DAILY DREAMKU

CALENDAR READING*

prairie calendar
black and white horses in front
of a grand oak tree

auspicious
for difficult meetings
any month's sixth day

*Those familiar with the Tarot might see The Chariot (VII) in the first dreamku of this pair, and The Lovers (VI) in the second.

By the way, if you comment about a specific dreamku or series, please copy that dreamku or title into your comment or email, as this post changes daily and I sometimes can't tell which one is being referred to. Thanks! All of my DAILY DREAMKU posted in a month, appear after the end of that month in one post on this blog.

[See other sorts of recent posts below. Not all works posted here are dream-based. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams.]

NOTE AS OF MARCH 13, 2008: I have finally started the promised yahoo group for dreamku. Here's the link to the very brief introduction, where you can join us as we explore dreams and this small but powerful new poetry form: DREAMJIN: A Group for Dreamku, Haiku-Like Dream Poems.

Links to a my three-part post "A DREAMKU PRIMER: Writing Haiku-Like Poems About Your Night Dreams": PART ONE: Introduction & Writing Dreamku as DreamWork; PART TWO: Elements of the Haiku Form Used in Dreamku; and PART THREE: How to Write Dreamku (the second and third parts have some overlap). If you try your hand at or have already written dreamku, please feel free to post some in a comment or email them to me (under "View My Complete Profile" in the sidebar) or join DREAMJIN (see above).

N.B. I offer all of my work on this blog -- poetry, prose or art -- simply as explorations. Also, in working with this blog I have realized I am essentially telling the story of my life. In a jig-saw puzzle form, piece by piece. I hope you get something from whatever pieces of the picture you view.

P.S. If you see any typos anywhere on this site, I'd love it if you'd email me or leave a comment telling me what and where. I recently found some typos in older posts (despite all the proofing I do) and it was a bit like having been out in public grinning and then finding I had spinach in my teeth!

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN MAY 2008

Though this month of dreams started off with a nightmare – very rare for me – overall it seems to have been fairly positive. I wrote a dream haibun about that nightmare, but it’s not below. I will briefly say that I am very grateful for that nightmare because it made me aware of feelings I was having I didn’t know about, that I really needed to be cognizant of.

You’ll note I’ve been writing more dream tanka, and even mixing dream tanka and dreamku together in a series. I’m liking the tanka form the more I try writing in it and learn about it. For one thing, the tanka form has just enough space for the image lover in me to at least vaguely develop an image, if one suggests itself as I write about a dream. For instance in the dream tanka following, I began to have the feeling of black panthers as I wrote. When I checked in again with my sense/memory of the dream -- the dream was still very "warm" as I was writing in the wee hours, fresh from waking from it -- a panther image seemed entirely consistent with the dream at a feeling level:

BLACK LEATHER GANG

The black leather gang
pads up my apartment stairs.
Sleek, like young panthers,
they set my heart to racing
with the thrill of hope’s bright bite.

That last line could very well describe my experience of this month, both waking and dreaming.

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN APRIL 2008

Image: The Justice card in The Circle of Life Tarot

What a month! And I think that this is reflected in the mix of dreamku and dream tanka below. One project: I’ve begun more directly working again at getting into better shape. I’ve been taking long (for me) walks almost every day. My goal is to reach the beach overlook, which is seven blocks down Camino del Pescadero, each way. I know I’ll get a (non dream) haiku out of that street name someday. I “catch” haiku toward the end of almost every walk. :-)

This is my favorite dreamku from this month:

I want more sweet cake
and go into her kitchen
cooked carrots glow

In retrospect, I can see it was what is called a “prodromal” dream – one that tells us something very immediate about our body health/condition – as within another day I had a bout with a very upset digestive system. At the time of the dream I took it as clear support for my desire to eat better, but did not catch the warning that the recent intensified sugar binging really needed to be curbed, or else.

April was also the first full month for DREAMJIN, the Yahoo group I started in March for dreamku. What a delight to be able to share and discuss dreamku (and tanka, and haibun...). For most of the more than two years that I’ve been developing the dreamku form, I’ve been doing it alone. It’s a big and wonderful change. You’ll note below two illustrations I did, one for a dreamku and the other for a tanka. A discussion of mandalas, that came out of a member's dream, led me to experiment with using a dreamku as/in a mandala. I'm going to work further with this, but see my first attempt under April 22 below. The DREAMJIN group is proving to be a great place for us to share these sorts of efforts, too.

PREHISTORIC FLASH: Dreamku Series by Vera Charline Wareham

PREHISTORIC FLASH

I shrink to bird size
lizards and fowls small as fleas
beneath cypress roots

dinosaurs were huge
compared to us now
we were larger then

now we are to birds
as we were to dinosaurs
largest predators

calcium layers
lie as man's prehistoric bones
earth strata

our skeletons
mix with our banquet of prey
proof too big to see

Charline has been writing dreamku for some time and has joined the DREAMJIN (for dreamku) Yahoo group I recently started. She posted this wonderful series a few days ago and I share it here with her permission.

Charline has posted two of her other dreamku series to her blog, Patchwork Faces of the Moon. There is also a colorful variety of modern haiga using her own photos and writing, that you might enjoy commenting on.

The above image is the April 15, 2008 Daily Mandala by Henry Reed, and is used by permission. I suggest visiting and checking out the wide variety of stunning mandalas on his blog.

DREAMKU: Response to One Single Impression Prompt of 4/7/08

the pawned figurine
of a woman and kestrel
shelved soul

The prompt this week at ONE SINGLE IMPRESSION is "stranded." I’ve sometimes thought there’s nothing more stranded-looking than items gathering dust on a pawn shop shelf. You can visit One Single Impression to read others' responses to this prompt (that I found a bit challenging, which is always enjoyable).

The above is a dreamku, a haiku-like poetry form for writing about our night dreams. The image above was painted by Katy Kianush, Copyright © 2003, Art Arena and the bird is a kestrel (small hawk, often used by ladies in "olden times" when hunting).

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN MARCH 2008

Since I’ve finally started the dreamku Yahoo group (DREAMJIN) that I’ve been threatening to, I’ve been even more focused on dreamku than usual. I’m learning from my fellow group members' work and from their comments, and enjoying it immensely. It all leads me to look at these ‘ku below with somewhat newer eyes. This is, hopefully, all to the good. But I then wonder what I can say about them without going on, ad nauseum. :-D Well, I can say my favorite is this one (actually the ending one of a series, but it can stand alone):

they snub the poor crone
she stands tall at my urging
scarred thin beautiful

I feel something in myself stand tall with that crone when I read it. May we all receive and offer encouragement when it is needed.

Image above: My Taiga Tarot design for the Six of Swords, based on the same dream that produced the ending pair of dreamku for this month (March 31).

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN MARCH 2008

March 7, 2008

he says we have mail problems
I say hire females

March 8, 2008

he builds spiraling
chimes for me to play
a new scale to learn

March 9, 2008

I like him, but live with him? John McCain*

[*the actual presumed USA Republican presidential candidate; BTW haiku are sometimes written in one line, as are dreamku]

March 10, 2008

WHAT SHE WANTS

energized room
her large family waits
to hear her poetry

she sits before them
mumbling and looking down
puzzled listeners

risky business
I whisper "speak out and
hold your head high"

she sits silently,
safe for once in their regard
true desire

March 11, 2008

DEED, OR DOER

the mobster
leaps around from bed to bed
immoral acts

the Cardinal
rings the room from bed to bed
religious lessons

the shape shifter
falls for the Cardinal
no real surprise

March 12, 2008

she fools herself
that she fits his parameters
easy way out

March 13, 2008

the walls keep being moved around dry...wet...dry

[Both haiku and dreamku are occasionally written in one line of approximately 10 or 11 syllables, and retaining the usual "kireji" (break).]

March 14, 2008

MEGAPHOR

though drawn to him
she rejects his advances
her friend's dark lover

to flee she changes
into a Goddess statue
broken open

tsunami's wake
we must wear sunscreen
in the hot spots

she embraces
his love at last
holocaust alliance

[The first dreamku in the series above was actually dreamed the night before the next three. As I recorded the last three I saw the first and knew it was the beginning.]

March 15, 2008

WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP....

missed train
a steward leads us in cars
to a downtown stop

the only one
not left behind in the rush
my strange vehicle

packed train
seated by me he flings his
head and arms around

the past
from which he dangles
abusive childhood

March 16, 2008

a house unfolds from
the broken little car
road trip with Dad

March 17, 2008

coulda lived better
coulda lived a whole lot worse
life is in the “is”

[I was chanting these lines in a dream. After some discussion on DREAMJIN as to whether this is truly a dreamku, I have decided it is more appropriately called a little poem. Though there are those who might even disagree with this as it really is more an aphorism. In any case, it teaches too clearly and evokes too little to be a dreamku. Funny thing is, as I have sat more with the memory of the dream I think I was actually trying to write a song in that dream. :-D]

March 18, 2008

A NIGHT OUT

I walk directly
through the gathering of snobs
gossip rolls off

a fat spy woman
runs when I shoot at her feet
rich part of town

they snub the poor crone
she stands tall at my urging
scarred thin beautiful

March 19, 2008

he demands I use
greater magic than I know
comic book hero

March 20, 2008

Brad Pitt and I
yearn toward each other
full auditorium

March 21, 2008

grabbed suddenly
from behind in my sleep
amorous shadow

March 22, 2008

WE MEET AGAIN

a past life's pull
our inappropriate kiss
on first meeting

I see how he cares
maybe I'll grow
to like him later

two long rows
of feathered white peace pipes
he bends to light one

pointing to the dome
hiding my heart
this teenage shaman

March 24, 2008

ACTING OUT

we differ on how
to perform the rescue
soap opera scene

I cover the window
in dripping mounds of fake snow
an actor grins through

my scene is down there
with the smiling young actress
snowed-in basement

March 25, 2008

BORROWING TROUBLE

I assure her
the loan will be okayed
stack of forms

her son's nephew dies
the obit
in her loan approval

March 26, 2008

slim floorboard gaps
expose the room below
guilt-ridden spying

March 27, 2008

alternating nights
of sex, death, sex, death
solitary days

March 28, 2008

William Shatner* and I
were once very good friends
Oh Captain, my Captain

[*William Shatner is the actor who played Captain Kirk in the classic Star Trek T.V. show. He has also been a recurring friendly visitor in my dreams over many years. The last line of the dreamku is a reference to the Walt Whitman poem of the same name. Though not in the dream, when writing the dreamku it surfaced as containing exactly the mourning tone of the dream.]

March 29, 2008

IN PASSING

my ex embraces
then lifts me carefully
long subway stairs

desire stirs
he leaves me on my feet
on the city sidewalk

March 30, 2008

TOO CLEVER BY A HALF

my costume so good no one
recognizes me

blue, blue, blue suede shoes
even dressed as half-man
half-woman I'm lonely

I sit outside between the wings
they bend

I insist we turn back
as we're so far from home

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN FEBRUARY 2008

So, here I am at my computer in my new home in California. It’s been an exhausting three weeks since getting here. But good, yes, definitely the right move at the right time. This old hermit is even enjoying meeting lots of interesting and very nice people (there are over 200 residents in this retirement community).

The dreamku covering the first ten days of February I had to post in one batch as I did not have computer access until the tenth and my record keeping was rather erratic. But after that, it was the usual one-a-day.

My only overall observation on seeing the entire month’s dreamku is that I made more comments and wrote many more dreamku series than usual. Seems my need to express is even more intense than usual. :-) Oh, and that last one: "haunted basement/the cat scrambles right back up/the wooden stairs," amused me even while dreaming it. I've been catching myself in lots of old emotional responses and absolutely refusing to indulge them. I was with that cat, all the way. Enough of haunted basements we don't even have to go in to. LOL!

Although I had the dream before I flew to CA, I certainly knew of the game and all the travellers that would be in the airport. [Note made February 20: I've survived my flight/move to California from New York city, and am now happily (and very exhaustedly) settling in. Lots of work and all my cartons have not even arrived yet. I've been writing dreamku, as you can see from the above. Fortunately, my computer system and scanner/printer survived the trip, too, and are up and running. But I don't have an ISP just yet, so am working at a public access computer in the retirement community where I live. Can't wait to get mine online, but am very grateful for this one just a short walk through the palm and flower-filled grounds to the library here.]

DREAMKU: Exploring Dreams Through Haiku-Like Poems (workshop presentation)

Below is an online workshop I presented at the PsiberDreaming & The Creative Arts Conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, September 23 through October 7, 2007. There were over 150 comments posted during this workshop, most with one, and many with several dreamku written during the conference. There were even two dream haiga (haiga are illustrated haiku). It was a tremendously rewarding experience for me to share the dreamku form and have it so fully received and responded to, and in such an immediate way. I look forward to continuing to explore and develop the dreamku form with others in a Yahoo group I will be starting soon.

You will notice the mention of the term "psi" below. The overall conference explored the more psychic elements of dreams, such as clairvoyance and telepathy.

DREAMKU: Exploring Dreams Through Haiku-Like Poems

[Illustration and dreamku by Patricia Kelly]

INTRODUCTION:

For several decades I’ve explored my dreams in lengthy journaling sessions, using the Tarot cards, and by writing free verse dream-based poems. About 20 years ago, I began writing in the haiku form; within a few years I was attempting to write haiku about my dreams. As I attempted to respect the haiku form while putting it to this uncommon use, I found insights to the source dreams would often occur spontaneously. This made me even more determined to develop a way of satisfactorily writing in the haiku form about my dreams. However, this was proving to be more of a challenge even than learning and applying the many subtleties of this small three-line Japanese poem. It eventually became apparent that I was faced with developing a new poetry form. And so “dreamku” was born: a very haiku-like poetry form through which we can open to the universe of wisdom and support available in our dreams, even as we creatively honor their often intriguing images.

By the way, there are haiku written about dreams by the Japanese masters and modern writers, and even a few of my own more “realistic” or subtle dreamku might qualify as haiku. This demonstrates the close kinship between the two forms. To read about how dreamku and haiku are alike and how they differ, see the link at the end of this workshop paper to my three-part blog post, A DREAMKU PRIMER.

PSI AND DREAMKU:

In my experience, it has been almost entirely the source dreams of any dreamku that exhibit psi. (For me that is a very occasional telepathic, empathic or clairvoyant dream.) However, I do imagine that when more people are writing and sharing dreamku there will be more psi incidents occurring around the writing and sharing of dreamku, especially if they are being shared on a regular basis. (E.g., a dreamku writing friend and I have on a few occasions produced remarkably similar dreamku during the same time period, though we've never met in person and live almost a continent apart. I recently emailed the same friend a dreamku, for the first time in a while, along with the funny source dream in which she appeared. She said my dream/dreamku pretty well reflected some changes she’d made recently in a writing project.) I look forward to seeing how and what kinds of psi elements pop-up as writers continue to write and share dreamku.

WHY WRITE DREAMKU:

Why write dreamku about our dreams? Personally, because I love writing poetry and I thoroughly enjoy using my dreams creatively within a very haiku-like form. But more importantly, during the writing of a dreamku there is frequently an insight into its source dream. As another dreamku writer says it can be “a quick way to the heart of a dream.”

DREAMKU AND DREAM INSIGHTS:

the huge tree extends
an intricate branch towards me
twilight

-- dreamku by Patricia Kelly

A fellow poet recently asked if I had any particular goal in mind with respect to my dreams when writing dreamku. I don't. In fact, my only hopeful expectation is to write a viable dreamku. The dream insights that come during the writing of dreamku are always a welcome gift.

In writing a dreamku, I'm occasionally working it around to reflect the understanding I already have of the source dream. But much more frequently, the writing process itself precipitates an understanding I'd not yet had of the dream. For example, in the following dreamku: arresting//she finally spears//the goat in the stream, when the line “arresting” occurred to me I realized the dream was saying I need to stop destructive actions toward myself. (I'm a Capricorn, my Sun sign in astrology which is often symbolized by a fish-tailed goat. It was the goat being destructive and the dream “I” that speared it.)

In this dreamku: she disconnects//the melting plug//chilling, when the word “chilling” popped into my mind I associated it to “chill out” as in “calm down.” I realized that the extended state of hyper-emotionality I’d been in was doing me no good. And, of course, there’s that “chilling” insight that I might be approaching emotional meltdown, along with the solution in the dream’s symbolism: pull the plug (stop the negativity).

Another time, I wrote these two lines: he fills the office//with showy orange blooms, but could not come up with a third. Then I realized the dream was about fear of gossip and envy (both in others and me), and the last line: whisperings, finally occurred to me. So here there was a sort of reciprocal relationship: the first two lines of the dreamku gave me an insight, and the dream insight produced the third line.

Simply put, in my experience dream insights are most likely to come when we pay attention to a dream without expectation. Be that in writing, drawing, meditating, journaling, going to The Tarot, dancing the dream, sharing it with a group, etc. And writing dreamku on an aspect of a dream is, at its best, paying attention to the dream without expectation.

However, any dream message, meaning, or insight that surfaces while writing a dreamku is a gift that need not be apparent to a reader in the resultant dreamku itself. (This is true whether the insight appeared before or during the writing.) In my own experience, I find consciously attempting to write a dream insight into a dreamku often sinks that little poem like a stone. Those dreamku of mine that do carry some dream insight usually carry only a suggestion of it and usually without my intending to include it. This is an important point about both dreamku and haiku: they are almost always best when they share a moment for the reader to experience, and then to draw their own conclusions if they wish. I.e., when they “show not tell.” The dreamku and haiku forms are about suggestion and evocation, more than teaching and telling.

SEVERAL DREAMKU:

Here are a few more dreamku for you to experience. Get inside them, try them on for size, see what they feel like, or what they suggest. If nothing in particular comes to you, I hope you enjoy the mystery. (Dreamku by others are used by permission.)

[Rhymes, especially end of line rhymes, can be distracting in such a small form and are rarely used in dreamku and haiku, but occasionally they work.]

TRY YOUR HAND AT A DREAMKU:

So, why not try your hand at dreamku. Those who start writing dreamku take to them readily. Most of the wonderful dreamku that have been shared with me were inspired just by reading some on my blog, before I even wrote a dreamku primer. Following are the most basic parameters and hints for writing in the dreamku form:

(1) Choose one image or section of a new or very recent dream on which to write a dreamku. (Newer dreams are more likely to precipitate dream insights in the writing process.) Usually the narrower your focus is within the dream, the better. Occasionally it is possible to encompass an entire dream, but usually only a very short one. You can always write additional dreamku on other elements of the dream later.

(2) Without taking time to interpret, associate, or relate deeply to the dream (but do, of course, immediately take notes on any insight that pops spontaneously) start describing the section of the dream you chose in the basic dreamku form of: (a) three lines, (b) with a total of no more than 17 syllables, and (c) if you like, in the traditional haiku form of 5/7/5 syllables.

(3) These three lines do not make one complete sentence. A dreamku, like a haiku, has two parts/elements. These elements are compared/contrasted (usually in an only implied way), or one of the two elements comes out of or results from the other. So the format is usually one sentence of two lines and a third either capping or starting line (often a partial sentence). (See sample dreamku above)

[Image: The Seven of Cups, in some decks called “Dream,” in the Rider/Waite/Smith Tarot]

(4) In choosing what part of a dream to write about I follow the tug of my interest or intuition. Once writing, I tend to enter an intuitive almost dream-like state of mind, choosing what to keep and what to let go (if anything) from the dream image, mostly based again on a gut feeling.

(5) Sometimes it can feel like a sacrifice to cut something from the dream image to fit it into the dreamku form. However, you can (a) leave the dreamku as it is, i.e. do not cut anything as some lovely gems do have flaws, or (b) make the sacrifice for the sake of “art” and maybe write another dreamku on a different aspect of the same dream.

(6) You might try writing a dreamku on a dream as soon as you wake from it. Re-entering the dream moment in an intuitive state is usually a lot quicker and the writing process even smoother closer to sleep and the source dream. I do this especially with very short dreams, sometimes letting the dreamku then serve as the dream record.

That’s more than enough for starters, give it a try. And have fun! This reminds me, humor and whimsy are most definitely welcome in dreamku and haiku. Who knows what your dreams may offer while you are busy writing about them.

CONCLUSION:

I happily look forward to writing, reading, and responding to inspiring dreamku during this conference. I’ll be around a lot, so don’t hesitate to leave comments and questions along with your dreamku, or email me.

I hope to start a dreamku group blog, to which those who sign up can post dreamku, and also leave comments and ask questions. Please email me if you want to be notified when this group blog is up and running. [Note of 2/18/08: I am now hoping to start a Yahoo dreamku group, rather than a blog, within a couple of weeks.] In any case, I’d love to hear about your experiences with dreamku.

You might also want to visit my dreams and poetry blog. It has a daily dreamku and a large archive of daily dreamku by month (see LINKS below). I will also continue to post about various aspects of and experiences with dreamku.

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN JANUARY 2008

So I’m just about toddling off to California. I pack up my computer early tomorrow morning for shipment on Thursday, all my “personal effects” get shipped Friday, and I fly out on Wednesday, February 6th. The above photo was taken of me not long before we moved from Florida to New York, so it seems the perfect one to post at this time of another big transition. What I find either amazing or disturbing -- depending on my mood LOL -- is that I really don’t feel any older in spirit now than I was in the above photo.

I really have no way to address the dreamku below except to say they do reflect the intensity and variety of memories and emotions raised by my move to California. I was, however, encouraged by the dreakmku posted for January 31 (I've posted a couple days ahead in order to complete the month of January):

the cat attacks the
top ceiling ladder-curtain
metal framework bared

I’ve tended to see top floor ceilings in houses as the direction of spirit. So the dream seems to be saying that no matter how attacked I may feel my spirit’s framework is quite solid. (Angry or attacking cats in my dreams generally represent guilty and/or envious feelings, my own or those of others.) Or, put another way, the connection to spirit is intact no matter the challenges. Hm....

DREAMKU: Response to One Deep Breath Prompt of 1/21/08

Art (traditionally named "Temperance") in The Via Tarot

she sees beneath
the ceramic surface
living clay

This week's prompt at One Deep Breath is "vision," which I immediately associated to an artist's vision. Especially to that statement attributed, I believe, to the sculptor Rodin when he was asked how he created his statutes: that he simply saw what was already in the marble and cut away anything that was not that. Then I thought of the image on the above Tarot card and that took me to an old dreamku of mine (dreamed and written April 2007) that I've posted with it. By the way, I do not limit my understanding of "artist" only to those who paint, sculpt, etc. I believe we are all artists, in one way or another. After all, we each create a unique life with what we are given.

"Dreamku" is a haiku-like form based on night dreams that I've been developing for some time now and that a few others are also now occasionally using. (You can check the home page of this dreams and poetry blog -- just below the DAILY DREAMKU -- for more information on dreamku. And should you be interested in the Yahoo dreamku group I will be forming once I've settled into my new home cross country in California in a few weeks, please leave a comment or email me.)

I also highly encourage you to check out One Deep Breath (link above) and read the comments to enjoy others' intriguing and always inspiring responses to the prompt.

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN DECEMBER 2007

Saturn's Rings

Before I comment on December's dreamku, I'd like to say that the month of dreamku for January 2008 may be posted a bit later than the first of February. I will probably have shipped my computer to my new home in California around the time I would normally post January's dreamku.

The month's worth below -- December 2007 -- is rather a mixed batch. LOL! I've said that before about a month’s dreamku when no theme or other sort of comment immediately occurs to me about them.

I do have to admit that I’m rather fond of the below pair from this month:

THE OTHER PILLAR

dark would be lover
he growls he's not her father
but a man named Seth

his passion transmutes her
into a wild woman
tight black leather

Lots of wishful thinking going on there, methinks! And that title? A reference to the dark pillar, headed up by the Sephirah called Binah on the Qabalist Tree of Life. “The energies present in Binah are linked to the Saturn-like influences in astrology. This Saturnian energy often invokes understanding, but only an understanding through patience and time of the hidden and unknown. Saturn's energy is demanding in what it asks of the individual, but it never asks for less than the individual is capable of giving. For this reason, Binah is often perceived as dark and black because all colors are hidden within black. The color black veils the divine glory until time and understanding reveal it. This sphere is the place to seek the understanding of situations that have been difficult and obscure. It is a place of answers, but not until the time is right.” (from Wisdomdoor) We're in the sign of Capricorn now which is ruled by Saturn, and I'm a Capricorn -- born January 4. That quote about Binah pretty much describes what this month has been for me: dark and difficult, but promising. And I’d say that mix is reflected in the dreamku below.

OF STAR TREK, ROBOTS & BUTTS (dreamku humor)

The Starship Enterprise, of the Star Trek T.V. show

I've so had it with all the fuss and bother involved in getting ready for my move to California the first week in February that I could plotz. So thought it was time for some silliness. Here's a few old dreamku of mine that might fit that bill. (For anyone not "in the know," William Shatner played Captain Kirk in Classic Star Trek.)

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN NOVEMBER 2007

Journal Cover Collage #5, by Patricia Kelly

I really have no obvious reason as I usually do to have the above image head up this month’s dreamku. I can only “justify” it based on my knowledge that the vast majority of the dreamku below are addressing my impending move cross country to California, at least in part. And that horses for me symbolize motion, the physical body, activity (among many other things). I feel like I’m calling on the spirit of work horses to help me accomplish all that I have to do to make this big transition. Horses like that golden Belgian on the right/middle. Strong, sturdy, broad-backed, patient .... That last is where I need a work horse’s example and inspiration the most. Patience has never been my strong suit.

The only theme I can see below is that of people relationships. Which is not surprising as I’ve been overwhelmed by memories, as I sort through virtually my entire life to see what I need or want to take with me, and what it is timely and best to let go of. This choosing to let go applies both literally and figuratively. And it is an intense and oftentimes sad process, but also very liberating.

ALL DAILY DREAMKU POSTED IN OCTOBER 2007

The Ace of Pentacles in The Tarot of the Cat People

Sheesh! What a month. I know I keep saying how busy and/or stressed out I am, but this month really took the cake. An on-line psiber dreaming conference at which I presented a workshop on dreamku that continued for a full two weeks, followed right away by a trip to California (Santa Barbara), and that followed by a trip way upstate New York (Saranac Lake). Both trips were to check out retirement residences (the first also was to visit a few dear friends).

Just the thought of pulling up the 23 years’ worth of roots I have in this apartment makes me nauseous, but it is time to do so. However, there are many other considerations and I’ve been worrying myself sick over everything. I’d love to put it all off, take in a short-term roommate and save more money, then move later. But I know it will only get harder to do so as I get even older. So my sense is to do it now if at all possible, no matter how objectively (and subjectively) hard it is. I see these considerations and struggles and hopes salted throughout the dreamku below.

My dreams this month also consistently supported my continuing to work toward moving, no matter how I was feeling. As did all the Tarot card readings I did. Without these two support systems I do not know if I’d still be pursuing the (waking) dream of moving.

ALL DAILY DREAMKU FOR AUGUST 2007

Black Madonna, Notre Dame des Neiges/Our Lady of the Snows

I don’t really know how to make any sort of sensible overview of this month’s dreamku. The past few month’s have been a mixed batch, but this month’s is even more so. Hm, as I typed that and was thinking of the Black Madonna above (see dreamku and note of 8/31 below), I realized the one constant thread through these is “mother.” Even when not overtly stated, some are referencing “mother issues.”
