OF BEAMS & COMING CLEAN, dreamku series with interpretation by Patricia Kelly

OF BEAMS & COMING CLEAN

I search for a quote
to explore in my next post
paperback bible

she plants my sprouted
wood beam in her dark cauldron
sunny corner

empty soap bottle
there's enough residue
to wash clean with

Above drawing by Roswila, late 1980's.

When I woke this morning and drafted these three dreamku on one dream, I was immediately struck by how the word "post" when taken as an object means pretty much the same as the word "beam" in the second dreamku. Then I was struck by the relationship of "search" in the first and "sunny" in the second to eyes, and immediately associated "beam" to the following bible quote -- which of course, took me right back to the search in the first dreamku:

“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? / Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? / Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”

LOL! That dream was going to get me to listen, one way or the other, wasn't it? I've been having more than my usual difficulties with understanding relationships, i.e. being even more p.o.'d with other people than with myself. This dream suggests that maybe I'd better focus on what I'm doing/not doing with respect to relationships. I mean, that beam has been in my "eye" long enough to sprout, for crying out loud!

I really like that the planting was in a sunny corner -- i.e, in the light, where it can be seen, where it won't be ignored. And that dark cauldron? I'd say this particular "beam" in my own eye is deeply rooted in unconscious material. And that it grows? It had some lovely vines growing off it -- this entire process will have some healthful fruits to it.

It's tempting to say that the first dreamku/dream image was predictive. As I did just that after writing the dreamku, i.e. searched the bible (online) for the "beam in your own eye" quote to go up in this blog post with the dreamku. However, one could just as well claim -- and this is more likely -- that it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. If so, this is a positive example of how that sort of "prophecy" can work with dreams.

Lastly, I'd like to say the above process I went through demonstrates how writing dreamku on our night dreams can be be a quick way to the heart of a dream for experienced dream workers. (I will expand on this in a future post, but I think largely because of the associative/condensing process one uses in choosing just the "right" words for the dreamku, or for that matter, any poem -- dream-based or not.) I could have gone the other route and done lengthy journalling on this dream. I am quite sure I would have arrived at considerable insight that way, but it would also have involved a couple of hours of work and possibly additional consultation with The Tarot. The dreamku didn't take half an hour, all told. And I have the three dreamku, to boot!

‘til next time, keep dreaming,
