WALLFLOWER (photomorph) & OOOPS! (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

OOOPS!

ooops! she blurts out
by way of an apology

and 'twas ever thus
in her life, she muses,
she's inevitably several beats
behind the song
when she finally gets invited
to the dance

true, sometimes she's ahead
of the beat,
even tripping on the hem
of the next dance

but behind or ahead,
how can there ever be a way
to partner up, to hold hands
or touch hearts, if she's always
stepping on toes,
getting the rhythm wrong,
and all while singing sadly
deep beneath her breath
to a love song
no one else can hear

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

EVOCATION (photomorph) & IT'S LONG ENOUGH NOW (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

IT'S LONG ENOUGH NOW

it's long enough now,
I say, that I've forgotten her last name,
but not how she looked
doing her volunteer community work,
or the delightful sound of her laughter

they smile indulgently
at me, asserting that she wasn't very smart,
but I don't concur:
it took not only intense creativity but a lot
of smarts to cope with her mental issues

the man who mourns her
to this day agrees with me, adding that
her rooms are still there,
untouched since the day she died,
and that he sneaks in there regularly

where he sits alone,
surrounded by the evidence of her life,
letting it refresh
his memories of the woman he'd loved,
whose last name I can't even recall

but I do recall
how long ago she left a gap in our midst
and agree with others
that it's time to open up her rooms,
donate everything, repair, and paint:

let this museum space, unlit now except for passing
sun- and moonlight, become a home again for the living

[tanka series capped by a two-liner on a dream of 4-3-18. This was an actual well-loved woman in our retirement community, many years back. And I just now realized after choosing the pic to go with this post, that it's a much edited version of a photo that she liked and bought a copy of. BTW, her rooms were not kept in place, that image is part of the dream's work. And, of course, the entire dream/poem is a metaphor for issues I'm dealing with in my own (mostly inner) life. Especially the one of letting go. Photomorph "Evocation" (6-28-09 2988v5a) by Roswila]

SNOWED-IN (photomorph) & ALWAYS AT THE START (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

ALWAYS AT THE START

she's always at the start of the trip, that
one in which where she's trying to go

looks farther away on each step, but
maybe I'm already where I need to
be for now, she thinks,
as yet another

soggy, snowy step totally swamps her
sneakers; would this clutching
cold ultimately just
disappear, if

she chose to stop plowing on and
simply watched the cityscape
melting around her in a
melange of shadows

and reflected moonlight: like
the passing of ancient
memories going who-
knows-where, if
anywhere
at all,

just like
she

[free verse poem on a dream of 4-1-18. May sound strange to say, but this is actually a rather positive dream. Acceptance being a major key. Photomorph "Snowed-In" (6-27-09 2904v2f) by Roswila]
