ON THE HUNT (photomorph) & PAIRING UP (dream narrative) by Roswila

PAIRING UP

the participants in the competition
gather on the field of play, a large,
empty mall parking lot

they outnumber those who just watch
from a distance, cheering or even
jeering as they elbow each other

the only way any of the competitors
can manage physically to play
the game, is to team up, as the men
have no usable arms, and the women
have no working legs

so there's lots of rushing around
trying to pair up, male/female,
despite a dearth of guidelines
to clarify how to do so,
or even what the rules
for the competition are

and for all the necessity of this
frenetic pairing, it almost appears
forced, as if not really wanted
by these men and women

though there's one dark haired,
youngish man who stands out
of the crowd; if clearly in a bit
of a panic, still he's actively
seeking a woman -- which is odd
as it's usually the women
who handle the more active
aspects of the seeking

maybe since he won this competition
the last time it was held, he's
anxious to win it again and doesn't
want to leave anything to chance

[narrative on a dream of 10-19-17. It was a heavy dreaming night. This dream -- that I largely interpret as being about the intra-species game of sex -- came after a dream that I largely interpret as being about death. Photomorph "On the Hunt" (10-18-17 018v2g) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

NOON SPILLS OVER (photomorph) & "the tree's yellow..." (non-traditional, non-dream haiku) by Roswila

the tree's yellow leaves tremble
beside the palm's massive stillness,
as I, next to you

WHERE'D EVERYBODY GO? (photo) & WINDOW DRESSING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

WINDOW DRESSING

... the deep green bush colorfully lit
like a department store window
at holiday time, by a slew
of birds-of-paradise, each one
facing in a different direction
as if listening to a wind only it
can hear, yet each blossom
rooted in the same rich earth

[non-dream free verse poem written 10-17-17. I suppose I could find some relevance in this poem to the fact that today would have been my mother's birthday (she died when I was 10). But I'd rather just let the poem go out, unanalyzed. And remember that in my teens I stumbled across poems my mother had written and how that started me trying to write. I have a poem specifically about her (we called her "Mama") that I also drafted on today's walk. If it turns out at all decent, of course I'll post it here. Photo "Where'd Everybody Go?" LANGUAGE OF THE FERNS (photomorph) & HE INQUIRES (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

HE INQUIRES

he inquires very solicitously
about how to pronounce
my first name: Patricia

I tell him, grateful someone
has actually asked before
twisting it up when announcing
me to the audience

then when he's at the mike
he messes up worse than
anyone ever has, looking at me
as if for guidance

when I softly correct his
way too many syllabled way
of saying my three syllable
name, he gets huffy

when that huff sparks
a conflagration in me I lose it,
pronouncing my name loudly
and -- in the way I say it --
also revealing my anger

before the last syllable: "-shah"
is out of my mouth, though,
I'm feeling I've over-reacted,
yet one more time,
about one more thing ...

but, then again, when is it ever time
for me to say my piece? or maybe
that's just the point -- it's never time,
one has to seize the moment
for one's self
or never speak out at all

[free verse poem on a dream of 10-14-17. Another recent poem (dream based or not) that I'm not all that sure about. Though I'm not ever that sure about any poem of mine, I do tend to like others a bit more than I do this and some other recent posts. And the problem with these recent doubtful ones? Mostly with what they're trying to say. Have I gotten at their basic messages? (My poems lead me -- not me them -- once I really get into the writing.) Or at least, do the poems say enough to make for a satisfying read. Not sure in either way with this one. Photomorph "Language of the Ferns" (8-15-17 004v7) by Roswila]

DREAMING OF AUTUMN (photomorph) & "over the hill..." (non-dream tanka) by Roswila

over the hill:
a large, wind tossed tree signals
with flags of red leaves
yes, something in me whispers,
the last fall waits in the offing

[non-dream tanka written 10-15-17. Photomorph "Dreaming of Autumn" (9-15-17 005v5) by Roswila; I call this a photomorph because it was not only a day shot but a fully green leafed tree]
