MIDNIGHT RAIN (photo) & A BAD RAIN FALLING (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A BAD RAIN FALLING

the first evidence she offers of his guilt?
that her tears actually hurt

I find this odd as don't all tears sting
when there's been an injury,
even if not a crime?

then she picks up bits of fuchsia glitter
that have fallen from his pockets,
declaring he could not have this metal
dust had he not been there, at that collage
class where this shiny stuff rained
down from the victim's arthritic fingers

here, too, I find her reasoning off,
like sour milk, or a sharp note
where a flat should be

but her gathering of proof goes on,
each bit another drop
in a very bad rain indeed

each further entrenching her belief
in his guilt, incapable as she is of seeing
that this mud slide of evidence
is of her own making
since it buries her as well

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

MOONFALL (photomorph) & THE THREE REALMS (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE THREE REALMS

in the realm of the feet
the slow march of a pair
of sneakers alternately
grounds pain and joy,
laces in bright neon colors
trailing in the breeze of motion

in the realm of the spider,
the delicate connector,
black and white sketches
and calligraphed poems
fill and refill
a spiral bound notebook

in the realm of the moon,
strands of yearning
toward beauty and darkness
fall from the spinning wheel
like raw silver wool

to wind through
the realm of the spider
who tip toes upon the earth
a belly full of silk

BONES OF CONTENTION (photomorph) & ON GENEROSITY (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

ON GENEROSITY

almost more a lecture hall now
than a restaurant, the discussion
spreads from table to table:

how far should one personally go
when helping those who are in need?

a young male friend of mine who's
fallen on very hard times suddenly
enters this large dining space,
it's not rocket science to figure I'll pay
for him to have dinner and drinks,
(I'd have done this anyway,
sans all the pointed staring
and whispering around us, percolating
up through the earlier question)

before the elderly man who started
the inquiry about how far one should go
when helping, can ask me (I see the question
sparking in his eyes, is he amused?
being friendly? or something else),
I declare openly to no one in particular
(though, I must admit, mostly to him):

I will be generous, I will always give
as far as possible, but I will no longer
let myself be manipulated or shamed
into being generous to a fault

there will be no more breaking
of my own bones
as I bend over backwards

ON THE HUNT (photo) & THE CHASE (tanka dream trio) by Roswila

THE CHASE

why's she chasing
after those planes in the sky?
yeah, her plane can
readily catch up and ground them,
but why remains the question

she made her feelings
known, at least they were to me,
if very subtly,
that there are other things she'd rather be about
than pinning down what flies around in the air

I just don't get it ...
but maybe I should stop chasing
after understanding
what people's real motives are: like her,
I have much better things to be doing

SHUFFLING SHADOWS (photo) & GAMES (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

GAMES

all this game playing!
but how much playing is actually
involved, I mutter,
as I suspect the decks have
always been carefully stacked

and all the gaming's
solitaire, day after day,
in this unfurnished
apartment, with blank white walls
and uncarpeted wood floors

we three old players
never even see each other
except when it's time
to switch the occupant
of the (so-called) living room,

where cards are laid out, hour after hour,
wins showing up to no excitement

today the other woman of our shifting trio
seems particularly perky and annoying

and the man of we three ancient gamesters
seems to have faded a bit more into the woodwork

sunlight glares in this room that has no shades,
just the unblinking stare of bare windows

while the shuffling of players goes on
like life size cards in a mind numbing game

NO EXIT (photomorph) & LIFE IN PRISON (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

LIFE IN PRISON

we're on a group tour
of a small island prison country
I'm particularly
curious about what their arts
are like but haven't seen any yet

there are no prison
cells, just hotel-like rooms in which
the inmates reside,
and in which each of we tourists
stay, the inmates crowded elsewhere

after my uneasy
one-night stay in a large suite/cell,
I'm running quite late
for the tour's departure on the next
leg of this quick prison island trip

I hurry to pack up
doing my best to leave things just
as I found them,
it's said some tourists fully clean
a messy room they've stayed in,

as I was told, "... in order to be generous,"
but I think its effect's just the opposite

after all, the prisoners have little choice about anything,
they can at least live in their own cell spaces as they will

but worse yet (a thought that gives me shivers) a disturbed
or cleaned cell's a reminder their space was invaded, again

[tanka series capped by two-liners on a dream of 12-20-15. On another topic altogether, I'd like to wish you all a HAPPY SOLSTICE. It may be the shortest day of the year. But beginning tomorrow the days will ever so gradually increase in length (even as we go deeper into winter). Which means my S.A.D. will also start easing gradually. THE DREAM CRUMBLES (photomorph) & A DREAM ABOUT PEANUT BUTTER (dream poem) by Roswila

A DREAM ABOUT PEANUT BUTTER

the dream's here in memory
but rather uninteresting
I really don't want another one
about food, even if it is
about peanut butter,
one of my food staples
and even if there seems to be
some sort of caution in it,
however, that's more to the point:
"some sort" is rather vague,
just an annoying, sticky residue
not even this attempt at a poem can wash off
