MORPHANT MOON (photomorph) & FULL MOON BOQUET (non-dream haiku series) by Roswila

FULL MOON BOUQUET

the caged bird kisses his reflection full moon

* * * *

looking for space
to store the blankets
Moon When Ponies Shed

* * * *

my denim skirt
even looser
Moon of Making Fat

* * * *

a bare tree
against the full moon
more than enough joy

[1 monoku and 3 haiku, all about 15 years old. I woke up singing the song "Full Moon and Empty Arms" which is what made me think of the first 'ku. But as I went about selecting other moon 'kus I just could not stick with that sad mood. BTW, the second and third poems above reference American Indian names for the full moon under which they were written. And the moon is full today; Flower Moon being one American Indian name for it. (All of these 'kus of mine have appeared here before individually at various times, but many years ago.) Photomorph "Morphant Moon" (5-2-16 003v2g) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

IN THE EYE OF GOD (photomorph) & PRAYER TO SURRENDER (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO SURRENDER

take me all unaware to that leap
or I will not go, give me no chance
to think it through, to insist on belief
or that it make a certain sense
nor that faith arrive in the nick of time
to offer its buoyancy to the falling

for I fear this deepest of all leaps
can only be white-knuckled:
one cutting breath,
a bunching of every muscle,
then a letting go over
the vast echoing edge

nothing before, nothing behind,
held only by what cannot be known,
'til even being held blows away
in the wind of the leap

and there's not one blessèd thing left
but what will be

CLIMBING THE SKY (photo) & SEEN FROM AFAR (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SEEN FROM AFAR

a hot summer's afternoon by the lake:

children clamber up the extremely high
vertical wood panels on two sides
of the dark water (how do they find
toe- and finger-holds for even their small
digits along the seams of the panels?)

as soon as several dark haired imps reach
the top they start shoving resistant
cud-chewing cows over into the water
from the sweltering mesa that surrounds
the paneled lake, jumping after the bovines
into the embracing water

when the sun starts to set, the dripping
wet cows begin a slow amble up
the long spiraling path around the lake
behind the panels, back to the mesa

even as the children climb the panels again
out of the water (no rock climbers more
impressive than they) to leap silently
once more like thoughts suddenly released,
back into the waiting water
that equally silently closes over them

[free verse poem on a dream of 5-18-16. Don't ask me, dunnoh what this one's about. At least not fully yet. I do have some thoughts but have a feeling I should release them and see what happens. Photo "Climbing the Sky" (4-21-16 024v3) by Roswila]

LIFE ON THE GREAT ROUND (photomorph) & MERRY-GO-ROUND (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

MERRY-GO-ROUND

I wouldn't give a plug nickel
for even a lengthy round of rides
on that merry-go-round

all that endless circling past
the same old same old territory
while straining to grab the prize of yet
another golden ring just out of reach,
well, it's just too much for this old lady

and yet, and yet, the singing in the blood,
the bursts of laughter, the ageless light
that flashes, over and over,
out of the shadows
into the dizzying circling

and best, the beast between the legs,
moving smoothly up and down

ah, yes, the beast:
unicorn or lion,
leopard or rooster,

well worth an overflowing bucket
of plug nickels for even
one more breathless ride

THREE WISHES (photomorph) & INCUBUS (free verse poem tangential to a dream) by Roswila

INCUBUS

the genie's out of the bottle now,
it's too late to stuff him back
and toss him into the sea

and even if I could, why bother?
the two wishes he's already granted
cannot be reversed ... hm, maybe
that's how I should use the one wish
I have left: that this second wish
that tortures me with the unforeseen way
it was fulfilled should just vanish,
returning my life to where it was
before I wished it

no, no, any wish at all's a terrifying
proposition when the result of the last
one possesses me like a demon lover,
visiting me day and night, leaving me
exhausted and even more lonely
only to promptly rebound,
an incubus stirred up from the silt
deposited by the imaginings
and projections that rush
through me in such hot floods

yes, it definitely behooves me now
(that is, if my brain hasn't been melted
down by all this bottled up passion)
to keep that old expression in mind
like a flashing neon sign:
be careful what you wish for,
you just might get it

SEEDS OF DESIRE (photomorph) & HORNY (on a dream) by Roswila

HORNY

shaking her head my stepmother says, no, those long
thick bone growths on either side of your hips/waist
(that look like the curving arms of a captain's chair)
are nothing to worry about, totally harmless she says

well, she's not the one walking around with them,
having to angle sideways through doors and sit
only on armless chairs or benches, not to mention
they give others too much of a handle on me

research I do online suggests herbal applications
so I try the one most mentioned in holistic literature,
the name of which I forget when it doesn't work
and just sit there resting my elbows on these odd
bony horns, pondering this newest body problem

the next application I try, one suffused with peaches,
slowly but surely eliminates the left side arm/bone,
the right takes more work and an extra strength
mix of the sweet smelling peach preparation
but it, too, eventually vanishes

what a relief! and yet at the same time I miss
those handy bars on which to rest my tired arms,
arms achy from desire's urgent reaching out,
and, worse, the pain of coming up empty

LET'S PUT OUR HEADS TOGETHER (photo) & THE KEY (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE KEY

lazing behind their desks
in the office they try to talk her
into cooperating,
into to giving up the key she's hiding
as she claims no one has a right to it

that's just plain silly,
I think, because without that key
no one's able to get at the back log
of paper work that's theirs to do

it's also quite dumb
that they're sitting around being so
laid back about it,
so I plant myself squarely in front
of the woman and demand the key

"Give the key to me so I can have copies made,"
I say to her, clearly not brooking any disagreement

she gets very flustered and hands it over,
arguing it's not the way things should be done

I think, but don't bother to add as I walk off,
"It's actually a matter of priorities,

what matters more: how things should be done?
or, that what needs to be, does get done?"
