ON THE WAY TO THE LIGHT (photomorph) & A TURKEY AFFAIR (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A TURKEY AFFAIR

a large turkey and I
hang out together in a small field,
enjoying the lovely early spring day,
each pursuing our own separate
pleasures as well: the turkey
foraging in fits and starts for seed
in the bright green grass sprouts,
as I peer all around us seeking
inspiration for a poem or maybe
a photo; I turn back to gazing
at the turkey and what a sight!
it's moved yards away from where
I still stand, and is endlessly
folding and opening, folding
and opening it's fan-like array
of feathers that have turned
a radiant white in the brilliant
sunlight, as it quickly explores
the still bare branches of a tiny tree
between each folding and unfolding
of its feathers; my delight, however,
is instantly frosted by an old show
tune rising like a movie soundtrack,
to which I sing sadly along:
"Love look away,
love look away from me,
lonely though I may be,
love look away from me"*

[free verse poem on a dream of 4-20-18. And, yes, I did have quite a wry laugh at the association of this "turkey" to the slang usage of the word (e.g., a person who's clueless or unintelligent). *These are the lines in "Love, Look Away" (from the musical Flower Drum Song) that I "sang." My dream mind compacted the words a bit to meet the needs of the dream, I suppose. (I.e., the fourth line actually is "Leave me and let me be," while "lonely though I may be" occurs earlier in the song.) Photomorph "On the Way to the Light" (11-24-17 049v8a) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,

HOLDING ON TO THE LIGHT (photomorph) & AN ENDLESS LOOP (dream inspired free verse poem) by Roswila

AN ENDLESS LOOP

first, she only notices it's another dream
in which the same fragment keeps repeating
like a video scene stuck on instant replay;
then she actually registers this particular
dream's rerunning message; well, at least its
visual form -- a silhouette on white paper
of a dark shape, like an evil super hero with
two pairs of arms and a prehensile cape -- but
with no sense of what truly animates it; never
in these sorts of endless loop dreams does any
significance or purpose become known, not
even on waking analysis; so much, she thinks,
for Jung's assertion* that a symbol is a vessel
for our unconscious contents: sometimes she
can tilt that damn cup in any direction she
will and even turn it upside down and
spank it on its unyielding bottom
'til her hand hurts,
and nothing
falls out
nothing
at
all

[free verse poem inspired by a 4-13-18 dream fragment (the evil super hero image). *The psychologist C.G. Jung did actually define symbols this way. As opposed to signs, which do not point beyond themselves. Photomorph "Holding on to the Light" (11-26-17 005v2h) by Roswila]
