PASTORALE (photomorph) & POSTER CHILDREN (free verse dream poem) by Roswila

POSTER CHILDREN

The End

the gabled house sprawls, its hallways
going on forever, an echoing
abandoned Victorian mansion,
a voice-over saying in no particular tone
as if it's so true as to need no emphasis:
"... and here's where belief is built
and changed and changed again,
in the rambling corridors of time."

Old Age

the old woman's youthful ballet
partner holds her close to his chest
while they rest on the rehearsal hall floor,
his breath warm against her ear
as he whispers while she cries in pain,
"... there's still a body, as long
as there's a body there will be
pain, keep dancing with me
and there will be no body."

Youth

he proudly shows off his cattle ranch,
a lush green, rolling expanse
on one side of the long road
punctuated by trees on the horizon,
both cows and horses moving purposefully
as if they're pieces on a chess board

the centerpiece of this pastoral scene:
a large golden palomino, its fetlocks,
mane, and tail so long and flowing
they look as if they're continually
melting and reforming
in the furnace of sunlight

The Beginning

they're each to design a series
of living posters that aims to express
one supportive way of understanding
they've found on their individual journeys
to this present place

she finishes hers with less fuss than she
usually brings to an assignment,
and lines them up neatly along one
expanse of floor edge awaiting
proper hanging in the massive
white walled gallery

she's still a bit unsure if the choice
of an abstract mode was the best
for her purposes, but finds herself
far more interested in, even a bit
excited by, the prospect of seeing
what others have drawn out
from their own unique journeys

[free verse poem on a dream of 8-3-15. This was actually dreamed in the reverse order from what appears above (which to some degree explains why it starts at the end and winds up at the beginning). But as I recalled this novella length dream to make notes, it came to me in this above "backwards" order. And it seems to work better this way. I could theorize why, but would have to go on at length about an additional level to this dream (about time) and this is already a very long post. BTW, the quoted words in the first and second stanzas are verbatim from the dream. Photomorph "Pastorale" (8-25-13 015v12) by Roswila]

PLEASE NOTE: in most browsers you can click on the above image for a larger version. Also, the photo accompanying a post is not necessarily meant to illustrate it, but to reflect some small, even slant aspect of the verse, similar to Japanese haiga (illustrated haiku).

There are many other sorts of posts on this blog. I indicate which are about or influenced by dreams. Some non dream focused posts are book reviews, "regular" poems (some by other writers, as the above is), scifaiku, writing exercises, Tarot haiku, photos, haiga, and so on. However, most of those are in much older posts. There's a listing by month going back to early 2006, at the end of the sidebar.

until next time, keep dreaming,
