CLEANING DAY (photomorph) & "new house program ..." (scifaiku) by Roswila

[scifaiku written/posted 1/12/06, slight tweak made today. “Scifaiku” = a haiku-like form with a sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or cosmological theme. Used to write a great deal of them years back. In fact, a Yahoo scifaiku group was where I spent a lot of time back in the 1990’s when I got my first internet connected computer. (And I credit a couple of its members with helping me learn more about writing haiku, especially when I first came to the scifaiku group.) BTW, I chose this one out of the huge file I have of my scifaiku as I’m in the midst of a struggle to get my rooms straightened out and thoroughly cleaned up. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a “house program” to do that cleaning?

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

STRUGGLING TO GET A GRIP (photomorph) & "elevator free fall..." (dream haiku) by Roswila

elevator free fall
limbs straight out I jam myself

[dream haiku, dreamed/written/posted January 2007. Kinda, sorta reminds me of the anxiety this Covid19 pandemic is generating. I work at staying on an even keel but it’s quite a chore. Other than the spread of the virus itself, what makes me craziest is all the conflicting (and often just plain mis-) information coming at us 24/7. Today’s (re)post is from those same ancient, handwritten notebooks of my dream haiku that I’ve been reviewing for some time now. THE CHERRY WOOD (photomorph) & "her tee shirt pocket ..." (dream haiku) by Roswila

[dream haiku written/posted 9-30-06, about an even older dream. I had some sort of vaguely romantic encounter in my dreams last night. But not enough recall to write anything about it. So, when I came across this really old dream haiku just now, it seemed the right post for today in lieu of the lost dream(s) of last night.
😊 BTW, this one is from that on-going, glacially slow review I’m completing of my ancient, handwritten dream haiku notebooks. Also, I slightly tweaked today's dream haiku to clarify the scene. Photomorph “The Cherry Wood” (1-25-19[42][2]) by Roswila]

BUNDLES OF MOONLIGHT (photomorph) & "children in the surf..." (dream haiku) by Roswila

[dream haiku, dreamed/written/posted June 2008. Never did really grasp this dream. But have always liked its ambience, even though I can read what’s happening as a loss or as a birthing. The dream memory is like that picture that when you look at it one way, it’s of two people in profile, looking at each other. And seen another way, the pic is of a chalice-like cup. BTW, this dream haiku is from that review I’ve been slowly completing of my ancient, handwritten dream haiku notebooks. Photomorph “Bundles of Moonlight” (Screenshots 3 10-16-10[9][2]) by Roswila]

HONEY GLAZE (photo) & HONEY (dream tanka series) by Roswila

HONEY

setting up for bees …
again … it should seem rather odd
after all this time
but it doesn’t, and she hasn’t even
figured out why she wants to do so

ah, she thinks, as she
lets the bees loose, the old bird cage she
housed them in before
will suffice nicely -- they’ll fly right into
the lockable cage once the vine’s hung in it

she throws away a
lot of the old cutesy cage furniture to
focus on the vine,
that long leafy line that was strung inside
the cage, giving the bees their natural food

it’s quite a challenge
to get it hung properly again so it
will not only grow
lushly, but be accessible to the
hungry crowd of bees that will arrive

yep, who’s actually
the busier of the bees beginning to
buzz all around here?
she’d forgotten how much is involved
in keeping honey makers satisfied

[tanka series on a dream of 3-8-20. I’ve been incubating dreams (asking things of my dreams as I go to sleep) for several nights now and have not felt the response(s) to be all that helpful (or understandable in some instances). Though it took me quite a while to get at what this dream above is saying, it is a response to last night’s incubation request. A surprising one, that I initially misinterpreted to be about someone else. But it’s about me. Very simply put, a challenge to “sweeten up.” There’s much more to it than this, as bees are a multi-level symbol. However, it’s chock full just carrying that “sweeten up” message to cranky and getting more and more bitter, me.

NIGHT'S DISTILLATE (photo) & THE SEARCH FOR AN ALEMBIC (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE SEARCH FOR AN ALEMBIC

no, the point isn’t to get rid of her emotion
riddled, constantly morphing memories, no,
not at all; but rather to find an alembic large
and strong enough to bear their sticky
overblown weight, and once heat is applied,
watch the body charged emotions sink
heavily to its bottom half, while at the top
the misty shapes of memories float, as free
and clear as any distilled aromatic essence,
no longer freighted with the husks and
skeletons, nails, planks, and bricks forced
upon them at their very conception; the thing
then? don’t expose those fragile, clarified,
and easily manipulated memories to the
emotional body’s pummeling ravages
but bottle them safely away, like rare
essences on a perfumer’s closet shelves,
to which her rational mind
holds the only key

[non-dream free verse poem, being distilled for a couple weeks. I’ve kept editing this one, hoping I’d finally get it into presentable form. Many times, I’d then go to post it and see something else I really wanted to change or add or delete. And I’d be off on another heavy edit. Today I’ve reached the end of the line (or as far as the aromatic line of this piece I’ve been trailing after seems to be able to reach) and I’m posting it. But it still feels undone. Well, it’s not unusual that I’ve edited poems of mine that were many years old. So, maybe after it’s set here for a good length of time the inspiration will hit for the right edits, and I’ll wind up a bit more comfortable with it after fussing at it again. BTW, here’s a pic from Wikipedia of an alembic of a type similar to the kind I was seeing my mind while working on this poem.

Oh, I forgot to also mention that the initial inspiration for this poem came from a fascinating and strange old book I’m reading and have not yet finished: “Perfume,” by Patrick Suskind. Where I’m at in the story, the protagonist is now experimenting with consolidation (of a sort), as opposed to distillation (separating).
