BLAST OFF (photomorph) & "the beautiful box ... " (2 old dreamku) by Roswila

the beautiful box
may blow up in my face
dare I try the code

destroy or unlock this puzzle box is in my lap

[Both dreamed and written in October 2006, the second one made into a monoku today (from the usual three-line form). These are from the first and oldest of those ancient hand-written notebooks of my dream haiku/dreamku I’ve been posting from here recently. These two dream haiku were not originally posted as a pair. I wasn’t doing much posting of dream haiku/dreamku in pairs or larger groupings in those days. Photomorph “Blast Off” Screenshots-2 2-06-19[13] by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

THE ASSAULT (photomorph) & "he says the invasion ..." (re-post of old dreamku) by Roswila

he says the invasion
is for her own good
he must be Martian!

[dream haiku written in 2006 on a dream from years earlier, slightly tweaked today. It’s another of those from current reviewing of ancient hand-written notebooks dedicated to my dream haiku/dreamku. (Scroll through recent posts for others.) I chose this one because it reflects somewhat a dream I had a couple of nights ago, in which I was sexually assaulted by a family member. Sigh. The more things change (and heal), the more they stay the same and puzzle the behoozitz outta me. I suppose if I understand unconscious memory as a huge library (which I do at times) through which the sleeping mind wanders, I’m going to wind up stumbling across some really old memories in my dreams. Yeah, I’d prefer to think this is the case, than that the recent dream is actually about some current relationship. But the latter is the most likely way to understand it. Sigh again … Photomorph “The Assault” (Archival Old Pix 4-20-09 v4a[3]) by Roswila]

WONKY WHEELS (photomorph) & WHEEL OF (MIS)FORTUNE (mixed format dream poem)

WHEEL OF (MIS)FORTUNE

around it goes: loneliness undermines resolve,
and experience shores it up yet again

she can’t shake the pull
of that woman’s reach toward her:
untrustworthy friend

THE CAULDRON (original Tarot card design) & TWO FOR THE RECORD (pair of dream haiku) by Roswila

TWO FOR THE RECORD

dark stirrings the future brews in the cauldron

dream vision: the frail
old woman from the future
implores my help

[a dream monoku and a kinda, sorta dream haiku, both written in 2006 on dreams that were most probably older than that. Actually, that first one – the monoku, i.e. a one-line haiku – was not in monoku form when initially written, but put into it a couple of years later. And I say “kinda, sorta” about that second dream haiku as it hasn’t ever felt very “haiku-ish” to me. Enough critiquing. I’ve chosen these two from the on-going review I’m doing of those three ancient dreamku notebooks of mine I’ve been posting from here, for a reason. I’m struck by that sense of concern about the future in both of them. Especially, as I am rapidly becoming that “frail old woman,” not to mention that our world is in crisis (climate, and otherwise). Additionally, I was reminded a couple of days ago, in a different context, of a Tarot card I designed years back that I call The Cauldron. Its most basic meaning is “That out of which everything comes, and that to which it returns.” The image at the top of this post is an old sketch of mine for that card. BTW, when I say “designed” I mean from scratch. The idea of and image for this card are mine. The Cauldron Tarot card does not exist in any deck but one I have made or am developing. FAMINE (photomorph) & "chewed out..." (old dream haiku) by Roswila

chewed out
a naked woman curled atop
the dinner table

[written in July 2006, but based on a dream of many years earlier found in my old journal notes. I’m continuing to go through those ancient dream haiku notebooks of mine that I mentioned in yesterday’s post. I’ve always liked this dreamku; gives me a little laugh every time I come across it. A sort of wry laugh, of course. For this re-posting, I made two tiny tweaks: the last line is now the first, and what had been “on” is now “atop.” (That second edit has to do more with the rhythm of the line than anything else.) This is one of those ‘kus that illustrates what I most love about dreams: how they offer concrete images for commonly used expressions. I.e., we use an expression, say, “I got chewed out” without really thinking what that’s literally saying. This dream makes that clear: chewed like food, man! There’s also that woman’s nakedness which adds another level to the dream. Beyond an immediate association to the idea of her now being nothing more than bare bones after that chewing out. Enough! I’ve often noted here how I tend to write much more on tiny poems than on the lengthy ones. Putting the meat back on the bones, so to speak.

OLD DREAM HAIKU NOTEBOOK COVER & "my brother builds ..." (dreamku) by Roswila

my brother builds
a door into the ceiling
(I am artistic)

[a dreamku of mine from 2004. I should explain that I’ve been going through three small spiral notebooks of mine from many years ago. All of them filled with hand written, dream-based haiku I wrote. Some of the source dreams, and even in many cases the composing of the ‘kus, go as far back as the late 1990’s. I recently recalled that I’d not used all of them on my blog. Also, that when I did this same sort of review of these three historical notebooks years back, I found many dreamku that I wanted to tweak and then re-post. Which explains the age of this dreamku. I wasn’t even calling my dream haiku “dreamku” back when I wrote it. The odd thing is, it appears I never posted it. (The books are a trip to wander through, filled with edits and scratchy notes about where the dreamku were posted.) I do recognize it’s one of my more puzzling dreamku and am hoping that my addition last night of those parentheses makes the juxtaposition clearer. That puzzling aspect may be why I had not chosen to post it in earlier run-throughs of these ancient notebooks. However, clear or not, I’m choosing to put it up today as a sort of P.S. to my post of yesterday in which my deceased brother appeared. (The anniversary of his birthday recently has really hit me hard, hasn’t it? BTW, at the time of this ‘ku’s source dream he was still alive.) What strikes me is, here again, there’s a looking up. As there is at the end of yesterday’s dream writing. And I think that even back in 2004, that’s the dream aspect that is important. Gotta stop here, could go on and on as to why. IMAGE ABOVE by Roswila: Reposting of the scan of the cover of the spiral notebook in which this dreamku was written in 2004, the pix and bits of text at bottom were pasted on it by me (over time, i.e., one by one as I stumbled across them in magazines, etc.), this is from the oldest of my three ancient dreamku notebooks.]
