SINGING FROM THE HEART (photomorph) & SONG FOR THE DANCE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

SONG FOR THE DANCE

someone
somewhere will always
think you wrong

accuse you of conceit
or of murdering the moment

but do not stop dancing
do not ever stop dancing,
for neap tides become high,
and new moons, full

keep on singing, singing, singing
from the calm eye of joy
as you spin through this life

and emptiness
will be what fills you
till you ring, ring, ring
like a bell

[free verse poem, based on a dream from November of 2005 and written in January of 2006, the last stanza is verbatim from the dream. I began drafting a new non-dream poem today that went nowhere fast, so decided to open up a folder in my poetry archives at random and pick one to re-post. This was the first I read. It's still an important message for me today. And I do just keep "singing..." new pix and poems every day (a rare day I don't produce new ones). If nothing else, the efforts focus this busy brain someplace else for a while than on pain and difficulties. The images in this poem, though, keep raising questions of inconsistencies for me, then they balance out. Not sure that makes for a fully viable poem, but I'm steting them all, as they are ... the poem's been a lot of years this way. Photomorph "Singing from the Heart" (10-3-11 11324v26) by Roswila; between this blog and my photo blog, this is now the ninth version I've posted from the same old photo ... who's a creature of habit? :-) I'll blame that on being a sun-sign Capricorn ...]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

WHAT GOES AROUND (photomorph) & "dream? reality? ..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

dream? reality?
the sound of tires spinning through rain
in a time of drought

[non-dream haiku written 11-29-18. Heard this late at night, outside my living room window when I was falling asleep in my recliner. Fortunately, it was a reality that was not too much for wild fire burn sites to absorb. At least most of them near where I live. As far as I know there was one bridge wash out by an over-loaded stream with fire debris. But nothing like the awful debris flow of last winter that will take years for large areas of Ventura to recover from. Then again, we have more rain coming tomorrow. And the Holy Fire area, down near L.A. got socked with debris flow yesterday. It's a weird experience to be so grateful for rain and anxious about it at the same time. Photomorph "What Goes Around" (10-3-11 11324v3f) by Roswila; you might want to click on this image to see the details; recognize the old saying the title comes from? "What goes around, comes around"?]

CONCLAVE OF FOREST FAIRIES (photomorph) & DANCE OF THE PIXELS (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

DANCE OF THE PIXELS

pixels dance before her
dreaming eyes,
pixies in a hidden forest
celebration:
she feels privileged
to view
this pre-existing magic
capering like pixies
giving rise
to the photos that fill
the blank black
of the dream
space ...
and her days as well

[free verse poem on a dream of 11-29-18. Yeah, my dreaming -- somewhat lucid (aware one is dreaming) -- mind had fun with the words "pixel" and "pixie." I was tempted to go further once I began drafting this dream poem, and bring in "pixelated" and "pixilated." :-) Photomorph "Conclave of Forest Fairies" (10-3-11 11324v17a) by Roswila]

MELTDOWN (photomorph) & WHAT A FANTASY (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

WHAT A FANTASY

her mother comforts this woman with my sister's
high-falutin name (oh-so-many familial references
in this dream that I even know this as I'm dreaming):
I'm really not happy at all to see either one of these
women out of my past (both recent and deeper), but
especially the daughter, my erstwhile friend and her
waves of demanding expectations that always did and
still do roll off her and over me, even from beneath
her mother's smothering hug; I turn so quickly on my
heel I nearly twist my arthritic ankle but manage
to keep going as I fast as I can away from them both;
the farther I (almost) run, the angrier I get, and it's an
alien kind of anger for me, streaked with frigid veins,
a warning that keeps spreading like cracking ice,
threatening to put out this fiery anger altogether: am I
certain of this burgeoning rage, and of my (dare I say)
right to have it, to let it trail from me like Superman's
cape in the evening breeze? yes, what a fantasy all of
it is anyway: family, friends, comfort, expectation,
demand, running away ... hey, maybe if I really take
in this reality that it's all un-real, I can stop fearing
a resurgence of Kryptonite

AND THE WORLD SPINS ON (photomorph) & A SERE COMFORT (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

A SERE COMFORT

the winter outside's nothing --
even sometimes beautiful --
compared to this winter
in my soul, this worst
of a life time of worsts

self-pity and navel gazing may be obnoxious
but so is the cyclical return of this misery

this conniving haunt that circles, a starving
opportunist that feeds and feeds
at will, yet stays ravenous
for the next time around

this could very well be the last worst
to be suffered through and maybe
no sun will be able to warm my spirit
ever again, but only my old bones,
or rather their dust, cremated as much
by angst as by flame

it's a sere comfort, it is,
at times like these to find myself
holding on to the idea of an inevitable
end to everything: it's no less
a comfort than young Linus's
thread bare blanket

[non-dream free verse poem written 11-27-18. "Linus" is that Charlie Brown cartoon character who's very attached to his blanket. I was told I was, too, as a toddler. Photomorph "And the World Spins On" (10-3-11 11324v18) by Roswila]

DANCE OF THE PALM TREE (photomorph) & PORTRAIT OF A PALM TREE IN LATE NOVEMBER (non-dream tanka) by Roswila

PORTRAIT OF A PALM TREE IN LATE NOVEMBER

a new sword shaped frond
grows straight up, its tip like a
scraggly bottle brush
older fronds beneath, fully unfurled, as they
respond in graceful curves to the earth's pull

SEEKERS (photo) & AN OLD HAND (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

AN OLD HAND

like a trembling old arthritic hand,
the dried wind-blown leaf scrapes
its curled fingers along the cement
walkway, stopping, starting,
stopping again, seeming to seek,
over and over,
what can't be grasped
