"untitled" (photo) & THE HITCH (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE HITCH

preaching intently
he stands in the rubble
city under attack

she listens as
behind him her home is hit
a rain of bullets

her silent flinching a brief hitch in his sermon

[dreamku pair capped by a monoku on a dream, written and posted in November of 2009, re-posted 4-20-19. I'd started on what I figured would be a lengthy search to find something to re-post today as I’ve been coming up dry on dreams again. (Not unusual for days around a full moon, actually.) But was surprised when I stumbled on this really old one after going through only a few posts. It all too aptly echoes my current basic feelings about my life. That painful and impossible gap between the people one is closest to and one’s self. And (if I may wax self-pitying) others lack of awareness or weird interpretation of, what is really going on, much less what may need to be done. No matter how obvious it all may be to one's self, even should one take yet one more bound to fail shot and speak out. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

THE ISLANDS OBSCURATUS (photo) & WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE (mixed format, non-dream poem) by Roswila

WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE

there’s no scooping one’s
broken life back up from its stream,
as the adage goes:
“That’s water under the bridge,”
no matter how long one stares and broods

there’s not even any knowing which droplet,
nay, which atom or quantum leap amounts to what

boulders left behind by past floods and debris flows
line the bed like the remains of nightmare creatures,

alternately presenting their distorted pates for viewing,
and hiding as if in ambush beneath the spring crush

not even one’s eyes
can get, much less maintain, the barest grasp
on any of this:
the constant chewing over
of an already ruined landscape

[non-dream, 3 two-liners bookended by tankas, written 4-17-19. Although this does not explain my moodiness entirely, it does explain its increasing intensity: there’s a full moon due in on Friday. Photo “The Islands Obscuratus” (11-29-16 017v3[2]) by Roswila]

RUNNING ON EMPTY (photomorph) & "if people dole out..." (non-dream senryu) by Roswila

if people dole out
too much pain? embrace them anyway!
porcupines hook up

[senryu written 4-16-19. Not really liking much of my writing these days. Neither the writing itself nor the content. Ah well, hopefully, I’ll get back to at least enjoying my mediocre work a little bit again, and even (here’s a thought!) writing some better stuff. CUPPING THE LIGHT (photo) & "whether brimming with ..." (a Taiga Tarot* Tanka) by Roswila

whether brimming with
an unknown brew or the sweetness
of a new moment,
we raise our cups to each other
and to life in a grateful toast

[Tanka to appear on my Taiga Tarot card, the Three of Cups (which may go through some editing when I try to fit it on its design) written 4-10-19. I have not yet made the simple line drawing to go with this 3C. *Click here to see my full designs for other cards I’ve developed so far in the Taiga Tarot and what it’s about, on the blog dedicated to it. I don’t often post designs and/or tankas I develop for The Taiga Tarot on this dreams&poetry blog. However, all of the cards in The Taiga Tarot have been (and will be) dream-based in some way. In this case, I was thinking about that dream I posted here on April 9, 2019 (THE SPECIAL EVENT), which has three women in it. I then recalled that the 3C in many Tarot decks has three women holding cups up in a toast. Here’s the 3C in the well-known Rider/Waite/Smith Tarot:

And I realized a Taiga Tarot card was knocking at the door to my imagination.

DAWN CHORUS (photo) & "traffic sounds whirring ..." (non-dream senryu? haiku?) by Roswila

traffic sounds whirring
wake me and joint pain sings out
it must be near dawn

[haiku, or maybe a more appropriate term would be senryu, written 4-13-19. Here's a simple explanation from the internet, of the difference between these two forms:
Senryu is a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in construction: three lines with 17 or fewer [weighted or stressed syllables] in total. However, senryu tend to be about human foibles while haiku tend to be about nature, and senryu are often cynical or darkly humorous while haiku are more serious. IMHO, the most operative word in that quote is “tend.” Sometimes it’s nigh on to impossible to distinguish a senryu from a haiku. As with the case in point.
