SPINNING OUT (photomorph) & EVICTION (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

EVICTION

why's she evicting
me after all these year of sharing
this huge apartment?
haven't all our rough edges been rounded off,
friction barely more than light touches now

but maybe she doesn't enjoy living like
a couple of well-rounded people

accommodation may bore her to tears, and rolling
freely by each other may make her nauseous

not calm her (the way it does me)
into a ball of relief: I'm at home at last

[a tanka with three two-liners on a dream of 3-21-18. This one goes round and round with it's "meanings" (i.e., what I glean about its significance from associations and such). Mostly, though, it points out how very different people's responses are to the same situations/experiences. The eviction, though, is the major image and carries the most weight. And that's too much to go into here. Suffice it to say there are big changes afoot ... inside myself, if one sees each woman here as a part of me. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

WINTER BRANCHES (photomorph) & A FLEETING PAS DE TROIS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

A FLEETING PAS DE TROIS

the snow raises her long white
arms whose bones are trees

open ... alone
she waits for her two lovers:
the one who melts her
the other who receives her

her softening extensions upstage
even the beauty of the night sky,
where the sun will soon
enough rise while the earth
stands at the ready
to embrace her

she dances her great sorrow
and her great joy:
to love them both

and so she does not
choose between them but
lets these two lovers make
of her together
what they will,
as she reaches
and melts
and flows

[non-dream free verse poem, written 3-22-18. A friend sent me this link to a YouTube music video of "Spartacus & Phrygia's Adagio" in the ballet "Spartacus." He said when he was watching snow falling "with such intensity" from the trees against the brilliant setting sun that he could almost see this duet. And then he kinda, sorta challenged someone to explain why because he didn't understand himself. Well, I don't know why, but maybe this poem of mine above that started, um, flowing, if you will, as I watched the video of the duet, will answer him in some small way. BTW, this adagio/duet was just about the only part of the ballet Spartacus that I liked when I saw it years ago in its entirety. And not a small liking at all, as it brought me to tears. HER DNA THROWS A PARTY (photomorph) & GOOF BALL (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

GOOF BALL

that's it!
it's as if she's taken a
"goof ball"! remember that
term from the hippie days?
from what her aging memory
tells her of others' goof ball
trips, today's ubiquitous
opioids have nothing on
those barbiturates

she never
did try one, even in that
goof ball pill form, she thinks,
but this must be what they were
like, as she sits and feels a flood
of visceral joy in response to
a favorite old rock song
by The Doors,

even as she
sobs herself listless over
all that's lost, all that's gone,
that she never even made an
effort to experience or to
have ... or, worse
yet, to give

[non-dream free verse poem written 3-21-18. Not really happy with this poem (neither with its point of view nor with how it's written) but it's all I've got ready today. I might write something on a dream fragment I recall from last night, but don't know if I have the energy or will right now. Talk about listless! WRIGGLING FREE (photomorph) & STUCK IN THE MUD (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

STUCK IN THE MUD

they've shoved her into
mud up to her aching neck
she gives up wiggling
to get free; as she coughs out slush she
thinks: stranger things have happened,

maybe for once a mud bath she's been forced
into will turn out to be a cure for her joint pain

[a tanka with a capping two liner on a dream of 3-19-18. This made me a little sad on recall, given the folk who lost their lives in the January mudslides here in California, and also given that we're experiencing another rainstorm as I type this. But hopefully folk are better prepared this time: i.e., most living near the burn scar areas have evacuated. However, this dream also left me with a wee bit of personal hope that the "mud" I seem to be stuck in for some time now will turn out to be positive in some way. BTW, beyond the expression "stuck in the mud," I heavily associate this dream to "mud slinging." As I'm quite aware there's lots being slung at me -- behind my back -- these days. Developing a thicker skin to it all would result in a huge improvement in my inner life. Hell, my entire life, given how connected everything is. ON A WING AND A PRAYER (photomorph) & MISCELLANEOUS MAUNDERING (string of old dreamku) by Roswila

MISCELLANEOUS MAUNDERING
(string of old dreamku)

August 1, 2006

the pawned figurine
of a woman and kestrel
shelved soul

August 5, 2006

intuition fails her
at the dark crossroads
will dumb luck suffice

August 7, 2006

Captain Kirk uncovers
their duplicity

August 11, 2006

I finally fly
but get caught up in thorn trees
ouch! ouch-ouch!

August 14, 2006

sudden awareness
the wound on her leg
is someone else’s

August 16, 2006

she turns them all
against me
they were never mine

August 31, 2006

faithless companions
cartoon dogs morph
one into the other

[re-posting of several very old dreamku of mine (from 2006). Not sure what drew me to these, except their painful or negative tone does reflect where I'm at (have been at, on and off, for some time now). I'd gone in hunt of something to re-post today as I don't have any viable dream recall. Though it was a busy night and I do remember being buried in mud as a possible cure for what ails me. Hm, I might be able to do something with that mud image later. Photomorph "On A Wing And A Prayer" (4-24-10 10011v6b) by Roswila]

ABOUT DREAMKU (& PHOTOS):

But first, a request: please let me know of any typos or other sorts of blunders in my posts. As my eyes age I'm finding more mistakes are creeping into what I put up here no matter how many times I proof it all. Thanks for any help!

For more in-depth exploration of the dreamku form, and one post in which I also address my photo choices:

-- very brief comparison of dreamku and haiku: DREAMKU ARE NOT HAIKU

-- a brief post about both dreamku and my photos THE AREN'TS OF DREAMKU & ACCOMPANYING DIGITAL PHOTOS.

-- detailed three-part post about dreamku: "A DREAMKU PRIMER: Writing Haiku-Like Poems About Your Night Dreams": PART ONE: Introduction & Writing Dreamku as Dream Work; PART TWO: Elements of the Haiku Form Used in Dreamku; and PART THREE: How to Write Dreamku (the second and third parts have some overlap).

-- a short up-dating post about the three-part "A DREAMKU PRIMER" -- Important Up-date to A DREAMKU PRIMER....".

IN THE COMET'S WAKE (photomorph) & HIS PASSING LIGHT (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

HIS PASSING LIGHT

my deep affection
for him trails this newer one
for you like a comet's tail; no matter
the universes my heart blazes through,
he stays attached, burning and fading
out, burning and fading again like
the erratic light
he always
radiated;
this
unique
appendage
balancing
me like
a tree
monkey's
long tail
as I leap
or stumble
forward,
both
craving
and not
craving the
occasional
electric
shock
of his
passing
light

NIGHT'S CAULDRON (photomorph) & MAYBE I'LL JUST REWRITE ... (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

MAYBE I'LL JUST REWRITE...

maybe I'll just rewrite the lyrics to that
old song, 'cuz I truly don't "Wish I were
in Love Again*" I just want to yearn
to be in love again with a special
someone I don't have ... how much
easier that distance, than this "up
close and personal," easier to watch
a much craved man pass me by time
and again, and brush his shoulders
with imaginary hands, visualizing
my desire sinking into those squared
off bastions, to heat there like vague
sparks, maybe someday to ignite
a response...

but no, no, that's not what I'm yearning
for today ... well, to be more precise, not
that part at the end ... so, no response,
please, none at all ... let me be plain, I'm
yearning to return to that love land
in the mind, that imaginary castle,
that glass coffin, where someday,
someday my Prince will come ...

but not today, please, not today, don't arrive
with a glass slipper or rose in hand, just leave
me to bubble and froth away alone like an old,
over-full cauldron, to steam in the sweetness
of not having what I so yearn for, for what can't
be known and therefore can't disappoint either
or both of us, or create fear or regret, or backfire
and poison my sense of worthiness, but simply
taste of a hopeful brewing, as sweet as these
hot tears when I recall feeling
that way about you
