BRIDGE OF TEARS (photomorph) & SOME CHASMS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

SOME CHASMS

some chasms can't be crossed
much less mended
the rips in the body of the earth
frozen impassably wide and deep
uncounted years ago

some chasms can't be crossed
much less mended
no matter our love songs
slipping back and forth across them
as if they could knit nets
from the cold night air

some chasms can't be crossed
much less mended
and yet we continue to sing
to each other from across the abysses
seeking the right keys
as if magic could build bridges
and the wind's long fingers
couldn't tear their fragile arches apart

some chasms can't be crossed
much less mended
but the heat of our sweet yearnings
compels us to keep trying

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE (photomorph) & THE HOLOGRAM (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE HOLOGRAM*

hey, I do realize it's not him I'm actually
relating to in some psychic way in my mind;
this is after all only an increasingly intricate
hologram of him growing in the convoluted
recesses of my brain since our first intense
meeting; an insubstantial tapestry, expanding
its weave with each strand of the light he
flashes whenever his living, breathing self
briefly enters the picture; and, yeah, I knew
I was a goner, incapable of deconstructing
this scintillating web when it started talking
to me (it'd been touching me from the start
which, of course, is when all the trouble began);
and now I find I'm lost like the Little Mermaid
if she'd refused to give up her fluted tail for
that landlubber of a prince, choosing instead
to stay here in these proliferating rays
of moonlight as they cross each other
in an oceanic weave, aswim in this lonely
labyrinth of light, this holographic lover

[non-dream free verse poem written 3-27-17. *Hologram: "a three-dimensional image formed by the interference of light beams from a laser or other coherent light source." On another topic altogether, HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO! Here in South Central CA (as over all of CA) we celebrate Mexican culture on this day. Folk from Mexico and their children born here, contribute greatly to everyone's lives. And (to wax a wee bit poliitcal) they do not deserve to be fearful of deportation. BUGS IN THE SYSTEM (photomorph) & GETTING THE BUGS OUT (dream narrative) by Roswila

GETTING THE BUGS OUT

she and I tire of sweeping up roaches;
I don't even know if they're still alive
or dead, I just want to end their
intrusion and toss them into the garbage;
but it's a bigger chore than I'd imagined,
as their little bodies are very light
and the slightest stirring of the air
near them sends them skittering away,
beyond the broom's reach; so she and I
take a brief beak, after which, in spite
of my friend's having given up, I promptly
renew my own efforts and sweep furiously
away, especially at the piles of dust along
the baseboards; I'd swear the buggers
multiplied exponentially while I was sitting
on my butt, as the number of dark and brittle
little bodies mixed in with the dust bunnies
is unbelievable; I sigh heavily and my friend
announces from the couch she lounges on
that she finds my persistence admirable:
I'd much prefer her help

TATTLE TALE (photomorph) & A LIKELY STORY (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

A LIKELY STORY

a batch of tiny birds lines up neatly
on a phone wire silhouetted
against the hot blue sky:
do their little feet tap into
the fugitive messages passing back
and forth within their curling grips,
and do they gossip with each other
in their pointed little tweets:
did you just hear
that likely story?

GARDEN GHOSTS (photomorph) & EVERYWHERE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

EVERYWHERE

everywhere I go, a place I've been
with you or even just seen you in
assaults my senses; as if you,
like some wild animal, had rubbed
yourself all over it, scenting it,
claiming it as yours, leaving me
to cope with the agitating whiff
of you that rises when I stumble
on the hold of yet another memory

NO WAY IN (photo) & NOTHING AT ALL (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

NOTHING AT ALL

an old country western song sadly proclaims
"I don't want to be a memory..."*

maybe it's even sadder that I would love
to be a memory to you: even just a single
night to explore your body with my own
as I express wordlessly how I feel

better to be a memory to you
than this nothing at all

[non-dream free verse poem written 4-28-17. *I Don't Want To Be A Memory, on YouTube. On another not totally unrelated topic, HAPPY MAY DAY! I say "not totally unrelated topic" because the ancient roots of May Day are in a mating/fertility celebration, and the May Pole in that context is rather phallic. Not to mention that there's a pole or two around here I might like to climb. Photo "No Way In" (4-3-17 037v4) by Roswila]

THE POEM GESTATES (photomorph) & THE MUSICIAN (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE MUSICIAN

I'd not known this star of that old and still popular
sci-fi/horror T.V. show was really a musician,
and what a musician!

his one man show's incredibly vibrant and wildly
diverse, with cool moments of stillness
between thundering falls and colorful
creative flights

he moves from instrument to instrument quickly
and skillfully, returning at what winds up being
the end of his almost symphonic display to
the beautiful, warm brown wood piano:

he plays on its various surfaces with his strong,
deft hands, as if it were a drum, then plucks
at the delicate carving on the built in music
stand for the final, deep throated,
long lasting note

his face glows with delight as he looks over
his shoulder at the small audience, grinning
and clearly seeking response; I do not know
what to say much less how to say it

I'll have to let a poem sift all the way
up and out of me; I hope he'll have
the patience to wait; it shouldn't
be too long as it's been on
the way for a while

[narrative on a dream of 4-28-17. The guy in this dream was David Dochovny, of The X Files. I've not been a fan or either of them. In fact, I've never liked the show at all. So this dream sets me to wondering who/what in my life I'm not seeing clearly. Actually, I'm more inclined to see it as a wish fulfillment dream: that someone would be different than they are/appear to be, or that they would reveal themselves to me at a more meaningful level. At another, different level, it has a sexual component (never you mind, no details forthcoming if you don't see it, :-D). Photomorph "The Poem Gestates" (4-19-17 022v2a) by Roswila]
