THE CALL OF A NEW LIFE (photomorph) & ANOTHER WOBBLY START (dream narrative) by Roswila
ANOTHER WOBBLY START
my long time friend hurries ahead
of me as we struggle ashore
out of the deep sea
to return to our old city haunts
from yet another new home
that did not work out
as we sling our shopping bags
of stuff onto the beach
I wonder how many folk
who arrive here are fresh
from failed life transformations
we decide to take the chance
and head to an old abandoned
wood-framed house that homeless
crash in, now that the druggies
have been evicted it should be
at least relatively safe for us,
if not for our stuff which will be
prime targets for thievery
it's a no-brainer then that we'll
haul all our stuff with us
whenever we leave this old squat's
living room, which we have laid
claim to as our temporary haunt
I stand by the broken windows
that happily let in the sweet sea air,
trying to choose what to wear
to dinner at the run-down diner
it won't be good to look homeless
or I'll be rejected at any restaurant,
but I also don't want to appear
too well off either, as that will attract
too much interest from thieves
I'm simply not certain what's fitting
to this wobbly start on
another new life, just emerged
from the deep sea but not really
on firm safe ground
especially without my land legs
under me yet, though to be honest
I'm not sure I want to give up
my long scintillating tail,
even if that's what it takes
to make a fresh start
in this dark hard world
["poetically licensed" narrative on a dream of 8-11-15. "Poetically licensed" -- a reference to my writing of images into the dream narrative that were only implicit. In this case, the ending mermaid image was not present but is certainly fitting to what I felt in the dream. Of course, having written in an image makes me want to term this piece a dream poem. Argh! Best not to get off on that discussion again. Some of my dream writing just doesn't really fit into any particular category (at least that I can discern). There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.
