SET ME FREE (photomorph) & WILL ANY MAN (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

WILL ANY MAN

will any man ever see through
my disguise of old age and infirmities
to the ageless, passionate woman within

the way I see right through your
layering of masks to the inner man
whose radiance could melt rock

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

RAUCOUS ROOST (photomorph) & GOBBLERS ALL (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

GOBBLERS ALL

these turkeys! these damnable
constantly gobbling and pooping turkeys!

they've taken up permanent residence
in my rafters, raining down their endless
noise and effluvium

and I can't chase them out with my own loud
and repeated "Shut the F--k Up!"
or "Go the Hell Away!"

even flinging my arms around like a manic
windmill does no good, these squatting birds
are unflappable, focused only on what comes
out of their beaks and bums

and they can't even be tempted to thump down
to follow the trail of sweet corn I lay out ever so
precisely to strand them deep in the back woods
where I can neither see nor hear nor
smell them

I'm becoming desperate enough to burn down
my own barn around me just to have peace,
to make an end to all this noise and stink
suffocating me day after day, hour after hour,
minute after minute,

this Greek chorus that would be quite comic
if it weren't driving me crazier
than I already am

SHADOW WALK (photo) & A CLOSER WALK (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

A CLOSER WALK

arms around each other's waists
we step onto the outdoor path
and pause briefly, looking toward
the sun bright horizon

that's a more complicated move
than one might imagine
as we both have physical
infirmities that make any leaning
on the other a challenge

but we hold each other's bodies
in warm, firm grasps, wanting
to give this close walk together
a chance to go someplace new

we'll find a way to match
our steps, our heartbeats
have already synchronized

INTERPLAITING (photomorph) & TENDER SCULPTING (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

TENDER SCULPTING

if my fingers and the palms
of my hands could
they'd be leaping with joy,
as it is they tingle and pulse gently
as if my heart has left its place
within my breast to caress
your dark hair this way,
the shape of your skull
steady beneath my stroking,
but your hair,
how profoundly intimate
to feel it's wandering
independent strands almost anticipating
my touch, lying down over and over,
allowing for this tender sculpting
of an opening onto love

HOMEWARD BOUND (photo) & ON MYTHS & MOURNING (non-dream free verse poem) by Roswila

ON MYTHS & MOURNING

good-bye yellow brick road:
there's no Oz (wizard or place),
no wise Scarecrow,
no loving Tin Man,
no courageous Lion

and after all the dust and fury of that sudden
tornado, after missing that practical balloon
ride back, and not even after putting faith in
(of all things!) a pair of magic shoes,
there certainly isn't any ordinary Kansas
to go to home to, either

just this wasteland of mourning, spreading
as far as the eye can see and distressed heart
can reach, nothing but this endless grieving
for what never even had a chance to be,
never lifted an open face to the light
like a pale green shoot unfurling
toward the sun as earth crumbled
away from its rise

this necessary grieving of a life time
of what never was, what never grew,
disrupted by a desire for another massive
tornado to sweep in and maybe, just maybe,
this time toss up a truly magical pair
of ruby slippers for that journey
to the profoundly compelling,
mythic place called home

LIVING ROOM (photomorph) & "blossom season past..." (non-dream haiku) by Roswila

blossom season past
I rest on my walker's seat
jacaranda shade

[haiku written 9-28-16. I pass the jacaranda mentioned in the haiku on my walks to the ocean, sometimes taking pix of it and resting in its shade. Today it had been trimmed a bit and I picked up a small bit of leafy branch from the bright green grass below it. The branch now sits on my living room shelf in some water; maybe it will last a little while, sharing its lovely fern-like patterns. Photomorph "Living Room" (9-21-16 014v2b) by Roswila]

BASKING (photo) & ONE KITCHEN/TWO DIFFERENT "I Love You's" (mixed format dream poem) by Roswila

ONE KITCHEN/TWO DIFFERENT "I Love You's"

Dream One

it's house cleaning day
and I make a mild effort at
some kitchen clean up,
chatting with my adopted mother
while I sponge lazily at the fridge

as usual, she gives me more credit for my work
than I actually deserve and I don't correct her,

as it feels too good to stand in the sun
of her approval, and then she simply says:

"I love you," for no reason that I can discern
or would believe if I could

Dream Two

Johnny's* my lover
and I again wonder why I
keep sleeping with him,
as he's not monogamous and said
to have an abusive streak

but as the old song
"What's the Use of Won'drin'?"** plays
on the radio,
I go on with our talk, he hovering closely
behind me, looking over my shoulder

he comments that this kitchen may get crowded soon
since he's invited another woman friend to use it

she needs the utensils and space to core and pack fruit...
all this breathed hotly into my ear as I wash dishes

and when he adds "I love you ... and you know you love me"
I have to admit to myself that I'm nourished by this knowing
