MAY I GIVE YOU A HAND? (photo) & IT'S OK (two dream tanka) by Roswila

IT'S OK

he's scandalized by
the errors in her typing --
it's OK, I say,
I'd not expected perfection
and they can be corrected

adding softly,
sometimes it's more important
to accept a gift
of help just for friendship's sake:
it can be a gift in itself

[two tanka on a dream of 5-9-14. Well, I got told by myself, didn't I? A response in a way to that old expression "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Which I blush to admit I too often wish I had done. Photo "May I Give You A Hand?" (4-15-14 001v2) by Roswila]

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

MAKING A POINT (photo art) & THE MESSAGE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE MESSAGE

why's it always my fault
when I don't get a message?
are you even sure your office sent it?
did the P.O. deliver it elsewhere or lose it?
did someone steal it just for the fun
of f...ing with someone's head?

and those're only the first
of many disconnects I'm sure
I could imagine in this world
tangled in layer after layer
of communications
flying in cross currents
like swarms of bees

so, gimme me a break, already!

and now you say I'm to be summarily
deported to Australia because I didn't
respond to your message?
other than a pain in the butt to pack at once
how's that a negative consequence?

I've always wanted to go there

CAUGHT IN THE ACT (photo art) & ALLEY OF ROSES (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

ALLEY OF ROSES

the shining tow-headed brother
of their long ago shared youth,
struggles quickly free of kidnappers,
to run pell-mell down the sunny alley
lined on both sides with climbing roses

as she watches from the relative safety
of her dream observer stance, her heart lifts
in joy at his surprising escape,
his flight all the more impressive
as he has to avoid the grip
of the wildly growing roses

she turns briefly away from the thrilling
scene to comment on it to the shadowy
figures watching along with her,
as she wants to share the delight
of this rare winning run with others

when she looks back again ... oh no!
he's turned around, back toward
his captors' dark nest at the head
of the alley and now he's riding his bike

why ever would he do this?! even as she
thinks this he wobbles, getting caught
up in the heavily thorned roses
crowding the alley fence,
his struggle to get free hanging
him upside down and more firmly
entangling him

why did he choose to turn back,
and how could he forget that these
suffocatingly sweet, thick as thieves roses
also bear huge thorns

[free verse poem on a dream of 5-7-14. My immediate association to my brother hanging in the roses was to The Hanged Man of the Tarot (Rider/Waite/Smith version here):
I should point out that The Hanged Man in the Tarot is not a death card. For instance, here's two of the many comments I've made about this card on my Tarot blog: "Try suspending your own feelings/thoughts on this matter. It could make room for higher wisdom." And "You need to shake your viewpoint up. It is your perception that needs changing, not the situation." BTW, I'd been thinking yesterday about my brother and his death several months ago, wondering when he might show up again directly in a dream. (He's been implied in many dreams since his death, just not overtly present.) I'm also struck that there was a bicycle image in yesterday's posted dream/poem. My overall association to that dream was to The Wheel of Fortune in the Tarot. Using these two cards as a mini-reading (very simply put): I need to develop a new perspective on life's constant changes. Photo art "Caught in the Act" (4-15-14 003v6) by Roswila]

WHIRLIGIG (photo art) & THIS SPINNING OF THE WHEEL (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THIS SPINNING OF THE WHEEL

the wheels on the bike go 'round and 'round...
my long deceased mother and I, each a minuscule
figure clinging to the inside of the front wheel rim
in a different place, ride high... then low...
then high... as the bicycle rolls on...

ah well, another dream
spelling out the almost cliché
"what goes around comes around,"
but maybe this one dips a bit deeper

one might question, for instance,
who follows who in this scenario:
I could easily assume it's I trailing after
my deceased mother as she revolves
out of reach and unaware of me,
a resonating symbol
for how unwanted I feel,
have always felt

and there's another way to look at it,
a hot flush on my cheeks suggesting its truth:
how can I expect to really see, much less
deeply connect with any fellow traveler
when so totally focused on my own ride
on this spinning of the wheel

[free verse poem on a dream of 5-5-14. My immediate association on recalling this dream was to The Wheel of Fortune in The Tarot (Rider/Waite/Smith version):

IN THE FIRE'S WAKE (photo art) & THOUGH DECEASED (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THOUGH DECEASED

she's deceased these many years
and I'm accustomed to her
occasional visit in a dream
yet this one's surprising for look
how young, slim, and beautiful she is

heads turn in a whispering wake
as she sails through the huge party
thrown in her honor, nodding
to each person with a bright smile

I, too, am stunned by how gorgeous
she is, but more so by how totally
she ignores me, the one who took care
of her while she died, as if
I'm not even here

I quickly subsume my hurt to a wry
acceptance, after all what can I really
expect after a lifetime of seeing
needful things that others often
can't or won't, and of not being taken
seriously when I could use it most

before I can retreat to steep
in the sustaining cauldron
of my inner world, I see she's now
huddling next to me, silent and close,
hiding behind my considerable bulk
from the hubbub in the room

though deceased these many years,
she's still very much alive
and just as needful

[free verse poem on a dream of 5-3-14. This was mildly lucid in that I knew I was dreaming again about my deceased friend. It was dreamed the same night as the one posted about yesterday, "In the Dog House." "Though Deceased" was the first dream of the evening. Things only seemed to go further down hill after that. By the way the "she" in this dream was an actual friend that I did take care of as she died of cancer, decades back. I should also note that here she's symbolizing an aspect of current relationships I have (at least as I understand them), as well as of myself. SINK HOLE (photo art) & IN THE DOG HOUSE (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

IN THE DOG HOUSE

something wakes me suddenly --
as I roll over to get to my feet
I land instead on my back on the floor
with one of the several dogs living here
nudging me insistently

I'm too tired and sleepy to haul myself
back into bed so curl up with the dog
and its mate -- a lovely female
with pale silky hair -- the three of us
forming a tangled nest on my tufted
baby blue rug

as I'm falling back to sleep the female
whispers in my ear as if it were
a bedtime story by the brothers Grimm:
You do realize we sometimes leave
a leather strap on a home's doorknob
to let our hunters know a human
lives there for the taking, don't you?

wide awake I struggle free of the no
longer comfortable nest of long limbs,
claws and teeth, and race to the front
door: a whippet thin golden collie
poses there pointing to the ajar door
with its open latch as if it were a quail

I rapidly shut and re-latch the portal
wondering if this stretched
collie was really warning me
the front door was open,
or had I simply caught it in the act
of unlocking and it was covering
its butt (so to speak)

then there's a clamor out in the hall,
muffled as quickly as it rises: what
can possibly be going on out there
at this pre-dawn hour? and what's
that minuscule scratching and bumping
now against my door?

on high alert, I hold my breath, a determined
if very sad guard against two worlds:
the unknown outside and the untrusted within
