WHEN HUNGRY HOUSES ATTACK (a sort of renku) by Patricia Kelly
WHEN HUNGRY HOUSES ATTACK
fingers caught
in snapping drawers
tasty tidbits
the carpet trips me
meat tenderized
the over stuffed chair
does not let go
appetizer
boiled by the shower
low calorie meal
midnight snack
yawning cabinet door
slams me
the house groans
it’s never enough

I wrote the above in April 2006, but my house's appetite is even greater these days. With all the sorting, moving around, cleaning, tossing, packing, etc. I'm doing it's been on the hunt constantly. It's seems to love particularly to snack on fingers and toes, with the occasional shin and tenderized skull tossed in for variety. Maybe it's filling up for the winter of its days once I've moved out and it will be empty for who knows how long? :-)
The form I wrote in above was inspired by the Japanese form, renku (or renga). It's definitely not a true renku, but resembles it in the alternating 3 and 2 lines. (See "Resource" below for information on renku/renga.)

‘til next time, keep dreaming,
