SOAKING IT UP (photomorph) & WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

he placidly invites
me to walk with him on the huge
lush green lawn;
my reaction on seeing him approach
had, as always, been far from placid

much less as he places
his hand gently on my lower back
guiding me to the edge
of the grassy expanse glittering
in the bright afternoon sunlight

where do we go from here, I think, a lawn's such
unsure footing for my ungainly arthritic gait

but he's aware of this and I decide for once
not to worry and to follow the lead of a man I like

it's a beautiful day, everything shining bright and
smelling fresh after days of much needed rain

I, too, feeling revitalized as he steers me off
the edge onto this new and unknown stretch

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

AFTER THE FLOOD (photomorph) & FACE TO FACE (dream based prose poem) by Roswila

FACE TO FACE

it seems quite appropriate
that the bathroom stall she chose
to go into in this large theatre's
Ladies Room, is also very large

its relative scope, though,
can't beat that of the river of urine
pouring out of her so forcefully and in
such a rapid rush she has to scramble
way back almost on to the toilet
tank to keep it from missing
the bowl and flooding the floor

yeah, she thinks, as she recalls
other peeing dreams she's had,
and the stream keeps raging,
"I'm royally pissed off, aren't I?
This is the Granddaddy of all
p.o.'d images!" and she adjusts
her back and butt against
the toilet tank and seat to re-aim
the wandering, still rapid flow

she's astounded and not a little bit
disturbed when it suddenly hits her
that this must be what's been underneath
all those tears that have been drowning
her for months now: a torrent
of barely manageable anger

as the urine stream drips to a stop
she sighs, "Ah well, time to wipe up
and face the anger without its dream face,
or masking tears," she thinks

it's about time she take it on, no matter
how the face to face meeting may shake up
her already wobbling self-image

[prose poem on a dream of 12-22-16. Lucidity (knowing one is dreaming, as one is dreaming) threaded throughout this dream. I.e., I have had many peeing dreams over the years and have thought of them as signaling anger -- based on that expression "pissed off." Photomorph "After the Flood" (12-15-16 021v2b) by Roswila]

MISGIVINGS (photomorph) & UNTIL IT HAPPENS (dream narrative) by Roswila

UNTIL IT HAPPENS

pregnant but not yet showing
though my due date's Christmas Day,
I'm grateful the airport I wait in
is not overly crowded (which
is surprising given it's so close
to the year end holidays)

I wander around in the sunny,
high ceilinged space, aware of men's
approving glances, wondering
how they'd react if they knew of
my "delicate condition"

and I quickly find myself worrying
if I'll be a fully loving mother, once
meeting the needs of another soul
has to and always will come before
my own, something I'd assumed I have
what it takes to do, but how can I know
until it happens?

then Michele Obama graciously
approaches and gently commandeers me
to stack a mess of art supplies neatly
and safely against a wall, while she turns
her full attention to a six year old girl
who will some day use the supplies

I make short, efficient work
of the assignment, and wander on,
though maybe I should have stretched out
the task, since only being in close
proximity to the tender attention our
(soon to be ex-) First Lady was giving
the girl, has eased my anxiety

[narrative on a dream of 12-21-16. Phew! One of those jam packed, multi-leveled dreams. Way too much to go into here, but I will say it both scares me (can I handle whatever it is that may be coming) and gives me a lot of hope. Photomorph "Misgivings" (11-8-16 003v2d) by Roswila]

AUTUMN ROSE (photo) & ON THE BODY'S AGING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

ON THE BODY'S AGING

it's like being a slow leaking balloon:
same amount of surface but more
and more sag, however, there's still
plenty of air left

and the new shapes that the less
and less supported surface takes,
no longer round and smooth
(and some might say boringly
unchangeable), become evermore
suggestive, inspiring not only
the imaginative eye but inviting
a touch that lingers

come, treat all those hungry nerve
endings in your sensitive palms
and fingers to a journey through all
these yielding folds migrating south,
like plump, soft geese
in an ongoing season of fall

SEARCHING FOR A PATTERN (photomorph) & WHAT LIES IN WAITING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

WHAT LIES IN WAITING

she'd like to believe she fully feels her grief
and sorrow each time it rises, fascinating
like a swaying cobra, but she knows she's
being mesmerized by only the merest
flickerings of some ancient agony, too
huge to take on whole, a vague
foreshadowing of which slithers
sideways in the dark of her denial
leaving a pattern of shudders, like
a throwback genetic code for which
conditions don't yet exist to trigger
its full helical expression

WHERE'S THE RAIN (photomorph) & "snacking in B-Lounge..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

snacking in B-Lounge
next to two napping neighbors
waiting for Godot*

[non-dream haiku written 12-16-16. * "Waiting for Godot," the play by Samuel Becket. Especially see the section on the various ways the play has been interpreted. The multiplicity of ways reminds me of how I relate sometimes to any given poem, and especially haiku. Becket is quoted as saying his play is about "symbiosis." I relate to that, too (if I'm interpreting his use of the word correctly of course...smile). Because there's a symbiotic relationship between author and poem, and poem and reader. And also between the author and reader or any sort of feedback/response, should there actually be any. Which, if as author or reader one wants/expects that sort of connection, can be like waiting for godot, who never does appear in the play. So one is then thrown back on one's own experience and actions. (Not sure that fully says what I'm trying to get at, but I'll leave it at that.) BTW, I hadn't been thinking of the play, and haven't seen it in a great many years, when it popped from my pen as the last line of this 'ku.
