There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

BUOYANT (photo) & THE NEW ASSIGNMENT (dream prose poem) by Roswila

THE NEW ASSIGNMENT

there's a new boss lady in this
not fondly recalled office
she worked in decades ago,
though maybe, she thinks, a new
broom really does sweep clean;
however, she's quickly
disabused of that thought
when the boss lady assigns
her work that requires she use
very rusty skills and one she'd
never learned well to begin with,
that miserable Excel computer
program; then a distraction enters
the office space, setting all the staff
abuzz: a well-known and successful
singer/actor, who she instantly sees
would make a perfect closing act
in the showcase for which she's been
charged with producing the programs
and ads; so she takes it upon herself
to approach the handsome singer, hoping
he'll join the production, and feeling both
shy and bold, she asks for just a couple
minutes of his time; at first he hesitates,
clearly thinking she's just another rabid fan;
but then he relents, turning his heavily
lashed eyes on her like dark spotlights,
a new light gleaming there as his full
attention to her kicks in; and a different
hope floats sharply through her, almost
more like a warning: does the show really
need another one of these acts?

LIGHT MOVES (photo) & MAKING A MOVE (dream narrative) by Roswila

MAKING A MOVE

this former soap opera star always
attracted me, but the characters
he played? not so much ... however,
what does his professional resume
have to do with what's going on
now between us? this steamy
yet comfortable connection?

then I think I hear him say he's moving
to North Carolina but as soon as I mumble
"oh no, just my luck" he repeats
his comment and I hear that he's actually
going to the north side of our town,
to which he adds to my surprise
that he wants me to leave with him

as we pack and start the move on foot,
we're accompanied by a small male
acquaintance of ours who although he's
no help with carting things, brings much
energy to our endeavor just with his
bouncy attitude

as we three enter a restaurant from its alley
doorway, I turn to the small man whom I now
recall knowing when I lived in New York City,
asking him how his mobster cousin is

although I'd hesitated to inquire after his somewhat
dangerous cousin, it seemed better to speak of him,
that shining even a brief light on darkness
increases a sense of safety

BRANCHING OUT (photomorph) & THE LEAFLESS TREE (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

THE LEAFLESS TREE

a co-worker and I
stand before our boss's desk:
has she called us to
her office to give us more work
or to ream us out for something

neither, it appears,
for she talks proudly of the leafless tree
on the wide window sill
behind her, all glossy light wood,
spare branches gracefully spreading,

her own large bare arms echoing the tree's
smoothness, color, and radiant strength

she swivels in her executive chair to show us
how she can bend the tree to her will,

swiftly pushing it down to the shadowy left,
but even as she rotates back to us it springs up,

filling the window again as if claiming
its right to stand tall in the light

[two tanka and four two-liners on a dream of 9-3-16. This is one of those multi-level dreams (as many are). And as I was writing about it, it made me cry, in both a happy and a sad way. Photomorph "Branching Out" (4-5-09 18374c) by Roswila]
