CENTERLESS (photomorph) & THE BLACK HOLE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

THE BLACK HOLE

the black hole careening
through self, begging an insert
to fill it, to help it achieve
a necessary centering: like one
of those small red plastic records
they played as children, the bright
yellow center insert filling
the emptiness in the middle
that would otherwise throw it
off balance on a turntable
made for other sorts of records,
and the scratchy happy
songs it offered way off key

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

THE SEARCH FOR A TRUE PINK (photomorph) & SUBMERSIBLE (dream prose poem) by Roswila

SUBMERSIBLE

the obviously highly privileged
young blonde white woman,
holds up a military submersible;
it’s been painted a pale, pearlescent
pink and has bows and gewgaws
dangling from it; she proudly
declares to the festival gathering:
“See what can be done! Here’s
a re-purposed submarine!”
applause rises from the crowd
on which murmurs of praise surf
brightly like ocean foam; “Now,”
the dreamer thinks sardonically,
“can she or anyone else find a way
to re-purpose the minds of those
humans who want only
to go to war?”

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN (photomorph) & WHERE IS EVERYBODY (dream based prose poem) by Roswila

WHERE IS EVERYBODY

the toddler girl simply will not be warned off
walking so close to traffic, no matter how I call
out to her from my distant perch on a small hill;
cupping my hands around my mouth, I warn her
even more stridently, as a young man on a motor
bike speeds right by her, the wind of his near hit
ballooning her little powder blue skirt, just as she
fades away like a water color painting exposed
too long to sunlight; then I see an even bigger threat
on the horizon: a looming pyrocumulus cloud, rising
above a mansion fire that’s spreading rapidly across
the surrounding fields and into the old forest trees;
my male friend and I run pel mel from the wide-
ranging fire danger to the ocean; we jump in
from the dock hoping to claim one of the small
dark oval floating platforms and that there will be
room enough on it for others to join us as well;
I’m distinctly puzzled to note that all of the several
movable but paddleless platforms lurching on
the ocean’s surface are empty:
where is everybody else?
