AUTUMN HANGS ON (photo) & THE JENGA GAME (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

THE JENGA GAME

it's collapsed before, and here
you and I are restacking everything
yet another time as if playing a Jenga* game;
the crowning block this time, however,
stays put as do all the others on which it stands;
each block's solid, not about to fall; there's not even
a quiver as each piece locks into place at once
with a tiny wooden click, establishing a tower
of words that for once you quickly take seriously;
it's just too bad that their meaning is "GAME OVER"

I sigh and recall that like a couple of third rate
comedians, our timing's always been rotten

[free verse poem on a dream of 10-21-16. * Jenga game. Also, I'd worked on this dream poem before sleep last night. And although I don't recall any dream that was particularly relevant to this one, I did wake up singing Fleetwood Mac's song "Go Your Own Way". Photo "Autumn Hangs On" (10-20-16 002v3) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
