EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE (photomorph) & ONE POET'S NOT SO METAPHORICAL QUESTION (non-dream tanka) by Roswila

ONE POET'S NOT SO
METAPHORICAL QUESTION

the last denial:
death does not come to us all,
I'll live on always
for if I cannot imagine non-
being how can it ever happen?

[non-dream tanka written 5-5-18. Like yesterday's tanka, this one's been hanging around for a while. I've even considered scrapping it, and I'm only posting it today because I have nothing else I'd rather. The question is an actual one I came up against in myself and quickly dismissed. But then drafted this tanka about it. It's point puts me in mind of that saying (I've forgotten who said it, was it Carl Sandburg?): Nothing happens unless first a dream. However, I do recognize there's much more to existence than the human mind and it's graspings. At least I think (:-D) I do! Photomorph "Every Which Way But Loose" (12-24-13 010v4a) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

MOTHERBOARD MELTDOWN (photomorph) & BY MORNING'S LIGHT (non-dream tanka) by Roswila

BY MORNING'S LIGHT

painful joints yelp "no"
to dust devils teasing from beneath
the bed and each chair
but bend to the chase anyway,
popping like electronic dance music

[non-dream tanka written 5-14-18. Have had this one on the back burner for just such a day. I.e., I have zilch dream recall from last night's dreams and don't feel like re-posting some really old piece. It's also highly appropriate given all the "popping" my poor joints have been doing as I get on with my current on-going project of deep cleaning and re-organizing my rooms. It's fortunate I've learned from long experience that exercise ultimately helps joint pain (once I've sat for a while after a long haul of challenging physical activity). FACING DOWN THE NIGHT (photomorph) & THE EXCUSE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE EXCUSE

she gets right up in my face,
this, always and ever, pain-
in-my-butt young
woman ...
"You weren't there!" she yelps,
for all the world like a spoiled
puppy seeking a teat on its
mother's litter crowded
belly ...
thing is, I was there, as I'm often
"there," but it's as if -- no matter
should I try not to -- I stand right
in her blind spot whenever something
particularly important to her is
happening ...
truth be told, I know she
doesn't even want me to be
"there," wherever the "there"
of that moment happens to be,
so why do I keep
trying ...
and even more to the point,
why does she bother to get
up in my face about something
I know at a deep intuitive level,
she doesn't truly
want ...
ah, I get it, what she really wants
is to be overtly expressive about
her on-going anger at me: the one
who on occasion chooses not to be
her ersatz mother: not to supply
the teat and the closeness, and
worst, not to ever, ever not be
"there," ...
and so her blind spot steps up
and gives her the excuse

[free verse poem on a dream of 5-27-18. )] Blush! I think this young woman is really an aspect of myself I'd thought I'd outgrown. Ah well, better to know about "her" than not. Maybe we never fully leave behind some difficult aspects/habits. Photomorph "Facing Down the Night" (10-5-09 7296v2d) by Roswila]

SEEKING A FORM (photomorph) & FLATTENED ORIGAMI (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

FLATTENED ORIGAMI

poem after poem of his falls out of his
missive to me; it's way too much reading
and ruminating to deal with right now;
deceptive, isn't it, that a small envelope
would hold such a pile of carefully folded
pages of poems; as they rest in my lap
like a flock of flattened origami I wonder
what their forms will have to say once
I pry them open, how might they dance
or roll or sing when filled with space and
air again; I know that (as usual) he wants
my feedback on every single one, but just
like their hand addressed jacket the poems,
too, are deceptive; I know all too well from
past experience they will speak in ways I
can't respond totally honestly to, for their
intimate calls will be hidden within the
shadows of their poems' shapes -- hints and
double entendre his overriding style -- and
are always so vague that I begin to wonder
if I might very well simply be projecting

NODDING OUT (photo) & SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY

yeah, why should I be surprised
to find these two sleeping together?
hey, not in that way, I mean that
literally, as in snoring away,
in two separate beds in
the small bedroom

but I really can't stand having her
there now, too, after all these years
of dealing with him, even if I have
grown rather used to him haunting
me, sleeping quietly away
in the background ...

hm, I suppose snoring away is better
than him being fully active and I do
remember to shut that bedroom
door and keep it shut
most of the time

maybe it's not so awful that she's
there now, my two enemies sleeping
together ... I can slam that door or ease
it shut if they're already asleep
and walk away

so what if I live then in my own
kinda, sorta walking dream: peace
is peace, even if it's only an
absence of "in your face"
conflict

RELEASE (photo) & IT'S ODD (dream narrative) by Roswila

IT'S ODD

it's odd to turn to The President
for his support, any niggling
question about his appropriateness
lost beneath my plea; and what's more
strange is dreaming all this from a bit
of a distance, as if it were a movie
or T.V. show, me played by a striking,
young, blond, slim woman, barely out
of her teens, and Trump, well, pretty
much Trump minus the repugnant
attitudes and posturing I
usually see in him

he listens attentively, and with an
uncharacteristic openness, to my urgent
appeal for the release of that young man
I care so much for, to my insistence
that the man has done nothing wrong,
that it's a matter of prejudice, as so much
of what we humans accuse others of
tends to be

for a few suspended seconds I'm afraid
The President will make a pass at me,
but that doesn't seem to be on his mind
at all, as he ponders my petition;
it's quickly clear he agrees with me
though I'm not sure why and I'm
equally unsure as to whether he
really understands the issue at hand

and so I gather in even more courage
from who knows where and comment
in an almost offhand way so as not to
risk offending that ego of his that I
can feel perking quietly beneath his
dark suit: as you know, Mr. President,
people too often demonize
spiritual paths
not their own

The President smiles indulgently and
pats me on the back, ushering me gently
out of his presence, nicely enough but still
much as if the royal audience is over ...
OK by me, I think, at least my woman's
intuition says he really does agree with me
and now all that remains to be seen is
if he manifests it, or chooses a different
action that will get him something else
he wants more than to help a powerless
young activist and his equally powerless
pretty young thing

[narrative on a dream of 5-25-18. In actuality, I cannot abide our President. And as I said in the comments to another dream I had about him some time ago, he's definitely a shadow figure for me. However, I read this dream as being about how the abused child often grows into an adult who keeps seeking help and understanding from people much like their abusers (but not recognizing or rationalizing that resemblance). I could go on (and on) but won't. Suffice it to say this is a jam packed dream. I'll be chewing on it for some time. Just wish I didn't have to give Trump so much space in my head in order to do so. It's enough I have to tolerate him daily on the T.V. News. Photo "Release" 4-22-10 10010v2) by Roswila]
