ON ICE (photomorph) & THE CHARADE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE CHARADE

that enemy of my erstwhile lover,
whom I've never cared
all that much for myself,
stands next to me naked;
just what's with all this sexual tension
between us
(and not only on his part)?
true it's a rather chilly sexuality
(to say the least, as I'm naked, too,
and famously cooler than anyone else);
and why
all this pretense of designing something
together, nigh on to sheaves of notes
and sketches scattered around
the nearly empty room
and in each
of our hands: whatever happened
to cutting to the chase?
or am I deluded again
and what appears to me to be
a charade is the only thing going down:
once again,
what I want won't be happening,
there's no hot sex
on the horizon,
only more
gelid teasing

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

EARTH AUTHOR (photomorph) & MIGRATION (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

MIGRATION

maybe
when the
geese
next cross
our skies
with their
lyric lines, my dreams will appear again in the sky
of sleep, not disappearing as soon as sounded like
the distant honking of the geese, but writing
their journey into memory once more,
leaving a trail that
can be measured and
followed by the upheld
pen on its instinctive
migration toward
poetry

[non-dream free verse poem written 3-2-18. Another complaint about my recent spate of poor dream recall. But at least it has a hopeful slant to it. :-) Photomorph "Earth Author" (5-27-17 019v2a) by Roswila]

IN THE FOREST OF MAGIC (photomorph) & "he demands I use ..." (dreamku pair) by Roswila

he demands I use
greater magic than I know
comic book hero

were the rest just ghosts?
no, his vanished gang was even
less substantial

[a pair of dreamku -- haiku-like dream-based form I developed and used to write in a lot. The first one was written in April of 2008 and the second just yesterday. I went through my oldest dreamku late last night for something to repost today. (They were handwritten in small spiral bound notebooks, so old now they're almost crumbling.) That first one above grabbed me for some reason I still don't quite get. Then that second dreamku simply popped up, brand new in my mind, in response to the first. It's heavily influenced by my recent decrease in dream recall. Something I hear can happen as we get further along in our senior years. Well, I'm hoping it's only a brief spate of very low recall. I've had them before over the years. But, of course, I wasn't 74 during those brief times of poor dream memory. So, only time will tell, or not, as the case may turn out to be. ABOUT DREAMKU (& PHOTOS):

But first, a request: please let me know of any typos or other sorts of blunders in my posts. As my eyes age I'm finding more mistakes are creeping into what I put up here no matter how many times I proof it all. Thanks for any help!

For more in-depth exploration of the dreamku form, and one post in which I also address my photo choices:

-- very brief comparison of dreamku and haiku: DREAMKU ARE NOT HAIKU

-- a brief post about both dreamku and my photos THE AREN'TS OF DREAMKU & ACCOMPANYING DIGITAL PHOTOS.

-- detailed three-part post about dreamku: "A DREAMKU PRIMER: Writing Haiku-Like Poems About Your Night Dreams": PART ONE: Introduction & Writing Dreamku as Dream Work; PART TWO: Elements of the Haiku Form Used in Dreamku; and PART THREE: How to Write Dreamku (the second and third parts have some overlap).

-- a short up-dating post about the three-part "A DREAMKU PRIMER" -- Important Up-date to A DREAMKU PRIMER....".

BLUE MOON RISING (photomorph) & A FULL MOON HAS NOTHING ON HER (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

A FULL MOON HAS NOTHING ON HER

she bellies the dark aside insisting
on returning as ever to that painfully
exaggerated place in her own mind,
too full again of herself, memory
managing to briefly assert that there
will be, as usual, a gradual deflation,
a settling back into slimmer and yet
slimmer gradations of that dreadful
bellying against the engulfing dark

[non-dream free verse poem written 2-28-18. Tomorrow's full moon (an American Indian name for which is Worm Moon) will be the first of two this month. BTW, it's the second full moon at the end of this month that's called a blue moon. Photomorph "Blue Moon Rising" (8-13-18 011v2b) by Roswila]

WELCOME MAT (photo/morph) & "on his lengthy leg wound..." (tanka on a dream) by Roswila

on his lengthy leg wound
a water moccasin beneath
a huge black leech
we pull the placid snake out
its stitching shines in the moonlight

[re-posting of a many year's old dream-based tanka. I think for the first time ever, I picked a photo/morph first. Then, since I have nothing new to post today, I went to my tanka file and picked a poem to go with it. BTW, I don't think I've ever "understood" this dream/tanka, but it's intensely and pleasingly evocative to me. Photo "Welcome Mat" (8-31-17 003v2e) by Roswila]

WHERE'D I DROP THAT PEN! (photomorph) & HOME OFFICE (non-dream haiku trio) by Roswila

HOME OFFICE

a crumpled blanket
tossed onto the recliner:
the room's warm at last

reaching for the goose-
neck lamp: which way to bend it
to shed the best light

empty plastic bag:
the desk's littered with papers
waiting for sorting

[non-dream haiku trio written 2-23-18. No great shakes, this trio. But I enjoyed writing them. Writing in general, but especially haiku, requires my being still and focused, states I don't achieve much these days by themselves, much less together. Which is a central reason why writing (and working on my pix) daily is so important to me. Photomorph "Where'd I Drop that Pen!" (8-13-17 016v2a) by Roswila]

AND JUST WHY DON'T YOU BELIEVE ME? (photomorph) & A FIRST STEP (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A FIRST STEP

it's not clear yet how the treatment's going:
the hospital staff's encouraged, though,
because he's had his first almost normal
bowel movement in more years than he
can remember

and now that his issues with elimination
seem to be on the mend, the doctors put
their heads together and begin
to research how to address the problem
he was admitted with: disabled assimilation

he sighs quietly, his head turned aside
into the overly fluffy pillow, barely tolerating
the bed rest they've prescribed as a first step
in his further healing:

go figure that accepting what's being offered
with care and thought from experience
would be even harder than rejecting
what's not wanted or, worse yet,
unfamiliar
