TAKING A POUNDING (photomorph) & "J'accuse, I blurt out..." (non-dream senryu) by Roswila

“J’accuse!” I blurt out
at the rise of more cruel images
memory’s dark side

[might be called a senryu, but probably it’s just a little poem in a similar format; non-dream, written 5-2-19. J'accuse: “French, literally ‘I accuse,’ phrase made famous by Emile Zola in a public letter attacking the irregularities of the Dreyfus trial (published Jan. 13, 1898),” quote from internet. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

DREAMING UP NEW ROSES (photomorph) & DREAM EGG (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

DREAM EGG

she dreams slipping out of herself, and walking easily
into her cold bathroom, leaving her to happily oversleep
in the warmth of her messy bed; but the ease with which
she rises and walks, quickly peels away the ruse, no matter
her dreaming mind takes a crack at it several times in a row:
her dream self sliding up and out of her sleeping body
into the day she wants desperately to avoid … no,
this is only a dream, she’s not known such quick
and painless rising nor such willingness to face
her day in many, many years; time to bring
her broken body and unwilling waking mind
along with her, up from this soft,
sheltering nest,
and break the illusory egg
of this wishful dream

GOING UP IN FLAMES (photomorph) & THEY'RE FINGERS (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THEY’RE FINGERS

so absorbed she
barely notes her usual hobble
as she walks the path
eyeing little flames of rose buds
and glorious full conflagrations

each time she lowers her camera,
she raises it again to take another photo

a man’s voice whispers in her mind “And
yet you don’t have time to spend with me?”

“Hey,” she tosses off as she snaps another photo
“my pix are fingers, a way this blind woman sees”

[a tanka capped by three two-liners on a dream of 4-30-19. Yesterday I finally got a new camera ready that I've had but not set up for use. It's now in my purse awaiting it's first run. Clearly this dream was influenced by my doing this. I'd be thoroughly embarrassed to admit how long this new camera's been sitting around, only needing my attention (such as charging the battery, and reading the accompanying booklet so I'd have some idea what the various icons mean). I'm hopeful -- but no means sure -- that this new camera will produce better photos that I don't feel the need to edit so heavily. (I enjoy using failed representational pix as templates for abstracts. But there are times I really want the original, straightforward shot.) The camera I've been using for a few years now has a wide-angle lens which I've settled for, but never been delighted with. Photomorph “Going Up In Flames” (8-5-09 5009v4[3]) by Roswila]

DROWNED (photomorph) & THE LECTURE (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE LECTURE

what did I forget?
a lively dream I was too lazy to grab pen
and pad to write down?
yeah, I think so and the only dream I can
recall now lectures me, on and on:

“Watch out even for thrift stores, Patty,” said in a tone
my stepmother used on me when trying to curb me,

“each individual price may be incredibly low, but walk
out having bought it all and the cost is way too high”

[a tanka capped by a pair of two-liners on a dream of 4/27/19. This dream applies at a few different levels. Most obviously carrying on with the theme of being very careful with how I spend money. (See previous post here.) But in an equally important way it applies to what I buy about people. And more so, what I buy that they tell me -- both literally and by their behavior toward me -- about myself. Photomorph “Drowned” 7-5-09 (3326v8c[3]) by Roswila]
