A DIFFERENT ANGLE (photo) & SEE HOW (dream tanka pair) by Roswila

SEE HOW

framing, and framing
yet again, to find the right one
large, small, square, or round
the shape that holds a photo
its crucial finishing touch

look! see how a wide
frame completely rebalances
this one's composition:
a lost, small bright shape becoming
the light giving heart in its darkness

[tanka pair on a dream of 10-8-15. On recalling this dream I immediately remembered having used the psychological technique of "reframing" earlier that morning without realizing it. Though I was clear at the time that I'd completely changed -- in a most positive way -- how I hold a particular aspect from my very early childhood. As I think on it now, doing that instinctive reframing may very well have been precipitated by this dream. Although I hadn't yet recalled the dream, it's clear the concept of reframing was active in my less conscious mind. (BTW, reframing is "the conceptual and/or emotional viewpoint in relation to which a situation is experienced and placing it in a different frame that fits the 'facts' of a concrete situation equally well, thereby changing its entire meaning.") There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

ASHES (photomorph) & SNOOZE FACTOR (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SNOOZE FACTOR

first, a caveat: I arrived with flames
whooshing from my brain, so it's entirely
possible my expectations were too high

but still, what an impossibly boring
meeting! each one of us women coping
with it differently, most denying
the intense snooze factor all together

for example, one tall, heavy woman
avoids acknowledging the stultifying
atmosphere by constantly worrying
about her looks: although quite pretty
she's convinced she's ugly

and the woman next to her picks up
the theme, giving it a turn,
certain that her ethnicity
puts everyone off when in truth
most are drawn to her colorful
differences, while on the other side
of the room a theme of handicaps
spreads, like gossip minus titillation

the mix of boredom and denial that fills
the huge room has long since smothered
the flames in my head, and in order to maintain
any liveliness at all I start scooting around
the crowded meeting room with my walker

but I use it like an old geezer's skateboard,
kneeling on the seat with my left leg,
shoving off with my right,
and making motorcycle noises
with my lips as I steer it deftly down
the aisles and between wandering women

at last! something that genuinely engages me
and even many of the other gals who laugh
raucously as I roll on by ... yikes! my knees
will not be happy tomorrow, but it's
worth it to lift the suffocating mix
of boredom and denial, if only for a little while

[free verse poem on a dream of 10-7-15. LOL! Think maybe my dream world is advising me to lighten up? To bring a sense of humor to things more often? To exercise, in whatever way I can, no matter how limited? And those questions only top the list this dream offers me to examine. BTW, this is the second time in a few days I've dreamed about using a walker. I do have one, but use it only to haul heavy things. Such as laundry and cartons I have to pick up from the front office. Though I have used it a couple of times in years past when an arthritic knee or foot joint was made even more painful by an injury. Photomorph "Ashes" (9-22-15 023v7) by Roswila]

SUB ROSA (photo) & THE DECISION (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE DECISION

I open the door
to the closet on impulse: Brad Pitt!
well, who's more amused,
this actor I've not seen in ages
or me, this old, still curious gal?

"Hey, Brad, Angelina's out here at the party, too,"
I say, but he seems rather content in his solitude

hung briefly on the hinge of decision I wonder
should I out him, then just softly shut the door

READ BETWEEN THE LINES (photomorph) & THE SURVEY (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE SURVEY

even though my thought of "Judas!"
may be a bit strong given
he insists we both be transparent,
I still don't know who he is
or where he comes from
and, worst of all,
what he's really after

sensing my defensiveness he tries
to reassure me with another
passionate kiss, during which
I conclude that if there is
a traitor here, it's my body,
as it clamors for more than kisses
from this virtual stranger

but he leaves me to stand
in a puddle of arousal when he pulls
away and continues to ask
questions from the seemingly
endless list penned neatly in black
ink and fastened to his clipboard

now both frustrated and bored
I just want this odd visitor
to be done with his rambling,
intrusive survey, as I cannot
see the back of him soon enough

I BLUSH TO ADMIT (photomorph) & "Filling life's framework..." (dream based tanka) by Roswila

"Filling life's framework
remains the goal," she asserts
then blushes, aware
no one's likely to understand
nor, if they should, to agree

[tanka on a dream of 10-3-15. The words in quotes are verbatim from the little dream. BTW, I got all caught up in whether "or" or "nor" is grammatically correct in that last line. After Googling and not getting a clear answer, I'm sticking with "nor" as it backs up the negative of "no one." I also had quite a time with whether all those commas are needed. But am keeping them if only because the framing of the quotes seems to ask for them in order to be consistent in style. Though I have left out commas that could go at the ends of lines two and four. The line endings themselves do the work of commas, I should think. Photomorph "I Blush to Admit" (8-18-15 004v4b) by Roswila]
