THAT SINKING FEELING (photomorph) & GO KNOW (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

GO KNOW

how can one regret
a dream? well, I almost do
feeling scuzzed on
recalling it as I do: why you
making love to me, ack!

and worse yet, I was fine with it all: go know*
the depths to which one’s mind (and body) can sink

[one tanka with a capping two-liner on a dream of 6-14-19. *"go know" -- in common use in the sense of "go figure." From the Yiddish “geh vays," literally meaning go know. Photomorph “That Sinking Feeling” (8-7-14 002v4[3]) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

FALLING THROUGH THE NIGHT (photomorph) & THAT DEEP NIGHT (dream tanka series) by Roswila

THAT DEEP NIGHT

at one end of night,
a dream of my brother at age six,
at the other end,
an even vaguer dream of that old boss
of mine, and I mean old: he was 96+

both dead now a bunch
of years (my brother at only 65),
as I dream away
almost every night about them or any
number of many others, long gone

my own ongoing
waking life, too, often more like a dream,
bookended by all
the memories of those who’ve gone before into
that deep night, about which dreams can only guess

WINDOW ON TO RAINBOWS (photomorph) & ON PIONEERING (tanka dream series) by Roswila

ON PIONEERING

did I read somewhere
or simply dream it, long ago,
that an emotion
(at its most basic) is saying “Don’t just
stand (or sit or lie) there, do something!”

that an emotion,
like each of these milling dream colors,
rises or bursts in us,
a pioneer agitating at the locked gates
of the fortresses we make of our selves

“Come,” it says, pounding
like a beating heart on the loose,
“do you see where I’m
going? Do you know what you’re rejecting
if you don’t look my color in the face?”

[three tanka on a dream of 6-10-19. I’ve mentioned here many times how infrequently I dream in color. And, even when I do, it’s usually only of one color. Last night's dreams – as far as I recall – were the most color-loaded ones I’ve ever had. So much so that I don't recall any other details of those dreams. Just the visuals of color, color, color. Mostly in patches and swatches, and hanging in the air like variegated post-it notes. Photomorph “Window On To Rainbows” (6-28-09 2988v8[2]) by Roswila]

THE ONLY CONSTANT IS CHANGE (photo) & HERE (OR THERE) (dream tanka series) by Roswila

HERE (OR THERE)

no escape in dreams
anymore, flying into the sky,
released from the debts
gravity imposes and even
of the demands of wings

nor even down here,
in this basement co-op grocery,
spreading like a huge
banquet, so brightly lit one’s
eyes water as if one were crying

here there’s no freedom
to be anymore, either, if there ever was,
except at great cost;
yet more tenacious than flying wingless, the fantasy
clings: here one could be both at home and safe

[three tanka encapsulating the memories of many old dreams, and recounting one recent one, written 6-8-19. The recent one is about the grocery. I’ve also had similarly themed ones like it before. And I’ve had many dreams over the decades of flying, wingless and free, but haven’t had one in more years than I can recall. Interesting this desire to escape would surface so strongly at a time when I’m working quite hard at embracing and dealing with whatever’s on my plate at any given time. LOL! The desire to escape needs to be embraced, too, ey? Photo “The Only Constant Is Change” (2-16-16 010v2) by Roswila]
