RINGING IN THE LIGHT (photomorph) & PRAYER TO EMPTY MOMENTS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO EMPTY MOMENTS

do not let these lacunae in the hours
be filled by the fantasies tossing
in the crowded offing

let those yearnings float anchored
at a distance, booty waiting
for an unconscious pirate of dreams

leave these empty spaces unfilled,
like the bronze carapaces of bells
ringing their roundness
into the welcoming world

[non-dream free verse poem written 5-5-16. This is now the third in a series of "prayer" poems. And I have an idea for one on dreams percolating. Photomorph "Ringing in the Light" (4-21-16 003v4) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

NIGHT'S CRADLE (photomorph) & THE NATURE OF THINGS (dream narrative) by Roswila

THE NATURE OF THINGS

they not only know when the twins
will be born but that the girl
will be birthed the day before the boy

I ask how they hope to make this happen,
but get no direct answer, just shades
of not very well hidden amusement
at my concern as they try to redirect
my interest elsewhere

I try Googling for information on how
they might attempt to control the births,
but the computer has Windows 10 (Ack!)
which I cannot abide, but I try like
the blazes anyway to do a search

just as I'm turning the air blue cursing,
I overhear one of them comment
that they now have the brain scans
of the unborn twins: Ah Hah!, I think,
that's how they hope to precipitate
the birth of the girl and then they boy
exactly when they want them to happen:
by stimulating each of the twin's brains
at a particular time, in a precise way

I listen closely, but no mention's made
of the mother's brain or (more importantly)
body; isn't there an almost musical interplay
between babe and mother during birth,
a delicate orchestration of bodies,
minds and spirits?

with such a finely tuned and reciprocal
process evolved millennia ago,
wouldn't it be wiser (not to mention simpler)
to let things take their course, than to try
to micro-manage nature?

MORNING HAZE (photo) & PRAYER TO THE HAZE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO THE HAZE

keep diffusing the light
that burns through to the core
and focus it some other day,
softening the world's sharp
edges 'til it's like a grey cat
whose golden eyes have closed
in repose, then allow this dream
of ease and beauty to enclose
like the whispery touch
of an old silk shirt

[non-dream free verse poem written 5-4-16. I actually have two dream poems from last night's dreams hanging fire. (Hope that indicates a turn around in my recent decreasing dream recall. I kept suggesting as I fell asleep that I would remember my dreams.) However, I'd already written this little poem and wanted to share it. Maybe I'm starting a series of "Prayer" poems (see "Prayer to the Sun" posted here a few days ago). Photo "Morning Haze" (11-11-10 10010e) by Roswila]

ROOTED IN MEMORY (photo) & REMEMBERING (mixed format poem) by Roswila

REMEMBERING

where've my dreams flown?
the night kind that've been my support
for it must be centuries
well, more like decades but that's
long enough to miss them terribly

are they as upset as I
with all that's rising through the waking
hours to grab me rudely?
at least they have the choice to flee
whereas I have no choice at all

wakeful I must stand for it all: the memories and
each new, ever more painful insight they bring

like holograms they flip in ways I've not seen before,
upending views of a past I'd thought settled

pretty much settled, that is, but here's the past
proving again it is not dead, not even past*

yet with each embrace of a flipped view an ease lands
lightly askew like the first spreading out of a blanket

under which I will crawl to dream again
and hopefully this time to remember

[two tanka and five two-liners on my recent increasing lack of dream recall, though I'm very aware I've been dreaming. *From the line by the writer William Faulkner: "The past is not dead, it is not even past." Photo "Rooted In Memory" (5-2-16 007v5) by Roswila]

LACED WITH LIGHT (photomorph) & "a peanut butter..." (non-dream senryu) by Roswila

a peanut butter
breakfast yet again, boredom
laced with gratitude

THE SOURCE OF ALL ASHES (photo) & THE BLAZE (non-dream poem) by Roswila

THE BLAZE

if I should be left
holding ashes and embers
I'll choose to remember
our dance in the fire

if I should be kissed
by a chilly wind only
I'll choose to remember
the heat of the flame

and if I should be brushed
by regret's long shadow
I'll choose to remember
the light of the blaze

MAY DAY SUN (photomorph) & PRAYER TO THE SUN (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO THE SUN

burn out the suffering
but leave me the pain
and the awe

this close to the last edge
their brilliance nearly blinds

like gems at the seashore
we gather from our dreams
and lift to the light

[non-dream free verse poem written 5-1-16. I'd drafted a dream poem before going out for a May Day walk in the lovely sunshine. But I'll probably post it tomorrow as this little poem popped once I sat down under the sun's warmth. BTW, I'm making the Buddhist distinction here between pain being inevitable, but suffering not. It's how we respond to, think about our pain that turns it into on-going suffering. A lesson I keep learning over and over these days. And how much more time I have to waste coping with the ravages of suffering I surely don't know. Even if I did, I no longer want to waste a minute if I can possibly avoid it. Not with each new moment waiting to be lifted to the light. Photomorph "May Day Sun" (4-13-13 12459v2b) by Roswila]
