WATCHING HER STEP (photomorph) & BEYOND FRESH (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

BEYOND FRESH

all of the tall, narrow panels
of mixed media art
have been judged losers,
every.single.blesséd.panel!

now, just in terms of numbers,
how can this be?
accident alone should give
at least one of the many dozens
of hanging tapestries a win
(or show, or place... or even
an honorable mention...)

much less when one considers
that nothing even vaguely like
this endless coruscating display
of collage/painting/poetry-in-motion/
winking-light/press-the-button-song
has ever hit the art scene before

it's clearly time for those who
would judge to peel away the veils
of aesthetics and assumptions
clinging to their eyes
like cataracts

something beyond fresh
(smell the paint? it's not even
dry yet!) is in town ...

(is always in town)

[free verse poem on a dream of 1-29-16. This is less about art (though that subject is obviously included) than about life as a whole. And specifically (do I really need to state it?) how I need to look at things much more often. Photomorph "Watching Her Step" (12119v3d) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

VITELLUS (photomorph) & SILLY GOOSE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SILLY GOOSE

what a silly goose!
she thinks I'm laughing at her
when as I told her I'm enjoying
her resemblance to a teal butterfly
in that new dress

and I keep reassuring her that I'll
keep the secret that she's incubating
a child (good news as her other child
was a sunny delight to all as she grew)
in a shiny, chicken sized egg,
here, in the home
we've shared for ages
despite our incompatibility

ah well, there's no changing
some people's minds: they will believe
what they will believe
and I need to attend to my breakfast

even as I cut a hard boiled egg
in half I realize with a gasp
what I've done: it's her egg!

and there's nothing I can do now
but decide whether to own
up to this act of mine
or hide the evidence

in any case, it's been like letting
that goose in the fable live on,
and killing her golden egg

[free verse poem on a dream of 1-28-16. I feel forewarned I'm about to do something self-destructive. Like watching a train wreck just about to happen and feeling hopeless to stop it. Sigh. (BTW, I do know what it's about.) Photomorph "Vitellus" (7-9-09 3579v6) by Roswila]

EMBELLISHED (photomorph) & LIFE AS A SOAP OPERA, or The Big Lie (dream writing) by Roswila

LIFE AS A SOAP OPERA
(or: The Big Lie)

it's immediately clear to me
that the mother of his baby's
not that prostitute he must have paid
to say so, but this patient of his
(Dr. Big Miracle) whose life
he claims to have saved

as a major character on this soap
the writers will have to at some point
explain why he lied, but it will be a huge
challenge to write it so that the fans
suspend disbelief in whatever excuse
they cook up, the lie's a whopper
for this wildly popular character,
and not defensible in any way that I
can imagine, and not only that, but "who's
the real mommy/daddy's" such a cliché!
(and I'm quite surprised my fellow fans
haven't tumbled to his lie yet)

I suppose they could always
write him off (send him on a mission
of mercy to a foreign country,
or even kill him with some disease
du jour -- that one would generate
a host of Emmy worthy performances
by fellow actors) but they will have
to deal with it, one way or another,
for no matter how inconvenient
the truth always outs

TOXIC BLOOM (photomorph) & THE VINE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE VINE

the dream image inches into
her exhausted consciousness
with the advent of evening,

a night climbing vine triggered
by dark's return, rising up
the sheer brick wall of resistance,

poking its sticky tendrils into every
nook and cranny along the way,
and opening its noxious blossoms

well, she resolves, she's not going
to let it get to her, it can hang
on this wall until the weight
of its on going self-recreation
crumbles the bricks

she's moving elsewhere and leaving
no forwarding address, and should
the vine's seeds manage to catch up with
her there, she'll simply move on
again, a nouveau nomad

although she knows there's nothing
permanent in this life, serial
repetition comes far to close
to forever for comfort

DISPERSAL (photomorph) & HIDE 'n SEEK (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

HIDE 'n SEEK

there's no catching one
and unless she wants to stay "It"
she should simply quit
and walk away from the dreams that
scattered every which way with morning

even this metaphor of a childhood game
catches nothing, falling like a hook through fog

unlike back then when she could at least make out
what it was that she was aiming to tag

ROSE ARASBESQUE (photo) & THE REAL (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE REAL

a real rose, yes,
that's what it is: real
I keep finding that out
each time I touch it to make
another attempt at editing

neither it's shadows
nor shapes, nor red give way
under Photoshop
hm, there is that concept
called consensus reality

which would make this rose
a consensus of one
from its multitude of the possible

my perceptions and imaginings
just more ephemeral filters
like the morning light

PASTICHE (photomorph) & ASKEW (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

ASKEW

despite her hard work,
the greeting card designs print askew,
oh, her pix are cool
but her words, oy, the words show up
in all the wrong places, as do the folds

why waste all that thought and effort, though,
maybe she should make a collage of them all

who'd buy the cards anyway, even if perfect
(as if perfect can ever really be obtained)

and the nature of collages leaves more room
for quirks and accidents (or so she'd like to think)
