EXPECTANT SHADOWS (photo) & HILLARY'S A HILL (dream narrative) by Roswila

HILlARY'S* A HILL

Hillary's a hill all by herself:
hugely pregnant and seemingly
going into labor; her husband panics,
which she finds amusing,
especially as her contractions
turn out to be Braxton-Hicks;**
she leaves him in the reception area
while she ambles placidly around
the large office of a business
owned and run by two women;
when she goes into labor for real,
her husband manages, albeit
with great effort, not to panic this time;
Hil waddles off to tell the female bosses
that she's in labor and has a bit
of a time getting their attention;
their attitude appearing to be that
whatever is going on, Hil will
handle it, doesn't she always?

[narrative on a dream of 7-28-16. I'd listened to *HilLary Clinton's nomination acceptance speech at the DNC only hours before dreaming this. **Also known as false labor. I couldn't find a viable way to weave in lyrics for the song that I was "singing," here and there, throughout this dream: "All of Me." Photo "Expectant Shadows" (10-24-09 7948v2) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

WISHING FOR WINGS (photomorph) & STRANGE BED FELLOWS (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

STRANGE BED FELLOWS

biting my forearm
the large grey pigeon hangs on
but there's no pain or
penetration as I try to shake off
this thoroughly unwanted bed fellow

sigh, I guess this is what I get for wishing
my usual good dream recall would return:

a big winged rat demanding
my undivided attention

[a tanka and two 2-liners on a dream of 7-28-16. Re: dream recall -- mine's been rather poor for a couple weeks, which does happen once in a while. However, this is the second episode in recent months and that was beginning to concern me. Enough that I did some googling on dream recall and the aging brain. Seems there are various theories on why dream recall does appear to decline with age. Too much to go into here, but a couple made sense to me. Now I find myself determined to counteract them. Smile. As to the dream itself, well, it's one of those many layered ones that I've only begun to explore. BTW, "winged rats" is an expression sometimes used for the street pigeons in New York City (where I'm from). Photomorph "Wishing for Wings" (7-18-16 002v2) by Roswila]

OUT OF BALANCE (photomorph) & THE EQUATION (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE EQUATION

on the left side of the equation a large Excel sheet*
filled in and proofread, twice over

on the right side, two unclear items that it's quickly
learned are placed in reverse: what's on the left
should be on the right and vice versa

how can this be balanced? yet, the total weight
of those two right hand items is the same
relative to the neatly produced Excel sheet
on the left, whether in or out of order

could it be that the order in which things
appear is just that: an appearance,
and as such, may deceive and mislead

what matters being the solution,
as revealed by the total heft of things
on either side of the equation

[free verse poem on a dream of 7-21-16. *Excel sheet: "Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program included in the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Spreadsheets present tables of values arranged in rows and columns that can be manipulated mathematically using both basic and complex arithmetic operations and functions." I should note that I never did learn this program very well in my working years; I'd dread it when a job would require the use of it. Mostly, I'd say, because I'm nigh on to a math phobe (even when a program is doing the actual calculating). I'm not sure how I feel about this dream/poem but it's good to have it to post today. There's something cooling about it and I'm dealing with some hot emotional stuff this morning. Eh, who'm I kidding? I'm more often a mess these days than not. Though I hasten to add life is still really good. I'm actually learning not to become unbalanced when I find myself in widely different emotional spaces about different aspects of my life, all at the same time. Hm, that seems to go back to this dream/poem. Photomorph "Out of Balance" (6-12-16 001v2d) by Roswila]

CAN TWILIGHT BE FAR BEHIND? (photo) & PRAYER TO QUIETUDE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PRAYER TO QUIETUDE

please take me to the place from which you arise
on such shy wings I find that you've been waiting
here all along right behind me

let me be blanketed in you like a sated lover,
content to soak up naked silence
from every fold

and when you're gone, leaving me
exposed again to bedlam,
I'll not despair, for I know you'll always return,
like the embrace of this boundless
twilight horizon

HOVERING (photo) & THE GLASS CEILING (dream based free verse poem) by Roswila

THE GLASS CEILING*

the exact minute: 7:17 a.m.
and she's still hovering,
somehow she knows
she'll have to plummet
through that glass ceiling now
if she ever wants to release
the essential energies
of Soul, Force, and Ice
back into her life

without a second's pause,
she takes the plunge,
shards of glass flying around her
like rapidly cut diamonds
while she alights,
a dark and wingless
self-rescuing angel

A VISIT FROM THE LIGHT (photo) & THE PICTURE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE PICTURE

the picture she's so attached to
needs reframing, and re-hanging
in softer, less direct light

she gets to work as snatches
from the old song "I wish
I didn't love you so"*
float through her mind, a rather
puzzling association or maybe
just a bit of stray mental static

"...I should be smiling by now
with a new tender friend..."
the song goes on as she fits the photo
neatly into a newer frame that just
happened to be in her closet,
and starts to look for a place
out of the window light to hang it

the singer proclaims "...yet when I try,
something in my heart says no...",
even as she whispers a "yes"
to the wall space she's chosen
for the reframed picture

the song goes on "... and that's why I
wish I didn't love you so...,"
accompanied by scuffling noises
as she hangs her reframed photo
in its new place

the music's over, but not her sad thoughts
as she stands, hugging herself
and checking out her handiwork:
we may change its context
and view it in a different light,
but the picture
remains the same
