ALCHEMY (photomorph) & "momentary lift ..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

momentary lift
to sorrow’s familiar weight:
cookies for breakfast!

[haiku written 1-17-19. Yeah, and they were Famous Amos! Photomorph “The Alchemist” (in 2012 folder or earlier) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

MATINS (Posted In Loving Memory of Inger)

This photo "Matins" (in a 2012 folder, or earlier) is shared in loving memory of a friend, Inger, who passed away just a few days ago. I will remember her for many things about her. But most of all how she'd challenge me laughingly to sing old songs with her if I could recall the lyrics. We'd do this singing after dinner, still at the table. Surprisingly, I never wondered how other diners and chatters felt about this soft but definite singing. And not one of our many rather outspoken, opinionated neighbors in this community ever objected. :-)

It's tremendously sad to lose her, but I am grateful she's out of pain.

ECHOES OF WINTER (photo) & "Not the winter ..." (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

Not the winter, but what haunts it.
Not the sterile egg, but the expectation.
Not the two thousand rocks in a cold garden,
but the wish for easy.

[free verse poem written prior to 2007. This is a re-post, but since it’s been 12 years I’d say it can be almost considered a first time post. And, sadly, it's as applicable today in my life as it was in 2007 and when I wrote it years earlier. "The more things change …" sigh. Photo “Echoes of Winter” (2012 or earlier) by Roswila]

STORM TOSSED (photo) & ARTHRITIS ARIA (non-dream mixed format poem) by Roswila

ARTHRITIS ARIA

it’s an aria
of sorts, all this popping and whining
and sharp notes of pain
it even scrambles up a rhythm
when I’m on a straight-ahead roll

now to find a way to convince this brain
to simply accept these break out arias

there’s no silencing the stars of this stage of life
might as well let them sing my old heart plumb out

[non-dream tanka capped by two 2-liners, written 1-14-19. Photo re-post “Storm Tossed” (in 2012 folder, or earlier) by Roswila]
