ENSORCELLED (photomorph) & GENERIC SPELL (non-dream scifaiku) by Roswila

GENERIC SPELL

eye of newt, bat's wing
desiccated and powdered
sprinkle liberally

[re-post of scifaiku (non-dream) to wish you all a Happy Halloween! The photo today is a selfie in my witch's hat taken last Halloween and just fudged with today. I must admit that I much prefer spells to cameras (smile). Though taking selfies can be rather, um, engaging once one gets going with them. Photomorph "Ensorcelled" (11-1-14 009v4b) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

RISE & FALL (photomorph) & NOTHING CAN LAST (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

NOTHING CAN LAST

looking much like
a young adult version of myself,
she packs up her things
it's clear on even a casual view
she's in more than emotional pain

she lifts her pale
hands to either side of her throat,
again and again,
as if the warmth of touch will ease
the swellings starting to show there

I want very much
to offer her the hands on healing
technique of Reiki*
but sense almost telepathically that
she's bent on taking care of herself

then as if in a space warp, she invites my touch,
and I see, over and over, her quick healing

for each time the black hole of time spits up
an image of her out of pain, it snaps her back down

and I must reach out to lay my hands softly
on her smooth young neck yet one more time

a small price to pay to see her at ease for once (and twice,
and three times ...) given that nothing can last forever

[tanka series capped by two-liner series on a dream of 10-29-15. *Reiki This link is quite positive about Reiki, many others are not. I've been both a recipient and practitioner of it in the past and have found it comforting. Though think that may be about all it has to offer: the comfort of gentle human touch. FADED MEMORIES (photomorph) & QUERY (dream tanka pair) by Roswila

QUERY

I held my forgetting
gracefully in last night's dream,
and not really that,
just taking it as the natural
tendency of aging brains

the waking query?
of what did that dream woman
have to remind me,
and where's my acceptance
of growing more forgetful?

MORE SPACE FOR THE LIGHT (photo) & GIFT HORSES (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

GIFT HORSES

today's dream question:
dare I trust all they're doing
to give me some space?
no doubt it's really going on,
but what are their motives

I can see the wet
carpet where he showered
on the stair landing
to respect my need for ready
access to the bathroom

and these newly washed
colorful linens she left for me
when she moved out
of my bedroom to stay
way down at the long hall's end

all of this and more
they've done to accommodate
my expressed wish
for more space, while being sensitive
to my unspoken need for privacy

why worry what motivations they might be hiding?
after all, one shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth

BOWING TO THE INEVITABLE (photomorph) & ON FAILING (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

ON FAILING

the question today
about a fresh dream, well, really
there are two questions:
why are we back on a job,
and our ages so inaccurate?

he's left retirement,
though older than Methuselah,
and he's still the boss,
while I'm younger than I've ever
been when working as a temp

third question alert!
why does he give met yet another
nearly impossible
task to complete, just like he
always did, back in the day

it doesn't make me
feel any better when he adds
"You know, if you'd failed
even once, I'd not give you this sort
of chore anymore" and he totters away

talk about blaming the victim! yet I still
can't even dream of allowing for failure

[four tanka capped by a two-liner on a dream of 10-26-15. Yep, I'm having a hard time with the sort of "failure" we face as we get older and older. E.g., I've been staring getting help with housecleaning in the face for some time, and still refusing to. This piece could as readily have been titled "On Pride." What a pair I am (yes, I mean that) in this dream. The demanding, blaming old boss, and the one who insists she's younger and more capable than she is. BTW, the comment in the next to last stanza was first made to me by an actual boss many, many years ago. Though I did not recall this as I was dreaming. FALL REFLECTIONS (photo) & ANOTHER INQUIRY (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

ANOTHER INQUIRY

seems the new focus
of reacting to my dreams
with a question
is taking root -- today's inquiry?
why are things so often opposite

this one's quite common:
someone I can't stand is an odd
best friend in a dream
or, as last night, I'm actually cold
and I dream of being too warm

and don't give me that old saw that our sleeping
journeys often serve a compensatory function

whether a friend I don't really like, or being hot
instead of cold, I'm still not at all at ease ...

ah, maybe that's the point: no matter what goes on,
the real problem is insistence on being comfortable

FACADE (photomorph) & WITH OR WITHOUT (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

WITH OR WITHOUT

why's she in this dream?
we've long been over as friends ...
seems questions are my
response these days to my nightly
wandering, or rather, wondering

or maybe I'm just
being deliberately dense,
you know, denying ...
anyway, she's here and what's more
I requested her for the position

stranger and stranger,
ey? and she's doing a better job
than I ever could,
especially given the boss
she has, cuttingly exacting

I start to envy her emotional distance from him:
she doesn't let him ruffle her in the slightest

but then again, does she even feel his sharp edges,
a deep oblivion can sometimes serve survival

I'd best watch what I envy, who knows what she
lives with -- or without -- in her deep inner world
