STRUGGLING THROUGH (photomorph) & MAYBE LIKE PINOCCHIO (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

MAYBE LIKE PINOCCHIO

first, for all those many months,
it was the male of the species
showing up, mostly more like
haunting her

and now it's the female -- woman
after woman out of her past and
some even known to her in
the present day

each woman -- and often more
than one -- hovers in her dreams,
a fluttering dancer, daring
a later, waking recall

the only thing abundantly clear?
her dream self likes these mostly
frenemies, wants them around,
up close and personal

and so waking self sets her itchy,
long nose to the grindstone of these
memories -- both dream and actual --
mixed and hardened by sunrise
into a closed circle

hoping against hope
there's wisdom to be gained

maybe like Pinocchio she's been lying

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

TAKING A TUMBLE (photomorph) & TUMBLING TROUBLE (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

TUMBLING TROUBLE

kittens and kittens
and more kittens, wee ones mewling
and tumbling around
my living room floor that's been
covered with pale, soft old quilts

are these large quilts meant
to protect my space, or to give these little bits
a safe place to roam

guess it doesn't matter as both may be true,
and maybe even something altogether else

I just know I'm surprised to see this circus, even
as the implied work for me, gives me great pause

what's that expression?
(or am I making it up to fit this scene)
"Do not have kittens!"*

well, stack it all any way you want to, I've got a
roomful of highly energetic trouble to deal with

[a tanka, with two dreamku and three 2-liners on a dream of 6-6-18. *I've long tended to relate to cats and kittens in my dreams as anger or at least irritation. (Long story as to how I came to that; i.e., many years of dream work.) But decided to Google that expression about "having kittens" to see what else might be hidden in this image of a multitude of kittens. Seems there's also a multitude of meanings, ranging from fear and pain, to anger and anxiety. All of which do describe aspects of my inner world right now (and in my life generally ... sigh). What I find most interesting, actually, is that command not to have kittens. To protect myself, in a way, from myself. :-D Photomorph "Taking A Tumble" (5-13-18 034v2m) by Roswila]

SOMEHOW IT ALL HANGS TOGETHER (photomorph) & THREE BLIND MICE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THREE BLIND MICE

all three of you familiar men
traipsing casually through my dreams
last night, not a one of you, not one,
exposing who you are (neither literally,
nor metaphorically); not even the two
of you looking for something from me,
declare yourselves openly, and the one
I want the most to understand and even
go after (in my subtle -- nay, call a spade
a spade, anxious, halting way), even he
assumes that all he does and says is
obvious ... well, the only thing that says
to me is that not one of you is aware of,
much less believes in my sensitivity that
like a glass-smooth lake dimples or tosses
under the passing winds, registering the
brush of what lives at the far edges of your
consciousness: an entire universe, way back
there in each of you; hell, I'd hazard a guess
there are unnumbered universes stretching out
endlessly, deep inside of everyone -- yes, to
be clear myself, I'm not yearning after express
and detailed knowledge of each and every unique
cosmos teasing from within the three of you like
the lightly barbed, feathery fingers of ghosts:
just that you stop posing long enough to peer
inside and see their massive patterns yourselves,
then offer me a glimpse, make some attempt to
share a bit of the reality you harbor, speaking
to me in whispery, strange languages from the
distances of our interactions, begging inter-
pretation like hieroglyphs on the stone walls
you present to the world, or endless sheaves of
printed computer code, or a midnight Caribbean
sky filled with more stars than this city-girl's
ever seen, impressing upon my naked eyes that
they cannot be touched

THE QUARREL OF LIGHT AND DARK (photomorph) & THERE ARE TIMES WHEN EVEN TWO'S A CROWD (dream narratives) by Roswila

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN
EVEN TWO'S A CROWD

Dream One:

we're back together: it's actually a surprise
when I realize we'd been a continent apart
for decades; we've slipped incredibly
readily into relating and living
together again (I swear we must
have been the original model for the term
"co-dependency" back all those years ago)
... what's no surprise at all? my niggling
fears that I'm not doing any of it right,
am not giving enough, and what little
I manage to offer, is not given often
enough ... sigh, same old, same old ...
and, yeah, to be honest, the same old
vague suspicion that I may not even want
any of what we're doing together enough

Dream Two:

yeah, I figure I'll go the funeral, I may not
have known him very well, but he was an
influential part of our community, it wouldn't
hurt to share with others in offering respects;
but no matter what I do (and it's getting later
and later) I can't find someone to give me
directions to the train to get to the funeral
(not to mention not one vaunted member
of our community offers me a ride); I
keep wending my way through this room
that's crowded with people readying for
the trip to the funeral in another small,
seaside town, and finally hit upon a
young woman who seems not only very
knowledgeable but anxious to help me:
but this, too, goes no place, though I try
to follow her wandering words as she
hems and haws and insists on helping
me, not even the note she hands me
with instructions on where to meet
her family whom she says I can catch
a ride with to the funeral, makes any
sense at all (hieroglyphics would be
more legible, I mumble) and, as usual
(I add soto voce, knowing no one's
listening to me anyway), should I not
get to the funeral I'll be gossiped about
as being uncaring, and if I do get the help
to go to it, I'll be labeled a pest, as surely
as if a sign were pinned to my back
in bright red letters: well, therein lies my
answer since nothing I can do will
please others, I'll please myself:
I go home and curl up for a nap
