MORNING COMES GENTLY (photomorph) & "over the hump..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

over the hump into
the day (ka-thump) a walker
across the door sill

[haiku written 9-24-15. This might be more properly termed a "small poem" or a "haiku-esque." But since I formatted it as a haiku, I'm calling it one anyway. Or maybe a senryu, for its wee bit of humor? Even if in either case it might well be picked apart for the way I break the lines/phrases, for the parentheses, and for that rhyming sound-word. But, so be it! It's over the hump and into this day, as is. No matter what it might/should be called. Photomorph "Morning Comes Gently" (12-8-15 010v7a) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

OASIS (photomorph) & A LEAP YEAR STORY (about a dream) by Roswila

A LEAP YEAR STORY

our first leap doesn't even make it to the right
planet, though luckily we land within yards
of each other and in the same moment
of the quickly passing current of time

I call my two fellow émigrés close to me,
one at each of my sides, and grab their hands
"Hurry, tempus fugit," I urge, "And don't let
go of my hands no matter the turbulence
of our next try to leap to Mars, if you let go
who knows where ... or when ...
we will each wind up"

they tightly clasp my hands and we leap ...
ah HAH! we've made it to Mars, but we're
somewhat off target, we should be closer
to those distant mountain foothills, just
across this vast rust colored plain

one more quick leap should do it, I think,
and we hold hands as I stress again
not to let go, we only have time
left for one more try

and we leap in a rush of excitement
so strong it's almost a wind ...

I wake up, already sleepily mulling over
that choice of transportation mode --
so exposed and inexact -- but even
more puzzling, why Mars?

then again, it's true that I have always felt
a bit like a creature from another planet
and now when an Earther gives me
that askance look I can retort "Hey,
what else can you expect?
I'm from Mars!"

THINGS FLY APART (photomorph) & NOTHING STICKS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

NOTHING STICKS

nothing sticks together anymore
connections lasting only long enough
to take note of before they disassemble

when did every surface become
so smooth and slick
that a meeting up barely raises hope
before promptly
slipping apart

RELUCTANT DAWN (photomorph) & A DOOZY (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A DOOZY

last night's batch of dreams
must have been a doozy,
though not one of them
bothered to stay around
even as their agitprop woke her
in the pre-dawn hours
they disappeared, poof!
no wand, no top hat, no rabbit
just gone
just her
sitting at bed's edge shivering,
the night air saturated
with foreboding

HANGING AROUND (photo) & WAKE UP (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

WAKE UP

what's that pulling my leg
from the end of the bed

did a neighbor's dog or cat get in
while I've been asleep?

I might think it
a silly dream metaphor about not
taking people so seriously
only it's too real
and somewhat scary

and I can't seem to shake it off
my foot or get bothered enough
to wake up thoroughly
and check it out, as I lie here
wiggling whatever's dangling
heavily from the end of my leg
and anxiously await the return
of deep sleep

so, that's another possible
dream metaphor:
wake up
or suffer the consequences

WIND UMBRELLA (photo) & THE CHASE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE CHASE

she starts to chase after the moral
of this dream tale about justifying the low rent
she paid in that old apartment all those years,
and of making an extensive complicated chart
to prove she'd not gotten away with anything

when a golden tree outside the window
usurps her focus to the shining filigree
it sketches and erases,
sketches and erases
under a wild burst
of morning wind

ROSE CRADLE (photo) & A SNAP OF THE FINGERS (on a dream) by Roswila

A SNAP OF THE FINGERS

my friend's puzzlement is no surprise
when I say I'm planning to have a baby,
that time passes so terribly fast
as we're getting older and older

for instance, should I have as much
as twenty years left, even that's
just a snap of the fingers,
and I never did have a child

but I am surprised she doesn't react
to my intent to respond
to that awful politician's advances,
a man neither of us can stomach

oh, there'll be a romance to get going
with him, if one can call it romance
with a narcissist, but that surely
won't last longer than a May fly,
nor do I want it to

what's important to me is the pregnancy
and birth, not the high of a romance
nor even the man

what matters is what's created
from what happens
