SEEKING PARITY (photomorph) & "so what if this pain..." (non-dream tanka) by Roswila

so what if this pain
never alters or even eases?
all things teach something:
gravity never lets up at all
and we keep striking a balance

[non-dream tanka written 8-3-18. No great shakes this one. But I really wanted to put something up since for a couple of days now I've have huge computer woes and it's a relief to be able to post. (At base, the problem was caused by and involving access to the editing pages of my blogs. But Google's also complicit.) So it's good just to post anything! There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

GENESIS (photomoprh) & THE RIGHT WORDS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE RIGHT WORDS

how can the right words be found, or maybe
that's the problem, the freight of words is too much
and breaks the back of any attempt to describe this
moment ... hm, could one word do it by itself? like that
famous haiku: the single word "tundra"* in the middle of
a blank white page? or maybe (if I'm not over-reaching
myself) like my own one word effort of "fringe"** at the
edge of an empty page? ok, ok, so, the words "beauty"
and "liveliness" come to mind but each is as much of a
botheration as a gaggle of words, and they're not even
concrete -- though, true, one can sometimes see their
referents and even touch them, however, not without
endless differing interpretations and opinions to tell us
that this -- and not that, or some other of  so many
ungraspable things -- is what they are  -- ah! how's
about  the solitary word "emergence," in a rainbow
of colors at the very bottom margin of a black page?
as if about to fall like a shiny ripe apple into one's
lap, or maybe even roll backwards into the grand
unknown from which it tumbled?

[non-dream free verse written 7-30-18.  *There is an actual famous "tundra" one word haiku by Cor van den Heuvel. **And in March of 2015, my "fringe" was accepted for inclusion in Joan Rosenberg Dent's ceramic book art:

THE MOUNTAINS SUPERVISE (photo) & MOUNTAINOUS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

MOUNTAINOUS

so very familiar, this twisting, two-lane road
down the seaside mountain ... ah, yes, that's
what it was, a recurring night dream in my
long ago youth: it seems I'm always clambering
up a steadily rising, tree-lined mountain road
to its top most edge and wide angle view, then
stumbling back down through hot dust and over
rocks, skirting the roughest spots when possible,
the spectacular view below filled with buildings
that appear to grow larger, even as the gaps
in the mountain greenery seem less apparent
for all their increasing nearness; "It's a matter
of perspective..." one might be tempted to
assert and that's true, but what about all that
then lies unacknowledged outside the focus
on oh-so-carefully planned footsteps and
anxiously held breath at precipitous edges;
for if it could, would a mountain ever waste
even a moment of its slow time fearing
the loss of life and limb along the glorious
paths of its own transformations

BREAKING FREE (photo) & AT THE BEACH (Or: How Low Can You Go) by Roswila

AT THE BEACH
(Or: “How Low Can You Go)

I watch myself – a large, dark brown, male
dog – get into a very brief but intense, noisy but
unbloody dust up with another dog – a smaller
light brown bitch; somehow I know we’re both
aware that The Shah, our Master, may have seen
our rebellious confrontation from his fancy
palanquin by the breezy water’s edge; despite
(or maybe due to) this unclarity the bitch and I
wander casually off the beach, each going our
own way; suddenly, I turn around and take a low
leap, landing right back at the beach, then crawl/
shimmy as low and slowly as I can across the
sand toward the lounging Shah, in abject
apology for the dog fight; I keep repeating this
leap/crawl maneuver as I near my Master;
then I see that the bitch is not far behind me,
she employing the same leap/crawl apology/
approach toward the imperious Shah; I cough
up sand as I leap and land for more crawling,
even though I realize I'm still no more certain
the Master witnessed our brief fight, but figure
it never hurts to cover one's butt by apologizing
to the powers that be for any show of
independence or power of one's
own, no matter how small or brief
