YIN/YANG (photo) & "recalling the willow..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

recalling the willow
as sadness overwhelms
there's beauty in tears

[haiku written 5-16-17. Photo "Yin/Yang" (5-16-17 017v2) by Roswila; until I posted this pic I'd forgotten I wrote the haiku on a sorrowing walk to the ocean, then on the way back took the above pic of this weeping willow, which is the one I'd recalled when writing the 'ku]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

SUMMER MOMENTS (photomorph) & THIS MOMENT (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THIS MOMENT

well, dummy, you keep thinking the deities
aren't answering your prayers for help?
yet, here they are, giving you the great gift
of new moment after new moment, and if
these aren't answers, what are? And if you
keep smothering these precious offerings
of beauty or pain, celebration or sorrow,
peace or agitation with suffering, or denial
altogether, whose fault is that? stop looking
these gift horses in their mouths; yes,
of course they have teeth and some will
bite sooner than take to the bit and bridle,
and some will simply run away wild; but,
whatever, honey, your prayers have been
answered and are still being responded to;
you just need to ride the horse of the moment
no matter how it bucks or paces, leaps or grazes;
and, yes, even if sometimes it passes into the next
moment like a kiss you've no time to return; but
the operative word there, my dear, is "passes,"
so know it while it's here, for this moment
won't come again

[non-dream free verse poem written 4-21-17. Photomorph "Summer Moments" (6-4-17 006v2g) by Roswila; you might want to click on this image to see the details; BTW, if it looks vaguely familiar it's because it's the same pic as yesterday here, and both yesterday and today on my photo blog ... my imagination sometimes gets very caught up in the shapes and shadows of a pic, and I wind up producing many versions of it]

BIRTH OF A GALAXY (photo) & WHY WON'T YOU MOVE ON (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

WHY WON'T YOU MOVE ON

why won't you move on and out
of my life? they may say that a watched
pot never boils, but we all know that's
not true so no matter how much you
fill me with your heat there should
come a time when you've simply
evaporated; even clouds move more
or less quickly by and out of sight;
and what about that day moon next
to that tall straight palm in the sunny
sky? even its distant face has moved
further from any perception of nearness
to the tree while I was scribbling down
these words; so, why not you? why do you
rise each morning like the sun and each
night like a densely starred constellation
I'll never be able to touch though my palms
and fingers weep with desire: even if I were
to stumble upon a time warp and swoop
through the night sky to centuries ago, I'll
still only meet up with the last cool light
you gave off; the warmth and solidity
of you no longer exists there, but some
place else, farther away, in some
time even longer ago

BAITED LURE (photo) & ONE THING PLEASE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

ONE THING PLEASE

I'd rather be played for a fool
by you than anyone else

so play me like a game of hearts
play me like a fiddle on fire
play me like a fish on the hook
but one thing please
don't ever play your line out
so far that it breaks

for I'd rather be played for a fool
by you than anyone else

[non-dream free verse poem written 6-5-17. Over the past few months I've become nigh on to addicted to (classic) Country Western music; it's influence can be heard in this little poem. Photo "Baited Lure" (5-16-17 025v2) by Roswila]

CURBED (photo) & HER FATE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

HER FATE

everything's thoroughly soggy and all the time,
but no surprise with her torrential tears,
given all that passes her by,
has always passed her by

one would think that her open wounds
and howling hunger would bring traffic
to a halt ... isn't there even a law* that they
have to stop when one steps up to the curb?

well, seems that's something else
leaving her in the dust and litter, the usual
doesn't apply: being passed by appears
to be her fate ... and of course they don't
even take note of the fraying, dripping wet
edges of this life long fight as they do ...

when does it become time to toss in the towel?

[non-dream free verse poem written 6-5-17. * Pedestrians do generally have the right of way at marked or unmarked street crossings here in California, and vehicles should slow to a stop, which (in my experience) with rare exception, they do. Another apology for another self-pitying poem. But, what the hell, I'm human. I just wish it were a better written poem. I've not been very happy with many of my recent efforts, either poetic or photographic. Photo "Curbed" (6-4-17 032v2) by Roswila]

FISHING FOR THE LIGHT (photomorph) & HOPING AGAINST HOPE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

HOPING AGAINST HOPE

yeah, I get it, you can stop nattering away at me;
all these traumas -- from childhood forward --
have broken me open wider to the world than many folk,
leaving my five senses almost always fully online and
operational (making me appear to some to be psychic;
no such, just all too aware) and I work harder to find
meaning in everything (hoping against hope that this
time I'll be greatly surprised and the meaning won't be
"danger"); but by my Goddess and stars and all the planets,
isn't there some other way to open a human to this profound
and scintillating existence, than pain? I have vague
memories of another way and to paraphrase
that old song: "Where is this thing
called love"?

[non-dream free verse poem written 6-4-17. Sorry for this one, it does feel a little bit self-pitying. But I'll leave it be since it is, if nothing else, a genuine inquiry. BTW, the actual song line/title is "What is this thing called love?" Photomorph "Fishing for the Light" (5-20-17 006v2) by Roswila]
