GRANT PARK, CHICAGO, NOVEMBER 4, 2008, poem by Ginny Wells
GRANT PARK, CHICAGO , NOVEMBER 4, 2008
Wave on wave they come--
Those who answered the call,
Rang doorbells,
Gave money,
Gathered the dreamers
From all points,
Organized,
Made videos,
Sent emails,
Until it seems
Victory is assured
For their candidate--
They fill the park
To overflowing,
Watching giant televisions
For latest numbers,
Standing for hours
Without complaint,
A sea of beatific smiles.
One state following another
Going their way.
Happiness grows
Until finally there are enough
Votes to claim Obama
The Next President of the United States !
Their work has transformed
A dream into actuality.
Their faith has made manifest
All their hopes.
Now the man himself appears
To the sounds of cheers
Unfurling like a flag in the breeze.
Smiling, waving, strong,
He expresses gratefulness
To all who have made this possible
Then speaks of the tasks ahead
And the crowd is hushed.
Around the president-elect
In the misty light
An aura of another man
Appears.
Tall, bearded, brooding,
Smiling.
This poem is by Virginia Wells, whose poetry I've posted here before:
The Glass Screen, & Aphrodite
Jim -- Last Spring, & Beginnings
I had intended to post the above Obama poem sooner, but life has a way of intefering while we're making other plans. :-) But I don't think there's any danger that the amazement of this election will wear off anytime soon. And isn't that ending image simply wonderful!
‘til next time, keep dreaming,

It still makes me smile! Your blog is always a source of good things!
Hi again Tumblewords,
I'm delighted you enjoyed your visit!
Fortunately, I still find blogging a fun pursuit. Just wish I had more time for it. Now that I'm involved with a wonderful man he's managed to take up a good deal of time that used to go to other things. I'm not complaining, of course. :-) Just a bit amazed to be like a teenager when I'm turning 65. LOL!
