SKY TRELLIS (photomorph) & JULIET'S COMPLAINT (free verse dream inspired poem) by Roswila

JULIET'S COMPLAINT

stuck on this damn balcony, again!
the romance just ain't makin' it
up this far up anymore

I've almost forgotten what your voice
sounds like, up close and personal, and your
hot breath will never reach my breasts
or belly from down there where you stand,
mumbling to me through the twilight
all those loving, seductive words
that the lucky breezes get to
carry away with them

so, you whom I would invite into my private chambers
in a blink if you stood toe to toe with me, dispense
with all the talking and climb that strong old vine
gracing the wall, up to my balcony and bed at last

the time for initiatory heating's past

we're in danger of burning out
before we even start

[dream inspired (as opposed to dream based) free verse poem written 9-1-16 (with several revisions since). Although there is a dream kernel in this poem, it was a tiny, vague fragment of a much larger forgotten dream. Which fragment I now no longer even remember. Also, the Romeo & Juliet scenario came totally from my waking mind as I began drafting the poem. Of course, it is possible my choice of that famous balcony scene is more closely related to the dream than I know since I can't recall any of the dream now, five months later. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

NOM DE PLUME (photomorph) & HE SAYS (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

HE SAYS

he says something about
leaving these two pages in
the approximate middle
of the book she's making
blank,
that everything's not written,
nor will it ever all be
written

she tries to defend herself
as if his hesitant comments
are some sort of
accusation,
(or at the very
least implying she could
be doing something
better)
by showing him how carefully
she's thought it all out and
executed each new turning
of a full page with
care

but as she flips through the
pages of her handmade book,
each filled to bursting
with words but for
these central empty
two,
she finally gets it:

he just wants her to leave
room for the possibilities of
him

MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING (photomorph) & DESPITE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

DESPITE

despite their well-earned reputations
for pain and ugliness, the ghosts and shadows
of what might have been, surprise me tonight
from around an unforeseen turn of thought
with a soft, sad beauty, vague shimmerings
shaped out of nothing, as if by moonlight's
forgiving fingers

SKY WRITING (photomorph) & PIECES (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

PIECES

as I meander beneath nearly bare
branches -- afloat in some other time,
some other place -- pieces of dried bark
and dead leaves land on my crisp new
baseball cap in a little staccato dance:
ah, yes, you have my full attention now
trees, and tell me, should I attempt
to translate these intricate hieroglyphs
you've written across the cloudless blue sky,
or simply embrace this grounding wonderment

WRITING ON THE WIND (photomorph) & "empty blue pen..." (non-dream monoku) by Roswila

empty blue pen lying on the blank white page

[non-dream monoku (one line haiku) written 1-30-17. BTW, as with haiku, monoku are not one sentence, one thing. They have a break in them; a comparison or contrast between two things. The fun with monoku is to have the one line be readable in two different ways. Here, empty can be read to apply to the pen. But imagine a break after empty, and one sees/feels an expanded scene. Maybe it's the writer who's feeling as empty as that page? BTW, that "two ways" aspect is difficult to write into a monoku, at least for me. It only happens rarely and almost accidentally as I'm paring my writing way down into a monoku. (LOL! I always get a kick from how much I tend to say about monoku, which in themselves are only one short line.) Photomorph "Writing on the Wind" (5-18-15 016v7a) by Roswila]
