AT THE STAKE (photomorph) & THE CASE FOR BURNING AT THE STAKE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE CASE FOR BURNING AT THE STAKE

damn, how’s about just a taste, a dollop
of that passion I had for you, even though
it was unrequited it brought a bold energy
to my limping life … but, then again, maybe
I should be cautious how I poke at that time
(not so many years ago, yet it feels like that
proverbial eternity): do I really want its hot
cells running wild through my entire self
again, an odd sort of cancer that just kept
spreading? it took so much out of me (even
as it gave), demanding my nearly constant
attention like a toddler prone to tantrums if
ignored, not to mention the passage of even
more time in which to safely encapsulate
those molten feelings and thoughts away
from everyday life, still alive in a swirling
captivity but no longer interacting with the
rest of me, silent witnesses to the "not-you"
struggles as they come along; no, I don’t
want this tumor-like memory stash to spread
like a virulent dandelion’s progeny, painful
wishes and burning needs landing all over,
soft, insidious little gliders, to take root again
and overgrow and strangle all I’ve been
working on … no, I will hold these painful
if precious memories of you carefully deep,
encysted gently by my knowledge of what
life with them haunting my inner spaces once
more would ultimately cost me … and yet,
and yet, would what life I have left, lived on
such an incredible (if self-consuming) high,
be so horrid after all? like a witch going
gladly to the stake, embracing at last the
consequences of her life choices:
she’s always allowed the magic
to come home to her heart

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

HOW SHOULD THIS BE LOOKED AT? (photomorph) & RELATIVE PERCEPTION (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

RELATIVE PERCEPTION

it’s a very small car, even smaller than an old VW bug,
with all sorts of small objects in it along with their attendant
problems; it would be tempting to say then that the problems
are also small but so many, along with their related people,
are crowded into a tiny space making everything appear
huge (hm, is that a lesson in perception as based in
relativity … oh, my, and there’s a pun on an ultimate
aspect of this dream … but I digress); I worm my way
out of the jumble of objects and people in the little car and
head to the beach for a swim, hoping I don’t look too terrible
in this swimsuit, well, at least it’s a decently styled “onesie”
and the lazy eye of this late summer evening is casting
a gentle eye on everything; speaking of eyes, which eye
glasses am I wearing? the teal or the new white ones? and
should I be wearing any at all to go swimming? oh, no,
there goes my brand new pair of white frame glasses,
floating away on the wavering shine of reflected moonlight
… “oh, oh, oh, dad!” I say as I turn to him where he stands,
hip deep in the ocean’s edge, somewhat closer than I to my
slowly escaping milky white glasses, “… catch them for me,
please, hurry, now, before they’re gone!” he obliges and hands
them to me quickly, a soft, inexplicably sad smile lighting his
otherwise shadowy aspect; omigosh! now I have to choose which
pair of glasses to wear (seeing a silly mental image in my dream
mind’s eye of my face with both the blue and the white pair on);
I’m distantly aware of the wet sand sucking pleasurably around
my feet as I finally decide to have my perceptions framed by
plain white, like this page before I began all this scribbling

[free verse poem on a dream of 12-25-19. Intriguing Christmas gift from some other part of myself, ey? BTW, I have a very strong association of all the smallness at the beginning to the saying “Don’t sweat the small stuff…It’s all small stuff.”

MERRY CHRISTMAS! BLESSED SOLSTICE/YULE! HAPPY CHANUKAH! MERRY KWANZA! (did I forget anything?)

In case I don't make a post before Wednesday (Christmas) here's a new version (Photomorph/Screenshots 6, 10-21-19[83]) of an old pic of mine that puts me in mind of that holiday. But also others, as this time of year is filled with festivals of light. I hope whatever holiday you observe (or if you observe none at all) that this time of year brings you and yours health, happiness, and prosperity.
