THE MOON (from The Taiga Tarot) & "the old woman ... " (old dreamku) by Roswila

the old woman
makes me “Sit over there!”
time out

[dream haiku, dreamed/written 8-11-06. Another from my review of ancient dream haiku of mine. My immediate reaction to re-discovering this one today was “Yeah, I really should be made to take a ‘time out’ like a fractious child!” I can blame most of my tantrum-like mood on the (Hunter’s) Full Moon that’s due in the day after tomorrow. As I’ve said here many, many times before, the three days to one week before a full moon make me a bit crazy (fangs, fur, and all). And I calm down gradually once the moon is actually full. (Or calm down as much as I ever get.) So, maybe this dream was right around a full moon … I just googled and, yep, it was almost 92% full on 8-11-06.

Image: Moon Card in my (looooong) in-progress Tarot deck, The Taiga Tarot (ttt2 folder XVIIIv.5b[4]) by Roswila. The text is a non-traditional tanka (small five-line poem). I thought myself rather clever to have that fifth line (on the right) reflect the words at the ends of the other four lines. Especially given that the moon shines by reflected light. But I don’t recall anyone back then when I designed and posted this card design getting it, or maybe no one liked it enough to comment. If you’re curious to see the designs with tankas for the Tarot that I’ve made so far, google for “The Taiga Tarot” blog.]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

¡SORPRESA! (photomorph) & "children leap out..." (old dreamku) by Roswila

children leap out
from piles of autumn leaves
we feign surprise

[dream haiku, written/dreamed July 2007, with a slight tweak today for this posting. Autumn here in South-Central CA hasn’t quite reached this pile up of leaves yet. But I’ve made a note to myself to check out the back gardens on our grounds in another week or two. The leaves back there should be a gorgeous red by then, both on and off the trees. BTW, this is another dreamku from that on-going review I’ve been doing of those old, hand-written, dream haiku notebooks of mine. Photomorph “ ¡Sorpresa! PUNCTUATION IN SEARCH OF MEANING (photomorph) & THE LENGTHY LETTER (dream) by Roswila

THE LENGTHY LETTER

she says, as she often does, “Let me know
if I can help…” with a soto voce “during this
hard time you’re having” trailing her
offer; well, sigh, ok, though I do not like
accepting help as I’m cussedly independent,
it would be nice not to have to fuss with
proof-reading this lengthy business letter
my brother’s written and printed, that has
somehow become my responsibility to
straighten out; so, I say “yes” and she goes
to work on it even before I can walk away;
I get caught up in watching what her
corrections are: dang it! I told her she needs
to be careful in making any notes of changes
on the letter as this is the original copy
that will be mailed; but she’s making many
large, dark scribbly notes in the margins;
ack! I’ll have to go to all the trouble now of
printing a clean copy on my fractious printer,
but first, I’m going to have to take over
the proofing and editing, especially with
regard to that central, huge paragraph that’s
filled with quotes and quotes within quotes:
she clearly hasn’t a clue how to punctuate
anything; damn! some help’s no help at
all! even more irritating, I really should
have learned after all these decades that if
one wants something done right, one has to
do it one’s self; and saddest of all? why
bother at all with going over and over,
tweaking and correcting this lengthy letter
that’s got to be long out of date by now:
my brother died six years ago

[dream of 10-8-19. There’s a lot in this dream relating to my current life. But central is that the brother in this dream is my actual (now six-year’s deceased) brother who also represents someone else in my life. When I got that, the deep sadness in this dream became understandable and clarified a current issue with which I’m struggling. BTW, all the editing/tweaking/proofing imagery comes right out of my on-going evening activity these days: working on those old dream haiku notebooks of mine that I’ve been posting from here. KISS MY BUTT (photomorph) & PAINS IN THE BUTT (two old dreamku) by Roswila

PAINS IN THE BUTT

she wants a bribe
to cover my butt
new cleaning lady

* * * *

whose butt is bigger
I both hope and fear I’ll win
this contest

[two dreamku, dreamed and written about in January 2007. These are from those ancient dream haiku notebooks of mine I’ve been reading through. The first, is exactly as it was written back then. The second, just slightly tweaked to fix the scanning of that second line. If you’d like, scroll down through previous posts for other dream haiku/dreamku I’ve re-posted here recently from those old notebooks. Photomorph “Kiss My Butt” (SS-many [2-5-19[7]) by Roswila. BTW, except where noted otherwise, the pix accompanying these re-posts of old dreamku are relatively new, if not actually worked on the day of posting.]

CHANGES (photo) & OF ROCKS AND SAND (old dreamku pair) by Roswila

OF ROCKS AND SAND

their dead are rocks
they bury in the sand
Resurrection Beach

grief numbs
she dances on the rocks to
reduce them to sand

[two dreamku written and dreamed in January 2007. More from my on-going review of old handwritten notebooks of my dreamku/dream haiku. I don’t recall if I posted these back then as a pair but they certainly work as such. I find it interesting how even the oldest I’m reading in these ancient notebooks (some source dreams go back to my childhood), call up a memory of the dream itself. Particularly these two, that raise a very clear mental image of the dream: I was standing/walking/dancing on a beach at night, at the end of and almost underneath an old wooden pier with lots of rocks and small boulders around, and I was barefoot. I’d actually planned to post a couple of funny ‘kus today that I re-discovered in this wandering through my haiku/dream history, but I’m in a deeply sad mood and this pair feels more fitting. THE DIGGER (photomorph) & THE OUBLIETTE (tweaked version of old mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE OUBLIETTE

the lid she puts on
the deepest family denial:
the Three of Pentacles*

she’s way too young to be so self-possessed, to sense
her life-long work will be to plumb this oubliette

[a dreamku and a two-liner on a dream of 2-12-11. *In the Tarot card deck, one can determine one's "family" of cards by one's astrology sign, birth-date, and numerology. My most basic card is the Three of Pentacles, the flag word for which is often said to be "Work." BTW, this poem is actually a re-working of an older version, posted in 2011. The two-liner above was originally a six-line tanka, which is incorrect, a tanka is normally only five. I also incorrectly used the word “prepossessed,” realizing as I tweaked this poem, that I must have meant “self-possessed.” In any case, this dream poem hit me hard when I stumbled across it, mistakes and all.
