DAY'S END (photomorph) & "friends in a garden..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

THE FOG LIFTS (photomorph) & A SIGHT FOR OLD EYES (non-dream mixed format poem) by Roswila

A SIGHT FOR OLD EYES

after running up
the long stairs from the beach
the shirtless buff
young man stops for a drink
from the park's fountain

he leans in slowly
toward the arc of sparkling water
as if for a first kiss

[non-dream (sort of) tanka with (sort of) haiku, written 10-21-16. Saw this guy on one of my recent walks to the ocean overlook park, which is where I took the source pic for today's photomorph "The Fog Lifts" (10-11-16 002v2b)]

CONNECTING UP (photomorph) & A LIFETIME OF MUSIC (free verse dream inspired poem) by Roswila

A LIFETIME OF MUSIC

all this singing out
from an abandoned soul
searching the world
for the mate
she's never had
this song bird whose breast
bursts with a lifetime
of music that falls
has always fallen
on deaf ears
yet
hope won't let her be
won't allow her to stop
serenading indifference
won't quit tugging the tunes
and lyrics out of her
day and night
waking and sleeping
like a silver fish hook
only to land them
in the spreading void
is it any wonder she's begun
to harbor a deep dislike
for this hope that keeps
her singing out even
as it slowly destroys her

[free verse poem taking off from a night of singing in my sleep [10-26-16]. I was mostly singing "The Skye Boat Song" [currently the theme song for the T.V. show "The Outlander"]. The last line of the lyrics is exactly where this poem is going: "and all that is me is gone." I also sang bits of another lovely old Scottish song "Wild Mountain Thyme" that always makes me want to cry. There'd been other songs earlier in my sleep last night that I was singing snatches from which I don't now recall. (AhHAH, as I typed that I recalled one of them was the country song "Today I Started Loving You Again.") But I do know they were all sad. Photomorph "Connecting Up" (3-27-10 8678v2) by Roswila]

GANESH EMERGES FROM THE SEA (photomorph) & "the sea flirts today..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

the sea flirts today
little lights wink from the waves
light hearted I love you's

[haiku written 10-18-16. I had the thought the day I wrote this 'ku that I'd be grateful to be reminded of the experience soon enough. Well, today's the day for that gratitude. My mood is sinking rather rapidly. Though I did have a lovely long walk (and for the first time with a friend) and took a lot of new pix on the way back. However, some emotional stuff still tends to cling. It's like constantly brushing masses of extra sticky cob webs away from one's face as one walks. LOL! That last sentence makes it really clear why I was drawn to post a Ganesh pic with this haiku. He's probably most known as The Remover of Obstacles. RECUMBENT GANESH (photo) & NIGHT CLASS (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

NIGHT CLASS

we can share my slim twin
bed for the nonce, I say,
but let's get another bed for you
soon and place it like we used
to have yours years ago
when we were roommates

at an angle, but on the same side
of the room? she questions,
while I lie comfortably with her
warm against my back,

knowing that in some ways
she sees right through me,
even if she doesn't
realize it,

wondering to myself,
why I'm doing this
all over again, didn't I
learn enough the first time
around? but clearly not,

I add silently, or we'd
not be here and I'd not be
staying open to whatever
lesson surfaces
through my sleep
this time

RAIN OF ASHES (photomorph) & "sunshine so bright..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

sun shine so bright
the shadows look burnt
ashes of a heart

AUTUMN HANGS ON (photo) & THE JENGA GAME (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE JENGA GAME

it's collapsed before, and here
you and I are restacking everything
yet another time as if playing a Jenga* game;
the crowning block this time, however,
stays put as do all the others on which it stands;
each block's solid, not about to fall; there's not even
a quiver as each piece locks into place at once
with a tiny wooden click, establishing a tower
of words that for once you quickly take seriously;
it's just too bad that their meaning is "GAME OVER"

I sigh and recall that like a couple of third rate
comedians, our timing's always been rotten

[free verse poem on a dream of 10-21-16. * Jenga game. Also, I'd worked on this dream poem before sleep last night. And although I don't recall any dream that was particularly relevant to this one, I did wake up singing Fleetwood Mac's song "Go Your Own Way". Photo "Autumn Hangs On" (10-20-16 002v3) by Roswila]
