ALL DAILY DREAMKU, TANKA & DIGITAL PIX Posted in November 2010, by Roswila

Well, I hesitate to say that things seem to be improving with respect to my moods. Been there, said that, too many times before. However, I find it hopeful that the last dream of this month (actually posted for December 1 so it doesn’t appear below) indicates this possible turn for the better, with some constructive warning that I have a lot of hard work ahead of me. It’s good to be reminded of this early on, or I might crash when the, um, shall I say "difficulty" hits the fan.

As I keep stressing, even as I complain, life is good here. I’m beginning to enjoy preparing for Chanuka/Kwanza/Yule/Solstice/Christmas/New Years. Hope you are too, whatever holiday of lights you celebrate this season. I just promised the plants in my room that it will only be three more weeks and they will start getting a bit more sunlight each day. They are in a sort of suspended state after much growth this summer and even into the early fall.

IT’S A LEAP

it’s a long way down
back into the room below
the only way: jump!

I’ve done it before
landing smoothly on my feet
but the floor’s crowded
there’s no clear spot to land in
and it seems so much further

isolated perch I prepare for the leap

OEDIPAL EDGE

he’s a svengali
she’s not aware of his creeping
control of my life

she reads the love poem
he wrote to her and somehow
this all becomes clear
I leave them both behind
feeling free at last and strong

she hurries after me
offering comfort and hugs
my deep hesitance

[Very busy night of dreams but no recall. It all just zipped by and when I woke I never got enough past groggy to remember to take notes. (I'd gone out to dinner with a friend and eaten way too much and too late in the evening. But it was worth it!) This photo represents a current hope that growth is in progress, reaching out. BABY STEPS

the special sale ends busy small store

her little daughter
completes her own receipt slip
correctly and quick
the baby elephant’s help
has made all the difference

BANKING ON IT

the website address
we give her is for a bank
sunlight on the sea

the six people from
the bank’s new ad surf right in
we point them out to her

though she’s their client
they’ll give us all make-overs
haircuts for starters

somehow I feel I can
trust the shaky old man to
cut my long hair
though I request not too much
be taken off in his zeal

much too much is gone
when I look in the mirror
but my waves now show
lifting strands, here and there,
I see the possibilities

late night in the barn
she’s anxious to care for
the new-born black foal
it gathers its many legs
beneath it and wanders off

she trails after it
relieved when it stops short
of leaving the barn
how many legs does it have
and who is it searching for

[two tanka on a dream of 11-5-10. Lots of stuff in this one! Mythologically the foal can be seen as Sleipnir, Odin’s eight-legged magical horse (click here for info). And then there’s my life-long love of horses, recently being revivified almost daily by working again with the book and deck “Way of the Horse.” (You can see some of the artist’s work here.) Then there is the contrast between this dream and the expressions “on one’s last legs” and “not a leg to stand on.” I also associated this many-legged foal to the “cat with nine lives.” For all my concern for the foal in this dream, it had strength, focus, and determination. It almost felt as if it didn’t want or need me, which is why I hung back and only followed it. Giving it its head, so to speak. Which on this writing, still feels like the best action: to just let the dream image do what it needs to with no further pestering from me. Image by Roswila]

WORDS AND MUSIC

filling the blue sky
over the Himalayas
Tibetan silk flags

they sway gracefully
in the golden mountain air
English poems shine
woven in colorful patterns:
Sonnets from the Portugese

a return visit
to the Himalayas
offers a different
display in the bright air:
huge ceramic singing bowls

equally awesome
but in a universal language
deep vibrations

[two dreamku and two tanka on a dream of 11-6-10. Here’s a link to info about Sonnets from the Portugese. (You can also google for the entire 44 sonnet collection.) And here is info on singing bowls, which now come made of crystal and ceramic. (I have a small brass one that I often play to center myself and the audience before I read my poetry.) To be brief, I think this dream is largely about the various types of love, in this case the personal and universal. To my mind they aren’t really different types, but different expressions thereof. Like sunlight seen through a slightly open curtain, or outdoors from a mountain top. Same light, different “portals.” I will even say the same for the Light that can be found within each living thing (and I might include objects, too). The Light may be less apparent, dressed up or filtered, or even obstructed, but it is there and comes from the same mysterious source. Sheesh! See what happens when I receive several surprise gifts in one day? Not the least of which being a wonderful brass figurine of Ganesh dancing. (See just under my profile on the right side of this page for my long-standing prayer to Ganesh.) It was a sunny day yesterday in many, many ways. Image: “Ganesh Trumpeting” by Roswila]

somehow I wind up
an announcer at the fair
out of the large crowd
a fellow exhibitor
asks why we’re giving this show

I think the answer’s
as obvious as the art
by handicapped folk
filling these sunny fairgrounds
and skip over the question

SEEN IN A FLASH

cards seen in a flash
blood red backs with a boy’s face
ordinary reverse
bears unintriguing symbols
on matte white

yet I want this deck
in my possession again
I’ve not forgotten
it was taken from me
before the hand played out

non-sequitur
food list touting sex as
a woman's cure all

[re-posting of a photo and dreamku posted on July 18, 2009. I'm having internet connection problems, so am working on one of our library's public computers. These computers have limited functions, such as not being able to load anything from a disk or other device to them. About all I can do is copy over the coding from an older post here on the blogger site. Anyway, I picked an old post that does reference an issue from last night's dreams. If this dream/ku were true, I'd be totally healthy -- I had some hot sex dreams last night. Image: "Marzipan Dreaming" by Roswila]

dead cell phone
what did I do
that turned it off

[photo and dreamku previously posted on 7-29-09. I still have no internet access, so have to work with the limited computers in our library (e.g., can't copy from a disk or flash drive). However, again I've chosen a post that reflects pretty much where I'm at and what I recall of last night's dreams. Image: "The Cycle of Life" by Roswila]

STARLESS

connections long gone
the past rumbles up through dreams
I try to fix it

daytime connections
both T.V. and internet
go the way of old friends
repair can’t mend relationships
and still hasn’t fixed the cable

free fall through the nets of life starless skies

[a dreamku, tanka, and monoku on dreams of 11-11-10 and daytime events of 11-9, 10, 11 and 12. Well, my intuition was “spot on.” The Cable internet (and now also Cable T.V.) problem has not been readily fixable. I wasn’t online this morning more than 10 minutes when both T.V. and internet died. Image by Roswila, from previous post of 8-16-09; I can’t put up any new photos as this public computer in our library doesn’t allow copying from disks or flash drives]

BOTTOM OF THE HEAP

at the bottom
I lie, accepting at last
heap of party folk

the long-limbed guy
on top of me gets frisky
is he for real

HAUNTED

inappropriate
and totally uninvited:
his leaning against
her from behind and brushing
then cupping her hip

others turn blind eyes her haunted footsteps

[No dream recall. But I have no doubt this photo reflects the mood for the night, given my mood now. Image: “The Fall” by Roswila; taken on the grounds of the retirement community I live in, right inside our front gate]

my soft surprise when
she helps me remember
a Beatles song words --
we sing together as we
watch the notes scroll through the air

pastel rapprochement
will it last or bleed away
along with daylight

[a tanka and a dreamku on a dream of 11-15-10. Image by Roswila; I’d like to excuse this photo mostly by saying another of my camera’s focus short comings is landscapes. This is true. However, I’ve not taken but a relative handful of landscapes and have a lot to learn -- especially about framing them. But I was delighted to at least catch this sunset’s colors reflected in the clouds. More ephemerality.]

[The only dream recall from last night is extremely vague and I'm disinclined to try to cobble together writing on any of it. I'll let this photo suffice. Image by Roswila]

EXPECTING

well, she is pregnant
the timing of this blessing’s
a bit problematic

they’ve just been offered
a chance to buy a spacious
home they can afford
they must move in right away
can she do it while expecting

“WHY” IS A CROOKED LETTER

why is she driving
and to the doctor’s, no less,
she doesn’t know how

and why is this guy
telling me about blood tests
that’s my doctor’s job

and why’s he slipping
that big bill beneath my door
I owe him nothing

and where the blazes
are my two good friends headed
this is not the way

“Anyone recall
‘It’s like herding cats?’” I grouse
caught in all their wakes

[dreamku series on a dream of 11-18-10. Image by Roswila]

November 20, 2010

OUTSOURCING

the cat’s in great pain
witness it’s loud yowling
they never do that

and note the pain’s source
it’s external to this limp
pitiful creature

proof’s in how it throws
up failing shield after shield
protective auras

from where and why such torture will the next shield hold

SUPERMARKET

well-lit supermarket
she flies happily along
above the stacked shelves
“Look,” she calls out to him
“I’m taller than you now!”

[tanka on a dream of 11-20-10. Image by Roswila]

November 23, 2010

LASTING

the last two horses
she could afford to raise
out to pasture

last of their line
this pair of old white horses
bright against the sky

NO DIFFERENCE

too short for braiding
but she tries to anyway
her wavy blonde hair

no difference she’ll still go unnoticed

November 24, 2010

PLEASE DON’T DISTURB

her small rose arbor
inside the white wood gate
fresh growth reaches out

I don’t disturb
the spider webs when dusting
off the new branches
she agrees that spiders
protect against other bugs

the reddish new leaves shafts of sunlight

PILLOW TALK

Dream 1:

cuff links and buttons
“I’ll do yours, if you’ll do mine....”
double entendre

Dream 2:

he pinches her butt
unoffended she laughs as
she says in her mind
“Think before entering
the evil saurian cave”

ARTFUL

our new apartment,
filled with clean white furniture,
needs decorating
I look again and am stunned
by my roommate’s fast work

art-filled walls I think of Paris in springtime

FACETS

my long estranged friend
cobbles together a barrette
bejeweled, intricate
it’s constructed of objects
that littered my bedroom

facets glitter will I wear it

CRUMBS

my brother and I
lost deep in the tangled wood
empty old cabin

no amenities,
no food or heat, but small beds
we each lie listless
hoping for rescuers
who may never find us

our father arrives
at last, and I can only think:
my namesake sister
back at home will be grateful
as he’ll ignore her again

SURPRISING

small dried tomatoes
on a curving wood skewer
a circle of treats
she points, asking doubtfully
“Are you actually eating them?”

the nice man and I
nod “Yes,” our mouths quite full
surprising sweetness

November 30, 2010

our friend’s awarded
a college scholarship
fortunately he’ll
attend a school near us
and not across country

in celebration
I order and gobble down
a hot fudge sundae
we applaud our friend’s arrival
I get a second sundae
