RECLAIMING THE SKY (photomorph) & THE FORGOTTEN CRONE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE FORGOTTEN CRONE
(on viewing a postcard from Ireland)

A blood red door
stands askew in the wall:
a rip in the stone sky
a wound frozen open.

A broom leans against the grey wall,
tilted toward the old black latch:
a forgotten crone who waits,
and as she waits, dreams,
and as she dreams, burns
the skies clean and brings stone
to life with a glance.

[non-dream free verse poem written in August of 1986. I have a dream I will write about later today. But it's so, shall I say, graphic I can't even imagine posting it here. Suffice it to say it has to do with claiming power back from men, in explicitly sexual imagery. Why I've chosen to (re-)post this particular old poem: the postcard was from a man I had a platonic relationship with but also had quite a "crush" on. And I'm surprised at the associations I had to its picture back then. About pain and power. Not so different from last's night's dream. However, last night I took back my power and sexuality. No waiting. Smile. Photomorph "Reclaiming the Sky" (2-12-16 001v8) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

FROM THE SHADOWS (photomorph) & SORRY TO HAVE TO SAY THIS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

SORRY TO HAVE TO SAY THIS

sorry to have to say this
and right to your face, man,
but this craving I have for you,
all this painful jonesing, really
has but little to do with you

it's about the moments when my life-
long loneliness sweeps in to fill
some essential, ancient void (yes,
funny, isn't it? that loneliness
can serve to fill us)

you see, my dear fellow, it's about
a deep human need for connection
gone awry, shrouded by expectations
that morph into a demand for connection
with a longed for other, here, now:
that this intense thrumming aliveness
(wearing the mask we label loneliness)
is not enough in
and of itself

well, my darling, my dear,
it is enough, more than enough

this yearning for connection is,
all by itself, rich with as many possibilities
as scintillate in every moment,
of whatever stripe:

the sun warms the backs of my hands
as I draft this poem, the lemony scent
of my sunscreen rises as a plane drones
lazily by overhead, and the little lizard
whose home territory I always disturb
when I arrive at this ocean overlook,
scuttles from the shadows of tangled
drought dry brush and pauses, as if to say
"ah, I figured it was just you..."

AFTER THE STORM (photomorph) & A COURSE IN CHAOS (multi-dream narrative) by Roswila

A COURSE IN CHAOS

"Disclaimer: one must not have any condition that results in dizziness to go on this ride. N.B., everyone (especially children on anti-vertigo medication) takes this ride at their own risks."

.... I start work for a top tier car saleswoman who drives her customers and me around dangerously fast. Later during off-hours and after a humongous storm has nearly flattened the city, I bump into her. She seems happy to see me, even though I look a mess. I explain I've been moonlighting doing plastering and repair work.

.... The light changes just as I get to the middle of the very wide city boulevard. I'm stuck here with traffic whizzing dangerously close by me, front and back, in opposite directions. I see my one time friend, Brenda,* is here, too. I haven't seen her in years and realize she's been hanging out with other women who'd turned their backs on me. I begin the struggle to accept her additional rejection and to let it go. It's rather more easy than usual as the storm's aftermath requires everyone's full attention and effort.

.... A man I really yearn for, and his buddies, seek shelter in a beach house hit hard by the storm. It's now not much more than a shell, filled with trash filled large boxes that once were rooms. The man I like says he'd rather camp outside and leaves for the back yard. I follow at a distance intending to at least say hello. As I approach him from behind I get all mushy inside but when he turns around I see it's not him after all. This youthful, dark haired stranger seems interested in me on sight. But I'm not up to taking any more risks and quickly turn away. A pile of storm debris off to my right on a small, grassy rise needs sorting and organizing for disposal. I apply myself to the task.

"Post-Ride Feedback: Leave your comments here; anonymous or not, we'd like to hear what your experience was and how you now feel about our carefully thought out and designed set-up for learning how to cope with various forms and intensities of chaos."

[narrative on several dreams of 8-22-16. This is pretty much how the dreams presented themselves. The only big change was splitting the first one so that it bookends the other dreams, casting it in a voice of command, and then titling the two pieces "Disclaimer" and "Post-Ride Feedback." *Brenda was a roommate of mine many years ago, whom I cared for in our apartment until just three months before she died of cancer. THAT'S THE BREAKS (photo) & PRAYER TO CHANGES (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO CHANGES

flashing an occasional array
of white diamonds across
their curving backs
the waves roll ceaselessly
each unfolding uniquely
from a distant ripple
into an intimate break

may these sporadic gems
and unpredictable breaks
never come to an end

for without them
what would life be
but a suspension
in emptiness

joyful!

TUNNELS (photomorph) & ACITHÉDUS (dream narrative) by Roswila

ACITHÉDUS

as secretary I have to produce
the letter giving the new group
joining with ours their official
invitation to the coming merger

but as usual I've not been given
all the information necessary
and I go in search of the bosses
who can help me fill it in

I need things like zip codes
and even, heavens, the name
of this new group that such
a fuss is being made over

I'm also aware (having read
the manual on this sort
of thing) that the underwater
approach must be mentioned,

that tunnel between our two
states (it's a legal thing, like
"full disclosure" I suppose)
and I need the right wording

upshot: (believe it or not) the last
info I need and get is the name
of the ballyhooed new group,
the odd sounding: Acithédus,

accented awkwardly on the third
syllable, the top boss laughing
and making inappropriate jokes
about it as he says it

doesn't anyone take their work
seriously anymore? is it all
just something to do carelessly
and then make jokes about?

[narrative on a dream of 8-20-16. Another dream about which I'll comment (as I said about yesterday's) "Don't ask me! I don't know." However, this one was no where near as much fun to dream and write about as "Dolly Says." BTW, that first syllable in Acithédus was said as in the word "acid."
