LINES OF COMMUNICATION (photo) & FOGGY MORNING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

FOGGY MORNING

crows fly low as if to avoid
the heavy gray skies,
cawing after one another,
swooping from telephone wire
to building edge and back again,
their blackness crisp above
the definite edges of wires
and roof tops, a carnival
of clarity on this foggy morning
that invites the question
of the withholding rain

[non-dream free verse poem written 10-14-16. I'm still not sure this is finished (I've worked on it quite a lot since writing it over a month ago), but I have nothing else new to post. And as rain is predicted for later this afternoon it feels like an appropriate post. Photo "Lines of Communication" (10-30-16 018v2) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

TRYING TO FILL THE SKY (photo) & THAT UNFATHOMABLE HUNGER (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THAT UNFATHOMABLE HUNGER

as we stand on the long supermarket
check out line, we all pull a series
of ghostly ribbons out of our heart chakras,*
folding each pale strip carefully into glass
tubes we've been told to fill with
these no longer needed fillers

as I pull and fold I wonder why
these various lengths are called "fillers"
when a better term might be "place holders,"
waiting as they always have for the real
thing to come along, someday, somehow,
and take up residence in our hearts
with an enlightening burst,
satisfying that unfathomable
hunger we've born from birth

LONG STRANGE TRIP (photomorph) & THANKSGIVING DAY APPETIZERS (three non-dream scifaiku) by Roswila

THANKSGIVING DAY APPETIZERS

Zero-G surprise
sleeping kittens float by
the delighted child

one million dollars
in my checking acount?!
psychotic bank card

no, you cannot have
your body back
a trade, is a trade

[re-posting of some old scifaiku of mine, all written as much as maybe 15 years ago. All I have that's new are sad or complaining free verse poems, or other kinds that just aren't up to snuff yet. And I ran across these old scifaiku recently doing some filing of paper copies so thought I'd share their light-heartedness along with a HAPPY THANKSGIVING wish to all. WINTER MELT (photomorph) & "his affection..." (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

his affection:
as beautiful and passing
as the blue shadows of trees
on melting snow

THAR SHE BLOWS (photomorph) & EVEN DREAMS BETRAY (dream narrative) by Roswila

EVEN DREAMS BETRAY

Scene One:

he's in full work uniform and delighted
to see me: how handsome, I think,
just as he steps right up for a full on kiss,
something he's never done before,
in fact, I'd not even been sure
he really liked me at all; I feel such
a radiance around us it's as if the sun's
suddenly come out; but unclarity rapidly
returns, what is he truly after? he seems
so shy in a way, yet at the same time
intensely focused, though not on me

Scene Two:

he and a male side kick run into me,
they ask me to go out on the town with
them; I'm very happy to be invited to join
them and say I'll meet them at their car,
but they rush off before pointing it out
to me on the car-lined street and don't
slow down when I call after them; I'm so
disappointed, realizing that hobbling fast
to catch up with them will only hurt
my joints and that it's all just a big tease
anyway; like so many times before
I can tell my presence is not really wanted

Scene Three:

the noise is horrendous and frightening;
he's just about broken in through the thick
wooden front door when I'm able to slam
it on his knife wielding hand; as I lean
with all my might against the splintering door
I yell, again and again, for my roommate
to so something, that this man we both
liked is about to force his way in

Scene Four:

it's very suspicious that
I was able to tie him with the arms
of his coat as if in a straight jacket
to keep him from hurting me, after all,
he's trained in martial arts; then I realize
I'd better toss away all the stuff I'd been
fool enough to let him bring with him
as maybe he's got a bomb hidden in it;
I yell for my friend to do the tossing
while I stay straddled across his back
to hold him belly down on the floor,
the expression on his face when he lifts
his head around and up to look
at me is chilling, and I realize
he's the ticking bomb

[narrative on dreams of 11-21-16. The "he" character in each of these scenes was the same one. Not anyone I know but with aspects from actual men. I've chosen to call the separate dreams "scenes" because I have a feeling these were actually all part of one dream. Even though I recalled them as four distinct dreams. JUST PASSING THROUGH (#2) (photo) & ACCEPTING THE RADIANCE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

ACCEPTING THE RADIANCE

he slowly lowers his bone thin,
old body into the back seat of the car

as we all adjust our safety belts
I'm happy to see he's looking
a bit better, more healed in
some way, but still rather too frail

so when he comments as if it's nothing
at all that "oh, I finished installing
all the new windows before I
left the house..." I'm very surprised
and more than a bit concerned
and do not hesitate to say so

after all, there's no cure for what ails
him, only alleviation, and he could
have, maybe even did, make things
worse for himself ultimately
by such an extended exertion

in response to my burst of worry
a bright smile appears
on his pale, scruffy-bearded face
as he gently asserts "But the clarity
of light in the rooms now can't be beat,
like living on a sunny shoreline
where it's always early morning"

and I let go of any further worry,
gratefully accepting the radiance
of his fragile presence

THE HEART TAKES A DIVE (photomorph) & CAREFULLY APART (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

CAREFULLY APART

where's my heart going, I think,
as I see you turn a distant corner
holding a plain brown paper bag aloft
in your right hand as if it were alive
and kicking, and best kept at a distance

well, my heart's headed where it always
is these days: somewhere far away
as if in that paper bag you hold
so carefully apart from yourself
yet still do not let slip
from your grip
