EVERYTHING FALLS DOWN (photo) & THE WEIGHT (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE WEIGHT

he says "just let whatever it is
fall ... let it all fall down ..."

yes, I think, yes, that's what I'll do,
I'll let this weight go, let all I've felt
for him fall down right around him,
scattering on the ground like loose
sheets of letterhead on which every
secret's been scribbled, each page
curling up like a closing hand
in the steamy heat
of his presence

[free verse poem on a dream of 3-7-18. This doesn't really capture the full story of the tiny dream fragment from which it comes. It was actually a vaguely lucid fragment, as I was aware I'd done some of the scribbling to try to make sure I'd remember the dream on waking. Yeah, kind of a challenge to get that down clearly and still be "poetic." So I went with the above version, that does hew to the deeper sense of the dream, and which I only got to by trying to write in that lucid aspect. LOL! ... the extent to which I'll go to try to claim anything of my dreams for writing, especially given how little I'm tending to remember these days. Though I've recalled a couple recently, who knows if it's a trend or not? Photo "Everything Falls Down" (6-4-17 039v3) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

BEYOND THE NET (photomorph) & INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAYS 2018 (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2018

dream one:

she leads a small
roomful of women in a
ball game I've never seen
played; it's rather fun, a sort of
volley ball-basketball blend with
other twists mixed in; I particularly
enjoy playing it as, for some reason,
my joints handle the running and
dribbling and throwing just fine;
so I'm a bit pissed when folk
begin to angrily accuse
her of making this game up as
she goes along; hell, all games are
made up! what do these females think?
that they spring full-formed from Zeus's
head, or fall from a tree in one fell swoop,
rules and all? and don't they get it? what
really matters is that we've been having
fun, and all while in a cooperative
group effort! how cool and
unusual is all that?

dream two:

that woman I simply
cannot abide but have chosen (for
reasons that feel quite prudent, given
her influence in our community) not to
create an open break with, is watching
as the food shopping she's had delivered
to her rooms is put away; I'm way late
for a performance I'm to do and also
very hungry (I've really messed
up: so much for my vaunted
organizational abilities);
I wait impatiently as the
delivery person puts the groceries
in her little fridge, even as I flinch at
each imagined second ticking on into
tardiness; I reach past the delivery person
for a small portion of finger food to keep
body and soul together, explaining my
rudeness, and thanking this woman
I can't stand: seems even those we
heartily dislike have stuff of
substance to offer
after all

[free verse poem on two separate dreams from the evening of International Women's Day, March 8, 2018. Both women were women presently in my life. These dreams are (as most) multi-layered. E.g., I also see men I know in each of the women here, not to mention various aspects of myself. It was such fun to wake and know I'd had two women-centered dreams on Women's Day... but mostly just to remember them, given my recent difficulty with dream recall! Photo

RED SKY AT MORNING (photomorph) & "the clouds hover low ..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

the clouds hover low
over the far distant islands
protection or threat

[haiku written 10-29-16, posted in November 2016, and re-posted today, 3-8-18. This is now the third time in recent days I've chosen a pic for a post, before determining the already posted poem it's to be paired with. All three times it's been largely due to no viable dream recall for the night before. But I think it's an order of proceeding I may try with a fresh dream poem some time, as well, and see how it goes. BTW, I do have some extremely vague recall from last night, of starting to write a poem about a dream as I was dreaming. Vaguely aware I was doing this (i.e., I was ever so slightly lucid at that point in the evening's dreams) in order to keep the dream from totally escaping me on waking. I may yet try to work that tiny bit of memory up into a dream poem of sorts. Photomorph "Red Sky at Morning" (10-18-17 009v2) by Roswila]

THE COBWEBS MELT AWAY (photomorph) & "large long-legged spider..." (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

large long-legged spider
why do you keep crawling
onto each blank page,
your black reach itself cursive
what are you trying to say?

I shoo you gently – it’s said that spiders bring luck

[a tanka and a monoku on a dream of 7-10-11 posted here many years ago and re-posted today, 3-6-18. I chose the photomorph of mine above first, then this really old dream poem to go with it. (This may be only the second time I've developed a daily post by choosing the pic first.) No viable dream recall (again) last night. It's really beginning to look like this is another loss I'm facing in old(er) age: that of detailed and steady dream memory. Ah, well, it's not like I don't write other sorts of poems. Or have a life bereft of other kinds of creative inspiration. I just am not all that good at embracing changes, especially ones that cut right to my sense of center, as an on-going loss of night dreams would. A VERY LIGHT TOUCH (photo) & IT'S BECOMING A HABIT (dream narrative) by Roswila

IT'S BECOMING A HABIT

it's becoming rather a habit, this taking chances;
well, to put it more accurately: taking considered
risks; then again, even after much careful thought
she used to reject any big risk and now she's
actually anxious to learn and try out that new
skill, so excited by the prospect she's telling that
man who's barely even an acquaintance, all about
it with much gusto and detail; he's always felt
vaguely familiar to her in their brief passings-
by, like those famous ships hailing each other
in the night, and that might be why she's taking
this tremendous risk and cuddling up next to him
on a bench, telling him about the singing classes
she's also going to be taking in addition to training
in that other new skill (all the while laughing to
herself over the question she tucks away for later
pondering: is this recent spate of risk-taking
just another form of adrenaline addiction?)
the man clearly welcomes this closeness but he's
involved with someone else and they both respect
the commitment he's made, and so this ease of
physical closeness must come from some other
affectional place; ah, yes, she suddenly realizes,
from that ancient yearning to be safely and
comfortably close with another adult human
for a time, no fear or threat of sexual heat
or violence or rejection, here
or in the offing

MIDNIGHT REVELATIONS (photomorph) & ON CARE TAKING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

ON CARE TAKING

that
look in your eyes --
tight and flat as if stretched
in front of wild things struggling to
escape -- I've seen it too many times
before in a man's unguarded glance:
some fresh, unwelcome realizations roil
behind those taut darknesses of which I
can only look at one at a time; but still, no
surprise, man, I've felt these storms coming,
warned by the all too delicate barometer in
the pit of my stomach, long before they
reached your eyes today; all that's left
is for you to speak your piece: I will
not pull it out of you, much less
voice it for you -- I have too
much work to do just to
take care of
myself
