UNMAKING THE MOUNTAINS (photomorph) & IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

myth would have it that an ancient deity
uncreated, nay, call a spade a spade, destroyed
the universe that existed before this one,
with the blink of an eye;
how much more frangible then the cosmos
of the present moment -- this now -- as it
scintillates in human sight,
only to be unmade
on each blink

[non-dream free verse poem written 8-23-18. This is the sort of poem I sometimes write that I'm a bit uncomfortable with. Too much teaching going on. And not enough setting up of an experience for the reader to make her/his own decision(s) about, by bringing her/his own life to it. Ah well, it's all I have even near being ready for posting today and I do have to admit to a wee bit of pride in the metaphor I'm trying to get across. There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

PAINTING THE WIND (photomorph) & CIRCUS ACT, Or: Walking the Labyrinth at St. Mike's (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

CIRCUS ACT
(or: Walking the Labyrinth at St. Mike's)

this little thin skinned
bag of nothing but hot air,
this small empty paper bag bumps
and tumbles around the labyrinth of bread-
loaf sized stones at the wind's fancy; each
colorfully painted-over, sun-baked stone it
lands to rest against as the wind takes a
breather, offers a temporary harbor for its
jittery passage; I continue my own awkward
walk around the labyrinth trying to keep up
with the sack's acrobatics despite my hobbling
arthritic gait, even as I hope fervently that it
will land from one of its bursts of flight or
bumbling tumbles right at my feet, as I am as
taken with this empty container as with any
of the creatively painted rock-loafs I pass;
emptiness has always drawn me, promising a
home at last to the unwanted and the useless;
however, all I have with me today with which
to fill this vagabond bag is wholly insubstantial:
plaguing thoughts and emotions that all but
paralyze me within a morbid cloud of doubt
and threat; I do not think this small would-be
balloon, sometimes rolling, sometimes flying,
and at others, as still as a stone among stones,
could hold any more hot air than it already does;
I balance and stretch down and way over just in
time to decide the fate of this tattered circus act:
I dump it in the trash can -- at least its quiet and
final deflation has not gone unremarked

THE PATHS OF DISORDER (photomorph) & UNDERPINNINGS (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

UNDERPINNINGS

my red bra strap peeks out:
why so embarrassed when
underpinnings show
does a body have a shape
without its skeleton,
or a building
a form without its girders, or
a cosmos resist
entropy for even a second
sans the great mystery

[non-dream tanka pair mashed (:-D) together, written 8-1-18. Yeah, this might be a bit hyperbolic at the end, but, hey, overall, it was fun to write and think about. And given my life these days, every little bit of fun matters a whole lot more than usual. Hm, maybe that "great mystery" at the end is simply the humor of existence. Not a laughing at, so much as a laughing along with the ultimate absurdity of taking it -- and especially one's self -- so endlessly seriously. THE LONG WALK HOME (photo) & "where's your walker ..." (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

where's your walker,
I ask of the woman even
older than I am
she's unconcerned, and then I notice
she's hugely pregnant, her belly moving

omigosh! this nearly deaf, frail senior's
about to give birth on the sidewalk!

well, at least the woman's priorities are straight:
supported walking's the least of her concerns

[a tanka with two 2-liners on a dream of 8-17-18. And I think the basic point of this dream is exactly those last two lines. I'm still focusing on the least important issues in my life that need to be dealt with. BTW, I have a dream narrative on the back burner from 8-16-18, on this same issue. I'd been unclear about that narrative until the above dream and now I get it. It's going to take some re-writing before posting. And I just realized on typing these notes, that an even earlier non-dream poem I posted on 8-17-18, with a belly dancing image, can be read to refer to this same issue.
