PEACE WALK (photo) & THE REQUEST (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila
THE REQUEST
the straight beaked, dark brown bird
flies from the edge of the dry bird bath
at the center of the labyrinth,
to pause above my head
in the dangling branches of a tree
I sit beneath on my walker
just outside the labyrinth’s entrance:
the grackle-like bird makes this flight,
back and forth between bird bath
and weeping tree several times
in a row, its shadow casting a short
cut across the winding, dusty path
to and from the center, its sporadic
tweeting seeming to ask
“May I have some water, please?”
[non-dream free verse poem written 7-19-19. I did all sorts of googling to try to find out just exactly what kind of bird this was. But not one photo really matched my clear memory of it. E.g., the beak would be curved, or the color not a deep enough brown. Or it would be too small and round, or an iridescent black. In any event, this was a delightful experience. I drafted another poem (inspired by one of the designs painted on the rocks) that I’ll probably post here tomorrow. I’d hoped to be able to walk further than St. Michael’s labyrinth yesterday, but it was a hard day for me. If also a beautiful one that I greatly appreciated. BTW, this photo is an old one of mine of the labyrinth (6-28-16 021v2a “Peace Walk”), taken before the bird bath was put in the center.
There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
