OFF-CENTER (photo) & "he says 'go ahead ...'" (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

he says "go ahead
sure, play whatever music
you'd most like to hear"
I push the tile at the center of
the vast disc of music choices

my delight rises with the song, heightened
by his willingness to hear what's central

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

the crow at the top

attention seeker!

REVENANTS (photomorph) & THE FUTURE OF DREAMS (five scifaiku) by Roswila

THE FUTURE OF DREAMS
(Five Scifaiku*)

refugees
they ride starships
we, dreams

invaded by bodies
the dream ship fades
lost in space

centuries
of frozen dreams
haunted cryo-ship

strange dreams, these
the elders say they're of earth
genetic flotsam

seventh generation
dreams of earth burn away
under the constant suns

[*Scifaiku = haiku-like form with sci-fi, fantasy, horror, or cosmological theme. I posted these here 11 yrs ago. They were written 18 years ago, when I first discovered the scifaiku form (though I tweaked two of them ever so slightly today). Didn't have anything new to put up now, so I went to the listing on my blog of posts that go back to 2006, and clicked on a date at random. BTW, each of these was from a different night's dreaming, and I put them together for that post 11 years ago, based on their dream theme. I used to identify more with the first four scifaiku, but now find I relate most to the last one ... in a positive sense ... to oversimplify: learning to let the past be the past. CAVERNS OF THE HEART (photomorph) & VALENTINE'S DAY 2018 (two mixed format non-dream poems) by Roswila

VALENTINE'S DAY 2018

early morning:

it's likely to be
the only Valentine she'll get today:
this message from her
warm bed to go right back to sleep
if she wants any comfort at all

but her shy dreams almost sigh audibly
as she turns slowly away from them,

to face the day's gloating: it's caught her again
in the net of the undone and the unknown

mid-day:

I guess this could be considered a Valentine,
one I'd not expected today, nor even any
day from you: a quiet "Sweetie..."
as you brush my shoulder
with one hand

a bit of soft candy
I can shape into a heart, should I wish

but more probably a casual slip of
habit's tongue, from some other time,
some other relationship,

nevertheless, so sweet

[poem one: a tanka with two 2-liners, and poem two: free verse; both non-dream and written Valentine's Day 2-14-18. Photomorph "Caverns of the Heart" (2-18-10 19938v6m) by Roswila]

LAST SONG (photomorph) & THE SUPER NOVA (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE SUPER NOVA

when I look back to
the sudden burst of recognition you'd
never love me (at least in that
intimate way I so craved), it's still burning there
in my deepest inner skies like a super nova;
and like a dying star the brilliant light it gives off
will long out last me, the only thing
truly lost then? this pair of old eyes to
soak in
the beauty of this beloved light's
flaring out

ACCOUCHEMENT (photomorph) & AS IF IT WERE NOTHING (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

AS IF IT WERE NOTHING

as pissed as I am at her for those snarky comments
of hers about me that I overheard, and her
sugar-wouldn't- melt-in-her-mouth
sweetness to my face, I'm still
delighted to hear she's pregnant
(at least someone's getting
what they want around
here!) she sure doesn't
look at all enceinte, I say,
but the others quickly respond
that she's due any day now, and I wonder
sadly (and not for the first time) at what too many
women carry around with them as if it were nothing

[free verse poem on a dream of 2-5-18. This is one of those I'm rather uncertain about. Whether the transition from being pissed to empathy makes any sort of sense. I am sort of content with the formatting of the lines, though. It was great fun getting them that way to reflect the idea of pregnant bellies "as if [they] were nothing." The more I'm getting into shaping poems visually, the more I find myself regretting the use of long words, though ....LOL. When they come up where I want to end a line they're frequently just way too long! And I'll admit to occasionally finding other, smaller words that will do just as well, so I can make the shape I'm aiming for. Ah, well, keeps the old brain cells popping, if nothing else. THE WANNABE

struggling to draw out
even a thread of passion
from the slippery raw silk
of our interaction
