GREEN SURGE (photomorph) & SLIM CORDS (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SLIM CORDS

slim cords in a vast variety
of hues drape horizontally
in the air before her like loosely
hung laundry lines; a mysterious
pair of hands brings three of the cords
forward, plucking them around
and between the many others
as if weaving, a voice declaring
“See, these three are each a shade
of green …” and she rejoices as here
are the materials for her on-going project:
to construct a dwelling out of green cord;
before she can even start to work with this trio
of grass and emerald and olive, a young man
reaches rudely around her from behind,
tugging on other cords, forcing her green group
to slip out of her grip and mix in again
with all the other color cords; he quickly pulls
three different ones from the mélange ordering
“Look! Here are the greens with which to do
your construction work;” “Green, my ass”
she mumbles under her breath, each of his
trio is anything but green: what sort of dwelling
could possibly be built from this blatant lie
that demands she feign color blindness
and go demurely along

[free verse poem on a dream of 7-3-19. I was reminded of the fairy tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes” as I wrote this. Not an uncommon theme in my dreams over the decades. If you want to read a slew of info on associations for the color green, just google for the symbolism of green. I was most struck by its association with growth and the heart chakra. There are several levels to this dream, so I’ll leave it at that. BTW, I saw the green cords selected by the mystery hands, in their green shades (somewhat unusual for me to dream in color), but not the colors of those the man picked. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

DIVERSE DIVERS (photomorph) & POOLSIDE DOZE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

POOLSIDE DOZE

a vehicle’s engine grumbles
rumbling through her chest,
a deep baritone voice demanding
she open her eyes and pay attention,
or far more than this one delivery
truck will pass her by

[non-dream free verse poem written 7-1-19. Meh, but it’s all I’ve got to offer today. I hasten to add it’s the writing that’s “meh,” IMHO, not the point I found myself trying to make. Hm, that’s probably the problem: when I try to make a point the poem will most often allude me. When I let the poem kinda, sorta write itself, things tend to go better. P.S. of 7-3-19: I also think that the word "heavily" in the next to the last line, has the wrong connotation for what I mean to imply. Maybe I'll think on that and make a change in the future. Let that particular truck pass me by for now. :-) P.P.S. later on 7-3-19: as I was preparing to leave my rooms for a shopping trip, "one delivery truck" just popped into my mind to replace "heavily laden truck." It was so obvious when it hit me that I wondered why it took so long to occur to me. I'd be more concerned it's due to my aging brain if I didn't know from decades of experience that my poems are rarely completely finished. With edits sometimes occurring to me many, many years later. CHOPPY SEAS (photomorph) & THE RIDE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE RIDE

that acquaintance of mine sure has balls!
she’s riding that weird, large black wheel
in the pool with the greatest of glee, even
as it tumbles her into the deep end, over
and over; I must admit I’m perfectly
content to rest up here on the balcony on
my mattress, letting my envy dissolve in
the reality of what she’s doing; two men
at pool’s edge briefly watch this water play,
one of them an aging handsome man I have
an enduring crush on; as they turn heel
to leave, the other one points up at me
over his shoulder and asks the one I like
so much if he’s talked with me yet; as my
crush says “No,” my hope rises in waves
like that on the pool’s surface and when he
starts walking toward me I nearly plotz; but
will I never learn? all he wants is to point
out I’d missed a correction in his fiction
writing he’d recently had me copy edit, that
“sue the marriage” is not grammatically
proper; I agree with a blush I try to fight
back, hastening to add that there are folk,
however, who think of any legal action as
“suing,” whether that’s a correct usage or
not, especially in the case of that line in
his creative writing which was referencing
a possible divorce; he starts to turn away
and clearly changes his mind, bending to
lay an arm across my prone body right at
my hips, with a definite look of invitation;
omigosh, my imagination floods instantly
as if I’d just been dunked by that odd
water wheel: does this old lady have
even one drop of energy, nay, call a
spade a spade, courage left for a ride

[free verse poem on a dream of 6-30-19. Another blush: that "crush" was Kevin Sorbo (at about my age, which is 75), star of that ancient T.V. series "Hercules." I really enjoyed that show, and its ilk such as "Xena: Warrior Princess." Photomorph “Choppy Seas” (1-2-18 007vm[2]) by Roswila]

YOUR BRAIN ON BLAME (photomorph) & BLAME (non-dream mixed format poem) by Roswila

BLAME

all too easy to
blame the object at hand,
anything’s better
than accepting one’s incapacity,
one’s own deep brokenness

it’s this vacuum dust cup that works
in a maddeningly counterintuitive way

it’s you who just doesn’t catch
my drift no matter what I throw at you

and this desperation is not mine,
it belongs to the crazed world

[non-dream tanka capped by three two-liners, written 6-30-19. BTW, that vacuum dust cup is truly a terror. No matter how many times I’ve left notes for myself about how its several pieces fit back together in the machine, it all goes awry. I swear it’s possessed!
