INVOKING THE MASCULINE (photomorph) & ONE WAY OR THE OTHER (dream narrative) by Roswila
ONE WAY OR THE OTHER
Dream One
her long-time lover, Bill,*
arrives, as always she's delighted
to see him but becomes anxious
when he says "I'm quitting!"
guiding her to lie with him
on a large, over-stuffed couch;
as he brushes debris of some sort
off the cushions he quietly adds
"But I'm not leaving you..."
this is a relief but also a sorrow,
after all he's a known cheater,
then again, she's the one
dreaming of him
Dream Two
she's cleaning her kitchen, when along
comes Brad,** sporting only tighty-
whities (what a sight that is, she thinks)
he ever so casually mentions
that he's going away for a while, quickly
adding as he puts a warm, caressing
hand on her shoulder "But I'll be
back soon, I'm not leaving for good;"
as she tosses the last sticky garbage
from a plate into the trash she
wonders why she wants him around
at all, given he's a terrible flirt,
never coming across even as he turns
the heat up further each time
they meet in her dreams
Conclusion
it seems the only fidelity she can rely on
is the inevitability of seduction,
one way or the other
[narrative on two dreams of 11-18-16. *Bill Clinton, who's appeared over many years in my dreams, sometimes as lover, other times just good friend. **Brad Pitt, who's appeared once in a while in my dreams since moving to CA, usually with some sort of flirtation going on between us. And, yes, there was a vague lucidity (knowing one is dreaming, as one is dreaming) during both of these dreams, as implied by the ending lines of each. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
